      A repointing tool is the single best investment a steel tip darter can own! It will open up so many possibilities. Experiment with super cheap black Designa points at different lengths. You won’t be sorry!

    Price uses 35mm black points
    Peter Wright's 5groove grip points that he uses on his gold darts are the Unicorn 35mm points. But recently had the new Red Dragon specialty points which are 33mm sticking out.
    Both Danny Noppert and Johnny Clayton use the Winmau 41mm groove points.
    Cross used to use 41mm Quartz points but he is back to the gold Storm Surge points which are 30mm.
    But yea, you are absolutely right - more and more players using longer points these days.
    Experimenting with different points is probably the most satisfying thing about darts for me :D It is amazing how big of a difference a few millimetres can make.

    I started changing my own points a few years ago, and found 38 to be the length I always go to, but I never tried the sandpaper trick. I always bought the Harrows laser etched silver points that stick in the board like crazy. Buying a reg set of points and using the sandpaper would save lots of cash. The price difference between a plain point (less than a dollar), and a special point ($5 plus) is huge.

    • @WorldwideDarts
      @WorldwideDarts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, a small piece of sandpaper and silver points works perfectly. It's a bit surprising how well they stick in the board to be honest. The effect sort of wears off quick though. If someone is playing a lot they will probably have to scuff the points almost every day.

    All I can say is thank you. I had purchased a set of points here in the states a few years back. After watching your video I checked out darts corner and ordered replacements. I didn't know how much of the point went inside the dart and I had a stubby set of points. Once again you have come to the rescue. I may try longer points on my next order. Thank you again WW.

    Great job WW!! I always check total weight now after joining a soft tip league (20g max). But even steel tip darts, you add a long point, thick flights, protectors and Ti stems. A dart can go up 4 grams after barrel weight with just a couple modifications. I aways take this into consideration when making a purchase. Maybe just a video on how much weight could one add to one's own setup. Thank you for your hard work and great information.

      I have 26mm Target Storm points on my match darts. When I throw a dart the point sticks right into the side of my ring finger. Longer points mess me up... unless I throw something silly like a 66mm point. Then I just hold onto part of the point as I would a barrel

    I enjoyed this video. Ever since I became a subscriber and watched my first Frankenstein darts video, I had to make my own set. I got the Designa repointing tool and built 4 sets of Frankenstein Darts. I was never a huge fan of the 66mm points being silver. I started searching around for the longest Black Points I could find. I ended up finding some on Amazon USA that I think were 50mm+. I put those into 2 different dart barrels and love them! Perfect grip into the board. I did however also use Trident ONE80 Nose Cones on them. Really saves on flight damage.

    Great video. Even though what you said is true, I still feel like points are somewhat underrated in darts. Like a lot of people just buy the darts and play with the stocked points that they come with. Even a small change in points can make a huge diference and I feel like too many players still aren't aware of that. My personal favourite are the target diamond ones, but I also love the microgrip points that the clemens gen One's come with

    Currently using 38mm (35 out the barrel) on my Aspinall darts, going very well and you’re right the way darts is going more and more people will be using longer points, especially as the new Winmau boards are quite softer so in theory points should bury deeper

    • @WorldwideDarts
      @WorldwideDarts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you watch and of the WDF al this past week? I was a bit surprised at how many players had their darts sink all the way into the board. The points were completely buried and sometimes it looked like the barrel was touching the sisal. As much as I love Winmau boards the Blade 6 boards are WAY WAY too soft. It's hard for me to say personally. I'm able to throw just about anything with equal consistency. Look at the intro for example. The first 3 darts were 20 grams with 32mm points. Then the second throw was with 11.6 gram darts with 66mm points. I don't notice any difference at all with balance or center of gravity, etc... and I still hit what I was looking at.
      But yes, changing things like points, or longer stems, different sized flights will make a difference. A player just has to figure out if that change is good or bad.

      There usually isn't. For the most part everything is standard across the board. However with some darts, like Cosmo for example, the point hold will be ever so slightly different and repointing is a pain in the butt. A dab (seriously one drop) will work wonders if the point is too loose

      I won a few state championships in both steel and soft tip. I won a bunch of different events at a Bullshooter I went to years ago. Singles, doubles and mixed trips. Also placed well in other steel tip events but my passion isn't playing darts. I don't really enjoy it to be honest. I'm an outdoors type of person. The idea of being cramped up in a hotel room playing darts is the LAST thing I'd want to do.
