    Alot of people talking only about Nick Nurse, even though he deserves it, but goddamn these players do not quit. Everyone on the Raptors is giving it there all even while being down 30 in the 4th. You gotta respect that. This team has players that do not quit on defense. They are built for it.

      I think part of it is ego. Believing that NBA teams are "too good" for such "simple" strategies. Which is true if the opponent is ready for those "simple" strategies, but NBA teams apparently aren't always ready for these strategies exactly because they expect their opponents not to use these strategies. It's a funny meta-strategic situation.

    • @Keithhaskins
      @Keithhaskins 4 ปีที่แล้ว +98

      its pretty tiring to do it consistently , and you'd think the other team would eventually call a time out and be able to draw up a counter but the raptors bench is hungry to prove themselves and rick misplayed poorly which is why it worked out so well

    • @earllewis656
      @earllewis656 4 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      I think teams should use it more....not to say you have to make it a staple of your defenss like high schools do...But...once in awhile throw a trap out there...just to see if you can catch the team sleeping or unprepared....if they score they score... But giving an of offense a different look at least disrupts the offense.....if you want proof this works.....2004 Nba finals...Lakers vs Pistons...they pressed our guards heavily..by the time we got into our offense.....we were against the clock... Great video coach.....id love to see you do breakdowns on more press and zone defense. They dont get the respect they deserve and truly should as they are basketball staples

      Shayne Silva Looks like they’re hovering around that 3-6 seed. Teams in those range they will most likely face are indiana, miami, or philly. I feel the only way they’re hitting 2nd round is if they face miami (who’s my sleeper team in the playoffs and can really upset) or indiana. Second round I say they take milwaukee to 6 considering they matchup well against giannis’s squad. Or if they play boston that can be a 6 or 7 but either one I just don’t see toronto finishing those squads. ECF is a MAYBE but I highly doubt it with philly, milwaukee, and boston being heavy threats for the ecf. Like I said, in those higher rounds, comes down to pure star power. You can pull off upsets with those squads but someone’s gonna have to consistently takeover when needed. Siakam isn’t that guy to me YET. We’ll see. Full court presses are very effective and should be run a lot more frequently. That being said, one of the biggest reasons NBA coaches don't use it every game is because it's strenuous to the players' stamina. Full court pressing every time the ball is in the opponent's possession will lead to teams tiring out a lot more quickly, it takes a lot more effort and can lead to a lot more fatigue. Props to nurse for trying it out tho, and the raptors definitely played with a lot of heart, managing to give it their all defensively while still managing to be an unstoppable force on offense. Can't imagine a team like the rockets ever full court pressing, especially in the offence oriented playing styles of the league today. They'd rather conserve the energy for offense.

      Yes, SihYuan. I remember running these in HS basketball and fatigue is definitely an issue. Nurse was running 4 guys eager to prove themselves and who have seen limited minutes this year. That's why it worked, ultimately.

    • @harveyscottz
      @harveyscottz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well everybody knows that its strenuous to do full press. But if you're going to compare a high school bball player to a professional bball player, then I expect that it would work much better in the NBA considering how conditioned their body is. I only find it dumb to people who are so called "experts" saying it's tiresome to do it, yet after witnessing this worked, everyone is dumbfounded.

    One of the most embarrassing loses in NBA history. Kudos to Raptors for execution, but there's no way an NBA team should lose 30 point lead in ~14 minutes. This was collapse of the highest order both from the players and from Rick, who put KP back in the game only when lead was cut down to single digits and Brunson should have been replaced by JJ in the 4th - Brunson is absolutely terrible in the clutch time, one of the least clutch players I have ever seen - just panic, mistakes and tunnel vision.

      @@pepinoawesome7775 Sure, Warriors loss to Clippers was also embarrassing and crazy, but Mavs lost their 30 point deficit much, much quicker than GSW. For Raptors it took only 9 minutes and 53 seconds to tie the game from 30 points down. Let that sink in - 9 minutes and 30 seconds. It took Clippers 18 minutes and 21 seconds to tie the game from 30 points down - so pretty much twice as much time. So, yeah, in a way both games are very comparable, but Mavs collapse also took it to the next level - I don't think there exists another game in NBA history where 30 point lead has been lost in less than 10 minutes.

      its because if you man press, its easy to beat ur man if u have the whole court to dribble even with only 8 seconds. if you traps/zone press, all you need to do is have the awareness to find the open man because to trap, theres 2 guys on 1 guy and teams expect nba players to find the pass easily. also, its easy to call a timeout and draw up a simple press break. reason why this one worked is the mavs got lazy because they were up alot. and coach carlisle did a bad job here. also, mavs really lost their will and energy when their huge lead was taken away which is understandable. this was the perfect scenario in which the trap played out. but i do agree that traps should be used occasionally but for the most part, half court man is what i'd go with.

We were told point blank our coaches strategies were great and would translate but most people prefer to see offense over defense. This was told to us by a high level NBA player who attended the tourney. Coaches are important and very useful if the team buys in and the plays drawn up are good in that situation!?!?!?!
