You have lived in Thailand for a while. Rule # 1 in Thailand is to never ever wade through standing water. Getting your feet or any body part wet in the infected water: e.coli, and all kinds of crazy bacteria. You said, “ you don’t have any open wounds “. That’s all it takes is a tiny scratch. Rubber boots are available anywhere in the old city for the high price of @ 50 baht:). My advice would be to purchase some ASAP.

Did that once, never again. Solid advice, bro.

You nailed it. It is sad to see so many Thai parents allowing their kids to play in the filthy water. 3rd world mentality.

Today, where it's still flooded near the river, the water hasn't drained.
The problem with the flooded roads after dark is you can't see how deep it is by other vehicles.

That's not too bad. Rising water is manageable, the river's main stream hasn't taken a short cut through the city...(yet?)
There's a lesson and practice here for foreign punters buying or leasing property, one that I've learnt and adopted, and that is to always check properties during the rainy season. Riverside property is untitled for a reason. Cities are where they are for a reason too.
Dirty water? Not too bad, it's not black or stagnant, just muddy. The contents of all the septic tanks have been flushed away downstream and diluted by now and the bulk of the new water comes from upstream.
Just shower when you get home and pack any skin cuts with tobacco.

if the water is only ankle high you can drive a motorbike. The flooding is mainly only happening near the river. It's not like the what happened in Chiang Rai. We will be ok.

Most residents say the 2005 and 2011 floods were the worst based on the extent of the flood’s damage and the height of the water.

Hard to watch my favorite city in the world partially under water. This does happen every year correct? How much worse is it this year than normal? Thanks!
