Lifesaver. I just came back from my garage to figure this out. I managed to get the bolts easily, figured out the gas cap and I knew there was ONE more thing. I was convinced it was a secret bolt.
Mine is a Black Eagle lawn mower. I removed the 2 nuts and fuel cap. I have to lift the back of it enough to lift it over the 2 screw threads but it still won't come off. Thinking about my slege hammer for second go??
Wouldn’t work on my Troy Bilt 330 until I found a soft spot on the paper label. I punched a hole in the label to reveal a square hole. Use a screwdriver in the hole to release the hook!
Was just gifted a mower with this engine that’s in rough shape. I’m having trouble getting the screws off for the engine cover. I think due to all the dirt / debris over the years. Any tips?
Try prying up the sticker plate. I have a craftsman and this worked for me… someone above posted about the little hole under the sticker to release that stupid hook.
It is pretty difficult but you have to lift off the top cover to get to the back screw. On the very front at the bottom you have to pull out the cover. When you get them out there are 2 more about half way back. Just pull up with a little force and they will pop out. On the back at the bottom you will see 2 slots. Use a small screwdriver to help release those tabs. A pain in the ass. Take the cover off and holy cow there is the third screw lol. Good luck
Take off the sticker plate on the very top. 2 snaps on the front 2 more half way back and 2 more in the back. Pain in the ass. Oh, the screw is underneath. Good luck

Thanks, Man! I feel kind of stupid, but I'm told humility is a virtue. Thanks again!
Right! Thanks for watching.
Under the sticker in the front of my cover was a small access hole that allowed me to unclip it by pushing the clip back
I can't thank you enough for this video. Perfect name for the "hook". Have a blessed year.
This guy knows about small engines for sure.
Just saved me a ton of frustration!!!! Thank you

Just make sure you're using T25 torx bit, thanks for watching.
Thank you so much!
No problem Peter is can be kinda of a pain to get off
Pull cord not engaging could be due to stick and grass keeping from engaging
Omg hehe this made me laugh so hard but yes you're right, that hook ruined my life for 10 mins 😅
What kind of bolts are they? Can’t see and rusted. Not sure how to remove the lid because of how bad they are. Any tips before I saw it off lol
T25 or T20
@@dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982 thanks
Thanks, I was about to just rip it off. Now, any idea how to start the "quick start" engine? 😁
Right!!!! Thanks for watching Scott.

Doesn't work man. I removed the 2 screws holding cover down and the front of the covers comes off but not the back. I have a Murray 450E...
Same here I am about to smash this mower into tiny pieces

It’s 2 bolts
@@dadsworkshopbykipplabrie7982 2 bolts and a hidden clip. The clip is not mentioned anywhere but here
I'm a woman. I try to lift up & back but it doesn't unhook. The back end is firmly in place.
Yeah I have the same problem. Tomorrow I try to figure it out. if I do I will let you know
