Episode 123 of Love At First Scent
This was a TH-cam Live broadcast streamed on Saturday 19th September 2020. Unscripted. Unedited. Unrehearsed.
In this episode, I covered the new Serge Lutens Fils De Joie composed by Christopher Sheldrake.
    Introduction 00:00
Serge Lutens Fils De Joie 1:45
This was the second of four videos broadcast on the same day. The others were:

Le Labo Citron 28 • Le Labo Citron 28 city...
Guerlain Iris Torrefie • Guerlain Iris Torrefie...

    Here's the blotter update:
    - Well, well, well. Could this be the best Lutens we've had for years? As the scent develops, the jasmine becomes larger and more prominent, without losing that clovey, peppery, nutmegy facet that I talk about in the video. It continues to remind me of Tauer Le Maroc Pour Elle, in the best possible way, except that this one is probably a touch sweeter and not quite as rough around the edges. Definitely need to revisit it very soon.

I was looking for a realistic Jasmin for a long while and this was THE realistic indolic (night blooming) Jasmin. My spanish husband who loves real Jasmin, loves this!

    About the name:
In a recent interview with Nez - La Revue Olfactive magazine, Serge Lutens revealed he was born out of adultery. He never knew who his father was. He also explains that, since a while now, when choosing the name for his fragrances he likes to incorporate something about himself. So one might interpret "Fils de Joie" as "Son of Joy". That he, Serge Lutens, is the son born out an act of pure, ecstatic joy.
No prostitutes or b*tches what so ever involved in this story. "Uncle" Serge is a literature lover and is very clever with words. Being a bit naughty, he also likes to play with our minds.

I never recognized jasmin notes in perfume as jasmin until this one, it smelled exactly like the jasmine we had in the small garden of my childhoods house in Morocco, which was called in our dialect mesk lil or night musk because it opened at night and strongly perfumed the open space around it, you really didn’t have to get close to the flower to actually smell it, the moment I sprayed this in the store it was a huge nostalgic and familiar punch to my nose I got it instantly and kept sniffing it until I fell asleep, my first serge lutens really hit home :)

This is the description from the serge lutens french website :o Turns out its really mesk ellil (Cestrum nocturnum) and not jasmin (jasminum)

It’s the most beautiful interpretation of night blooming jasmine if you're familiar with this flowers. It’s not a soliflore, an interpretation of night blooming jasmine in a deep mysterious way. It renders a very realistic aroma of this particular flower wrapped in honey.
I think it’s a very alluring offering, a scent for a muse who allures the creator into sleepless nights!

Sprayed a whole row of Lutens today in Sephora and I'm wowed. I've never connected to a brand this way before. "Fils" was one of my favorites. Wonder when will be the next time I buy something other than Lutens because I want so much from him ♥️His scents have the exact masculine edge that I'm missing in most feminine scents, they're hot and cold at once.

I asked whether you had tried this last week, and now we get your review. Your timing is impeccable! Fils sounds exciting. Do you get any overt muskiness?
Regardless, let's hope that uncle Serge is moving back towards the daring gothic opulence that marked his earlier releases

i wasn’t aware the live was happening ! the name raised my eyebrows because fille de joie means prostitute (lady of pleasure) which was also mentioned later in this episode by a couple of your live viewers. i’m guessing it’s possibly inspired by what SL encounters in his daily life (hammams & all)... intriguing notes though, very promising !

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Thanks very much for watching. I think the answer to your question totally depends on the cultural standpoint from which it's being asked. Speaking very generally, by western European tastes, yes, perhaps this tends towards the 'feminine'.
