    Fuzz Face is the greatest effect ever made. All you need is a good fuzz face, a good tube amp, and know how to use your volume knob.

      Absolutely agree!! It does so much from offering a unique clean-ish colored boost all the way to the beautiful bloom effect that plumes in a extremely pleasant way! Don't forget to try rolling the tone off on the bridge pickup while using your fuzz in an overdrive fashion to achieve the "woman tone" which was technique used by Clapton

    Important note: NOT ALL FUZZ will clean up with the volume! Really, the Fuzzface is the KING! Though the Zonk Machine is SICK!
    This is exactly how I’m (trying to play) playing my rig. King Tone Mini Fuzz Ge is the hub. I had to add a push/pull treble bleed because the clean tone had too much treble?
    Your setting up your fuzz tone up, post was really helpful. What amp, and how it’s set up is also very important.
    Not easy, very satisfying, hard to master

  • @AndreaAustoni

    Great point about cranking the Volume knob on the Fuzz Face if you want sparkly cleans. And don't be afraid of turning the Fuzz knob down. Depending on how much gain the transistors have to begin with, they might never clean up otherwise. The third component is playing into a slightly dirty and compressed tube amp. You need the compression to limit the volume drop when you roll back the volume on the guitar.
    The above works with every fuzz face, no need to go boutique with rare transistors. I'm using the stock large Germanium Fuzz Face by Dunlop and with the guitar volume at 7 I have sparkly cleans for surf, at 8 it's dirty, at 9 it's overdriven and at 10 it's fat fuzz with sustain.

    I had a treble bleed on my Strat for a while and it was giving too bright of a tone when rolling back with my joe bonamassa ff. When I upgraded pickups I removed the treble bleed and went to 50s Gibson style output wiring for a faster cleanup. Now it gives clean glassy tone just turning down between 8 and 9. Really versatile. Great video. Keep up the good work.

    I find fuzz is one of the hardest pedals to dial in. If you get a chance sometime show us how you dial in your guitar/amp/fuzz settings for the iconic sounds like voodoo chile sr etc. Thanks man!
    P.S. Just some thoughts on treble bleed. One way to look at a vintage circuit is as a treble boost: for amps (bass circuits) as they are pushed they get muddy and and flabby, if you don't have a treble bleed then when you roll up you are giving a treble "boost" to help counter act that..... Just another way to look at it. Your tone sounds great though....

    • @AndreaAustoni
      @AndreaAustoni 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The way I set up my rig is I set my amp to a light breakup with the guitar's volume at 10. The Volume knob on the Fuzz Face is at 90% (to get rid of the excessive hiss), which puts me above unity. This way I'm slamming the amp, overdriving it and compressing it more. I set the Fuzz knob at 75%, enough gain to give me fat sustain with the guitar volume at 10, sparkly cleans at 7 and every level of dirt in between. It's important that the amp be compressed so you don't lose too much level when you roll back the volume knob on the guitar.

      @@theriffwniksevigny5473 look forward to it mate. It's interesting how certain pedals work differently with fender amps as opposed to marshall amps. All those little nuances are so interesting especially when you can really turn the amps up

    Is the mini Dunlop Hendrix fuzz good?

    IMPORTANT INFO FOR NOVICES: the fuzz face is one of the worst rabbit holes in the guitar universe. You might go through ten before you find a good one, and many more before you find a GOLDEN one like Jimi/Stevie/Doyle/Sayce. Jimi's custom was to buy every fuzz face at Manny’s and have them delivered to his studio. He’d record them, keep any good ones and give the rest away. Jimi tested countless fuzzes so don’t think you guys can just buy a pedal online and get that sound. The guys that own incredible sounding fuzzes have gone through dozens, believe me.

      @@Shadow__Banned I didn't say impossible, I said good ones are rare, great ones are extremely rare. Either you got lucky as hell, or you don't know what a FF is supposed to sound like.
