I like Eb and Ab.

They all sound really nice. Depends on the mood you're creating. I like warm but the A is smooth and lite
Yeah, agreed! Ab sounds really dark to me, but A has a bounce.
I think i preferred A followed by Eb. A just had a sparkle to it. Eb was warm and rich so it probably would depend on my mood at the time.of listening.
I love the way Eb sounds with PJ Morton, but I think for solo sax A gives it the feel that it needs.
E flat is very smooth and A flat is preferred.

its not about the key, but about what octave you're playing. you'll get the same kinda vibe with A or C scale with a lower octave.
Yeah, the octave does also make a big difference; the reason I was playing this tune in different keys is because it has a large range, so the original key takes my up into the palm keys, so along with the actual sound, it's also about getting the melody to fit the range.
I don't know, that Eb just has more soul

I think it's really a result of the range and tonal qualities of the instrument being played, not some inherent theoretical concept
Hearing how A sounded so well, I’m surprised how different Ab sounded. A key that would be much better for singing, that half step difference sounded a world away. It makes sense that Pj Morton would go with Eb.
Originally the song composed and performed is in Eb Major. Hence, on the alto it would be natural in C Major. However, I like the feel in A Major on alto sax (C major).

Ab by far for me…Just such an obvious darker timbre that fits this song.
I play the saxophone alto and I like the key of A sounds like the right key to me perfect feel.

E flat or A flat, soft expression of love, others are beautiful too but those keys are more suited I feel, softer.

I like C and Ab. Eb sounds really mellow though. I would use that one near the end of a night if I was trying to ramp peop[le's evergies down a bit.

Eb for me but I tend to prefer lower pitched playing. What are the differences when you get to the chorus? I tend to be one of those folks who fidget while waiting for the verse to finish so we can get to the fun bit.

I like C too, but it doesn't fit very well on the sax. This tune has a very large range from lowest to highest note.

What?! Eb and A are swapped jaajaja. All sound terrific, but for saxophone design reasons "C and "Eb" has less under-vented notes i think, sounds a liiiiitle more even. Great playin as always!!

Ok. You added more vibrato and air when you did it in A. Hahahaha. So that’s the one I like. When you played in Ab you played it much softer.

sounds best in c to me....simple open key....gives the alto the old bop sound...easier to get your licks off!!!!

I actually prefer it in the original key on tenor.
The main problem with the original key is that it goes up to high in the bridge for the sax range. This tune has a really big range, so you have to start it in the middle of the sax.
