That was a nice comeback! Also, I liked that Town Center you built in the middle of the forest after seeing the way you boxed it in. I thought it was cleverly built, but the opponent was smart enough not to raid that area to get potentially trapped in with your knights.
As soon as they took that high ground in almost center they had a massive advantage. I'm surprised they didn't take advantage of when you finally brought your army down to help ally and they didn't have a splinter smash and grab group blitz in at the wooden northeastern wall. Really think the only thing I would have done differently is take out the trebuchets at 16:45 and then charged my knights beyond back towards the enemy bases, cutting off the flow of reinforcements and distracting them from the fight in front of Blue. That many knights, they would have to split their forces somewhere to deal with you.

If he altered his unit composition to not be cavalry archers right when they were punching through, that probably would have changed the outcome I think. I'm unsure, do those ballista elephants take bonus damage from the skirms because they were just countred so hard I feel once paladins with armour & the fact that it's Britons with quick archery ranges and such.
One of the first vids of AoE II I had watched. I spammed your vids then got some more high level games to watch, then finally got to play... Doing well in 1 vs 1s near 1200 (losing only to knights after 5 wins), but team games I'm struggling with. I've learned so much about this game and it's one of those games (1 of very few) that has so many tit-bits to learn from... that my original comment above is just all over the place. I still understand it (I wrote it), but I get so much more such as Cav Archers being MEH in Castle usually - especially 2 vs 2 unless the enemy DIDN'T wall or something. Although this game is 2 years old, quite newish in D.E. I do think late game Magyar Cavalry Archers can be really good against paladins still, but it's only if you've kept them behind. You always need a paladin civilisation I've been feeling. I've really like the idea of Magyars + Teutons lately... Teutonic Paladins with extra armour alongside fast extra range & damage Magyar Cav Archers. The Teutons just need food mostly plus Gold Trade, then Magyars just need food to help sustain in feudal, more in Castle & then boom out slightly later in late castle & just focus on good wood-lines & gold for cavalry archers in Imperial. Go skirmishers if you really need to, but the 12 into 5 damage cavalry archers actually are immaculate versus 7 armour paladins (unlike 10 into 3 damage arbalesters).
i did this in 3v3 lombardia (bulgarian). 2v3 in the middle going on. I made good use of 1 and only castle i made the entire game by placing it in east flank when i hit castle age. feel that i have improved much after seeing u use the same strat and winning the game after that comeback.
Hey SOTL, I always wondered why good players always build lots and lots of lumber camps... I don't think you made a video about that : when should you loose the wood and villager time to build a new camp? You're right. Italian is a simple language but can have some "flaws" due to its multicultural heritage. Sometimes the same suffix (-ia in this case) can have different accents. Lombardia follows a Grecized standard. Other names like Italia, Germania, Croazia don't follow that rule and have the accent in the middle "a".
I feel like you shouldve definitely made trebs earlier, the enemy kinda placed those forward castles without any good reason, didnt repair or protect them (i guess one of them denied your gold and thats it) and it also left them unprotected at home and red was just making everything except battle elephants (he did make a few i guess) which is definitely the best late game option for khmer (this game scorps wouldve been also good vs all the trash blue was making and longbows as well) while yellow just lost too many cav archers to trash units and didnt micro propertly (he also made too many magyar huszar when blue was mainly making halbs) but still wp to not give up
Yeah, I think Yellow or Red could've built some Onagers to deal with Blue's Halbs. Definitely overestimated their own strength there, going solely with units that Halbs counter *hard.* (well, except for Skirmishers, but then again, they're not _that great_ at taking out Halbs either)
Cav Archers aren't countered by Halbs tho, it's supposed to be the other way around but yeah he wasn't paying attention and let those cav archers forward and paid the cost
Nice game. In your position I think I would've tried raiding with light cav much earlier on that forward position you had, it looked like you were floating enough food to afford a few light cav raiding parties while keeping the paladins on the main fight.

Hey SOTL! Really liked your first 15 villager guide, and was wondering if you could please do a similar sort of video about feudal. It would have to be a lot different, because with your first 15 villagers you usually do more or less the same thing every time, and by the time you hit feudal you could have a very different number of villagers depending on your strategy. It's just that I really really suck in feudal and have very little reference on how to build an army or boom or any other one of the myriad of things that you have to do in feudal. Any way, Love you Spirit of the law, you are the reason I play Aoe2 (other than the fact it's a great game)
CA is an easy trap to get stuck in if you play lots of Magyar, I do it all the time, I scout rush, expect spearmen retaliation and then switch into CA, if the enemy does not retaliate with spears I'm usually like, "uh, don't know what to do, guess I'll switch into CA because that's what I know"
I'm surprised they _didn't_ go for Halberdiers. Worse still, when *Spirit* started raiding them, they had only PIKEMEN. _AT IMPERIAL AGE!_ I guess they focused a little too much on their cavalry (Elephants, Cav. Archers and Hussars) and ended up neglecting their infantry. Not a good idea against Franks.
Getting a group of paladins into to an enemy's base next to a hundred of their vills is easily the funnest part of aoe to me lol so satisfying because I know how it feels on the other end 😂

Any way, Love you Spirit of the law, you are the reason I play Aoe2 (other than the fact it's a great game)
what a cozy little town center
Cav archer of enemy isn't right call I think.
And blue guy did awesome job, while franks needs some time.
CA is an easy trap to get stuck in if you play lots of Magyar, I do it all the time, I scout rush, expect spearmen retaliation and then switch into CA, if the enemy does not retaliate with spears I'm usually like, "uh, don't know what to do, guess I'll switch into CA because that's what I know"
The War of Teal VS Cyan
Official name of the colour is cyan in AoE II.
ProTip: if you need to delete a building, delete a house, not a lumber camp, unless you're close to a pop cap.
ELO does not necessarily reflect players' skills, strengths, and victories.
14:02 This is also boxed in so he won't just sneak right by and get to the other side. *sees villagers go to the other side as he is saying this*
Your opponents should have guessed that you will go for Paladins and should have made Herbardiers
I'm surprised they _didn't_ go for Halberdiers. Worse still, when *Spirit* started raiding them, they had only PIKEMEN. _AT IMPERIAL AGE!_
I guess they focused a little too much on their cavalry (Elephants, Cav. Archers and Hussars) and ended up neglecting their infantry. Not a good idea against Franks.
Good stuff keep it up man
Getting a group of paladins into to an enemy's base next to a hundred of their vills is easily the funnest part of aoe to me lol so satisfying because I know how it feels on the other end 😂
23:47 from this moment on sotl's score jumps
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FINALLY SOTL GAMEPLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice comeback
I begin to think you taking so much pressure it feels like there's no comeback and then stealing the day is your trademark now.
yes, road to 1200 would be fun!
love these vids dude
how about another road to 2000 elo?
Spirit, could you try a remake of the Britons civ review like the Teutons?
You could have called this video road to 1800 extended cut.
Idd love to see some ranked games 1v1 or 2v2 isnt crucial
