Very nice, especially the part about rotating the shaft clockwise to seat the impeller in the housing. Thanks man!!!
Do you recommend a light grease on the impeller and the inside of metal ring that goes over it? Whenever I get a new motor they are always chipped up or cracked. Maybe some white lithium or something. Thank you
I just buy the water pump kit.It is only a few bucks more than the impeller.Probably one of the easiest to work on,Yamaha uses a rotary shift,so no linkage rods and such.I replace impeller every 300 hrs, plus the thermostat.Local dealer(stealer)wanted 379.00 to do those-ripoff!
+redzmvt When you have the dealer do it you are paying for his shop overhead costs. It isn't a rip-off, but it's a lot less expensive if you can do it yourself.
Don't forget to mark the position of the trim tab before removing it. Also, it's a good idea to apply a small amount of grease inside the impeller housing before installing it. Good video.
Don’t ever use grease. Dish soap or water based lube works well.
Just push it all the way to the right where it belongs to help eliminate tiller handle torque
Dude let people know about the gear rod disconnect
Yoo I’m having same issue. How do you disconnect Dear rod ? I got the lower unit piped open about 1 inch and the thing next to plastics tube won’t come out Bcuz of that
@@NYStrucking it just slides out. Real nice feature. Where most rods go up down to get in gear. Yamaha does a spline shaft where it turns the rid to select a gear.it will slid apart easy
I think this is my problem...since I did this, IT wont go into reverse or forward
I have same motor starts easy but you apply throttle it won’t rev won’t go fast sound doesn’t change.any tips on where to start? Or what to look at?
Great Video, I have a problem with the Zinc plate. The bolt wont tighten at all, is there a nut on the inside that maybe fell out?
Get info you just save our family trip this weekend
Says nothing about inspecting the base plate or cup.
NOTHING about removing old gasket and reinstalling a NEW GASKET!!!
if the old gasket is all there and fine there is no need to change it. @@JCASTELLUCCIOJR
Thanks Eric, I got enough info from watching your vid to do a full overhaul of the water pump. I did the "o" ring and s/s plate and s/s cup and gasket along with the impeller. I added some grease on the bolts and a bit here and there. I found it easier to undo the water line on the outside the motor rather than trying to take the hose off the barb inside the motor itself. But without your vid I probably wouldn't have had a crack at it.
Bootmotor
I so appreciate your videos.. thanks
hey mate, i have a 2005 yamaha 70hp 2 stroke oil injected and I think i have a slight starting issue, takes about 30 seconds to a minute of cranking to finally get it to splutter then after that it will fire, seems to idle fine and once the motor is warm it starts absolutely fine, just curious if you would be able to shed some light in what to look at for just the starting issue, i see on your channel that all your 2 stroke just basically fire straight away
Could be a number of things. Check your choke settings, needle & seat etc. Too much/not enough fuel/air is usually the culprit.
Screws are for wood, bolts for metal. Rather than rotate the flywheel, leave the prop on and just simply rotate that instead. Good job otherwise !!
Got a link for the impeller part?
Been learning a bunch from your videos, even the really old ones like this. LOL Just did my first lower unit pull, impeller change, and gear oil change on my "new" 86 Yamaha 6hp. Only issue was getting the pick-up tube back into the new bushing on the housing. The impeller didn't have ANY fins left on it, and pieces of the old ones were wedged in the top and bottom of the housing. I used to think these were complicated jobs, but they're pretty simple if you take your time and pay attention. Pumps water like a champ - and even managed to get the shift linkage back together without too much trouble.
Great video - succinct and detailed explained
Confused on the reinstalling the rod next to the tube/plug?
Same here where do that tube goes in?
My pump works and doesnt work. On and off . Not trustable lol what could be the issue,
I did this and now why boat won't go into reverse or forward while motor is running and the lever moves when motor is dead...I didn't disconnect anything, what is going on?
What year is this motor? I have an 86 50ELJ and apparently I need to disconnect the shift linkage. But every video I've seen, noone even touches that linkage.
Fantastic detail, thank you particularly for explaining how to get the impeller blades to fit inside of the housing.
2020/09/03 -- Can you do a Rebuild Video . for a Yamaha 25-30-40 Lower Unit! .?
I just did this on my out oars and now its starts up in gear. How do i fix this?
Hey, I have a similar Yamaha. C40tlrw. I have a problem where it runs great but then will start losing power and slow down, I bring the throttle back down and then I can go fast again for about a minute and a half. I had the carbs done to no avail. I found out it was an over heating issue because I removed the temp switch and it didn’t have the issue. It pees great from the water hole, and I pulled the water jacket and everything off down to the pistons to see if there was salt build up and it was perfectly clean. There is a water leak up near the top of the leg where it swivels. Any suggestions?
If anyone wants to learn about Jesus Christ reply
I may be experiencing the same problem. Where is the temp switch located ? Thanks
Where does the damper gasket fit?? It a black gasket and was with my impeller kit.
Thanks for the informative video. Seems to be just like every other brand I’ve had
Is this the model with gear shift on the tiller?. Do I have to disconnect anything in the engine to drop the leg?
Cheers 👍
Same as a 9.9? I just did mine 4 stroke 2010 and now it won’t start
I have a 9.9 with this problem. Can this be dont with the motor on the pontoon? Do u have tontake the propeller off?
Thanks you for the vidéo
God bless you
Very noisy back ground
Good information
What’s the rubber tube closest to transom side anyone?
I’d done replace my water pump on my Yamaha 2 stroke 200 it still not pumping
Check and see if a dirt dobber , clogged your exit tube/ hole, where what comes out. Take tube off and try to blow thru it, and take a wire to the hole , where water comes out the exit port, to open up and remove mud the dirt dobber put in the line/& port. Happens often
Thank you! You helped replace the impeller on the boat we got. It hasn't ran in 3years.
I bought a boat with a Yamaha 90AET from around 1985. I know it's an older model but is it pretty much the same engine and lower unit (except voor the autolube part)?
Is he changing the impeller or water pump??
impeller
And it's held together with 12 mm screws
SMMFH
@@SURVEYSEZ "B O L T S" !!!!!!
There's no steering linkage on this motor?
Are the gaskets not important?
Does the prop have to be off to do this?
it does not.
So, I didn't see what you were detaching right after dropping the lower unit. It appeared to be the hose (water line)? What about the shift rod? Does that just slide off? I'm getting ready to drop mine right now. (dropped it and it's good).
Are there no orings, seals or gaskets?
Eric I'm having an alarm issue. The pee is shooting water just fine and I see theprevious owner did change the thermostat at some time. It's a continuous alarm and after letting it cool down for a few minutes it fires up and seems to run fine and no alarm. Any idea what this could be?Thanks for any help. BTW I have Yamaha 40 hp 2 stroke 1986 model. Again thanks
Solve the issue? Possibly be another alarm, or a bad temp sensor?
Maybe the poppet or thermostat
The pee😂😂
Same issue on my 30hp yamaha motor. Did u figure it out?
Well done video anyone can follow.
Hi i need some help with my yamaha.
Can u ?
Whats the name of the part just above the propeller that you took off before removing the lower part of the motor.
anodizer
mate ...the first thing ya wanna do is take it out of gear,,,
Eric, is there a rubber grommet at the pump end of the water tube that seals the tube into the plastic/delrin pump housing? On my 00 60 the pump housing is tapered and currently it has no grommet or seal. Was curious if it was a missing part on mine.
My 70 TLRT has 2 seals plus one inside the housing
Very good mate
Right on!!!!
Good video thank you very much
30 € the turbine in French !!!!!
1:12 What's the purpose of that tube there? Great tutorial. Others had forgotten to show the bolt under the anode. I struggled with the lower unit until I found your excellent take down. Thanks a mil.
That's the pitot tube, for the speedo. Mine hasn't worked in a billion years, lol. Comes off a tiny hole at the front of the lower assembly that likes to get full of gunk.
@@StormNayaandFreckles thanks. Would it not be more accurate to run a tacho? I've seen speedo attached to hull to give accurate reading.
@@pauldowling2160 I'm not REALLY an outboard guy, I just knew this because it's been busted on my boat since I got it. I use GPS speedo from my garmin---but tacho on the gauge from the outboard itself, which doesn't rely on this janky tube.
As easy as I thought it would be... Thank you.
Thans Eric. Very helpful for my Iimpeller install.
how to check and change engine oil ?
no engine oil on a 2 stroke, just gear oil
So you don't have to undo a gear linkage?
DBay Boyds no
excellent video. thanks
Something about (indistinguishable...) " this tube" upon removing the lower unit ?? Totally lost me.
what do you recommend using for grease?
you can use any grease
marinnne based lithium grease,or any under water bearing lube
q
for yamahas, there is typically a plastic collar with a metal ring over it that sit just above the impeller inside of the pump housing
great video
Thanks!
Hi, really good video. Can you advise, what the small hose is for that needs to be disconnected and reconnected at the bottom half of the leg when separated? Does it vent any where, or does it act as a pickup for water? As mine is pretty well salted up. Just need to know if it goes anywhere??? Thanks. Tony
Tony Mokomoko, that is the speedometer pickup tube.
Thank you, this is the first video I see on changing the pump, very detail and informative, tnx Budd!
Will a Yamaha 2019 lower unit fit on a 1993 25 hp?
so when you get to the point of putting it back together i cant understand what your saying over the cars. what did you sat?
What does the black tube that you disconnect to detach the lower part of the shaft do. Mine is disconnected and capped on my engine.
its for a speedometer hook up .
Same here wow a speedometer awesome thanks for the info
Great video but am I the only one that saw the impeller cover put on backwards?
Wrong. He flipped the unit over probably to tighten the other 2 bolts on the housing.
👌Thank you!
Hey Eric, I replaced my impeller the other day..fixed carbs, thanks to you...and now it fires up but doesn't shoot water out the telltale, any ideas boss ?
teabaggervance8 your pee hole can be clogged or you did not aligned the water pickup tube correctly onto the waterpump housing
+eric edic what about the t stat ( amateur)
I'm just a kid but there might be dirt in we're the water supposed to come out.A tiny Dirt dobber probly got in there.
Leland Wood good answer kid,or perhaps mis aligned the water pick up tube, sometimes happens.
Do you not have to drain the oil from the lower unit to replace the pump?
Jerome early no
Thanks for asking- was wondering the same thing
Background noise!
motores chinos fuera de borda
.
Max Ross Japón...
Is it the same to do for a 2000 Yamaha 4 stroke
Stephen Warming very similar, but you may have to disconnect the gear linkage also
1:22 I loved the part about putting the lower unit on the ground to scratch up the finish and promote corrosion
opps, thats a rug not apshault lol
Would this be the same with an 87 Yamaha pro 50lh ?
I made it with Avasva handbooks !
