Note : some Yamaha outboards have a 5th bolt under the anode so you won't be able to see it and won't get the 'tail' off until you take that bolt off. Mine is a 30HP with 5 bolts. Also you should put some light grease or detergent on the impeller (turbine) and rotate the housing in the correct direction when sliding it on to ensure the blades are in correct position. André

great vid javier...i just got a second hand gearbox for my yam85cv and will have too check the impeller..looks like a job for me ..when i inspect the houseing /replace impeller..do i change the plate/gasket .or can i use same plate ....one of the better vids ive seen ..great job...peace from australia
Is this video on a 25hp? If not is it the same for a 25hp? I'm trying to save my hubby some money. I changed the oil, fuel filters, greased it now need to change the impeller. Thanks for all the help so far. I just a fishermans wife.
Just before you disassemble, Last run, engage the engine in reverse and kill the engine. This may help if the drive shaft has wear making it possibly easier to remove the lower unit.
Ambas cosas, algunos la cambian cada temporada, normalmente duran mas si endulzas el motor despues de usarlo en agua salada, el salitre se seca y daña la goma, que poco a poco pierde las aletas hasta no mover el agua. Cada vez que se arranca el motor hay que comprobar si sale el chorro del testigo, si no sale hay que apagar el motor y reparar la bomba, a veces se puede obstruir el circuito pero no es lo mas usual.

Even if there is water leakage from the engine circulation water, it may be insufficient, because the pump rotor is damaged, there is also a valve or thermostat which, if it does not let the water circulate inside the engine, Engine will warm up and stop, check these two things and good luck
Cameron Arnold it screws apart mine turned out to be corroded on. It took a lot of CRC spray and perseverance and it finally loosened up so it would unscrew
It is not a simple task. Sometimes the screws appear as a single piece with the metal, making it very difficult to extract. Try this, first wipe thoroughly with a metal brush and some descaler, screw until clean. Use any product after deblocking (type 3 in 1) so that the screw can move. Do not force the screw never because it can separate the head of the screw and then if you will have a big problem.

If only water comes out when the engine is accelerated, it can be due to many causes. The water indicator may be obstructed, use a small wire to unclog it. It may be that the impeller has some broken flap and push little water into the circuit, change the impeller. I hope I have helped

Sorry is a 8 hp, but the procedure is pretty similar.

I see you didn’t use any grease? What’s the deal, grease impeller or not?
Some neutral grease is usually added to the impeller, what happens is that it is lost immediately because it is in direct contact with the water.
