Its pretty amazing that the mechanical engineering of that era still runs decades later ..
    No computers & sensors .
No curcuitry that requires an engineering degree to trouble shoot..
Just mechanized systems that were meant to last..
    Gotta love it.

I am an 83 year old Engineer and I must say I am impressed with the mechanical skills and 'feel' you have acquired, together with your straightforward, easy to understand teaching style.
    Not bad for an Architect!
I am also impressed with the 70 year old design and build of the Farmall, reminds me of robust steam powered machinery from the Victorian age. With a little tender loving care, these machines can keep working indefinitely.
Keep it going Pete, and keep telling us about it.
    A fan from Rutland.

Being a older person who grew up on farmall tractors and still have a farmall M I fund your videos very interesting. As an example I just had to do some front end work on my M. I had to take the steering shaft that goes down thru the front bolster out and have it repaired where it goes thru the gear box at the top. Also replaced the bonze bearing in the gear box. I had watched your rebuild on your MD which helped immensely. Got that fixed and discovered that the radiator had a leak. And since I was moving the radiator I figured I might just as well replace all the hoses and thermostat. In removing the radiator I bent a fan blade so I replaced that also. And again I watched your MD video which helped immensely. Also one last thing Pete my brother has an 856 and he has also been watching your videos. We always call each other on Sundays to discuss your latest episode. Again thanks Pete for all your videos.

With all of those wee bitty parts needing to go back the way they came out, I'd be sitting in a corner blubbering and drooling! My hat's off to you all of you who handle these workings like it's simply putting a simple puzzle together. Again, thanks for a calming episode----it must be your voice and knowledge that relaxes me.

When I see you take apart these assemblies, I marvel at the complexity and the design - each part has a purpose and a reason for being, as well as a specific position in the grand scheme of things. And you have to keep the order for reassembly in your head! As you said, the parts book helps with that. But still, when I see snap ring after snap ring come off, revealing more moving parts, I admire your stamina, Pete! That was a lot of sludge in the brake unit! Thank you very much for sharing this substantial undertaking with us - taking the time to explain and to film it all is really appreciated. Your descriptions help us visualize how it works and makes me think that this is not as simple as it seems. Regards to Hillarie, the family, and to Ezra, who was heard plaintively meowing in the background @ 10:45 - 😊

I enjoy your description on the breakaway and rebuilding of your equipment.
The skills of the manafactures to design the product in the day prior to CAD ( much Respect), I'm impressed of how they did their castings and admire just what skills they had to produce what they did. It's a pleasure to get an understanding of the engineering involved, and not just a commercial as is now!!. Can't wait for the 856 to be compleated and see her running as she was designed.

Your videos will save many tractors from the scrapyard. I’m sure there are many tractors sitting around with a few minor problems that just need a new generation armed with the information from your videos to teach and enable them to tackle the issues. Once people see what they can accomplish, they will have more confidence to tackle other tasks. This can-do mindset is what we need in this country. It is what can save our country.

      @ryanevers7563 ,
Ryan , it is not only instilling the can-do mindset that is needed. A want-to do mindset is needed also. I have talked with many youngsters that do not want to repair anything ! They would much rather discard a repairable item and buy another new one.
Simply put they do not want to get their hands dirty.

I have a 1965 Ford Ranchero with a small V-8 that I have always maintained myself. I have owned it since 1972 and it runs like a Swiss watch. It also gets 21-22 mpg. I also have a 2008 Toyota with a V-6 that is computer controlled. I can't do anything to the engine. It idles with a slight tremor and gets 14-16 mpg with a smaller engine.
I would not hesitate to drive my Ranchero across the country from Ohio to Ca. and back ! The Toyota ? I have my doubts that it would make it one way. Plus with it I could not afford Bidet's gas. It would actually cost me less to fly round trip.
My 59 year old Ranchero runs better than my 2008 Toyota.

Another enjoyable video. when you put that part in backwards, it sparked my memory. I used to be a mechanic in the Army back in the day and I swapped out a pinion gear in a rear axle and when I put it back in, I had it backwards. so wound up with 3 gears in reverse and only one forward!. hmmm? that was back in 1960 and it still hurts haha. The joys of youth and enthusiasm!. thanks for sharing ECF

You are intrinsically part of the American spirit and represent a teacher in a large movement in America for people like me who feel society took from us the chance to be what our grandparents where.
And are working toward a return to the type of simpler more fulfilling life like you do.

Another great video Pete. Even though I don't have that shade of red tractor watching your detailed and in depth explanation of those hydraulic clutches powering the PTO and brakes does give me insight into the inner workings of my PTO and brake mechanism on my "off brand" red and blue tractors. I know they are probably assembled slightly different but the fundamentals I think would be very similar. I'm eagerly awaiting the next episode in this series.

I’m enjoying the rebuild, I really like the tool you made to depress the spring, simple and effective.

Dad and I now have a restoration of a 1486 planned for this coming winter. We have the manuals, but I tremendously appreciate your walkthrough style videos with your explanations.

Hi Pete! 👋, about the clutch plates on the PTO, where do you get your parts from, I’m just curious because im eventually gonna fix up an old 1466 I have that’s been on my dads sawmill for the past 14 years and the PTO is probably destroyed now, so I’d like to fix it, thanks have a good day

" . . . a procedure that needs to be conveyed verbally." This implies that text and images are inadequate or difficult to create. Interesting dichotomy.

Again…I like it a lot….it really isn’t an instruction video ….more of an information and more clip…AMSR plus plus plus if you will….even though someone could take this and do the work…slugs like me just enjoy knowing all the intricate details…..really just my eclectic interests but I call it a character defect..lol……same with how Pete does the farming videos….the philosopher pharmer -eh? …not my bag baby but it’s probably just me and I can fast forward through those segments on this channel……thanks for taking us along…….

Pete, I have a question. How does the PTO maintain a constant RPM, e.g., 540 or 1000? Does the operator need to maintain a constant engine RPM, or is there another mechanism? Thanks.

Hey Pete, I have been watching a few videos tonight. You repaired the church clock, you worked on a tractor, and you celebrated 9 years since you left your job. All were good. I have an idea that you are uniquely able to tackle in a video format: common 2x6 and fibreglass, straw bales and plaster, or cord-wood construction. Which do you feel are appropriate for use in household construction? Thank you.

I don't think I could ever do this sort of job. I would have to many parts left over. LOL! Kudo's to you Pete. That reminds me of that old Car Talk episode where Click or Clack said that if you rebuild a VW Beetle enough times you will eventually have enough left over parts to build another VW Beetle.
