    I had a Peugeot 4008 which uses the same awd system as on the ASX. It might have failed the last test here, but in normal real world usage here in Norway the system was really good, was never stuck. Although I don't do any offroading, but we get a lot of snow very I live (800 meter above sea level). Getting quickly out of junctions while on snow was no problem, nor was stopping and starting on steep snow covered hills, there was no wheelspin it would just get going. You do feel the difference in the car between auto and lock, but auto is fine for day to day driving. Common issue though (in areas where they use salt) is for the clip that hold the rear abs sensor in place to rust and fall off, then you lose 4wd, abs and esp. The clip is a part of the wheel bearing assembly, so replacing that fixes the issue and it's a fairly easy job, no press required.
    I now have a 2016 Subaru outback 2.5 with the cvt and it took some time to get used to it. Getting quickly out of junctions is not as easy, too much throttle too quickly and it spins the front wheels TC hits and you bog down. When I first got it I was convinced the 4wd was not working after almost getting stuck trying to get out of a junction, it felt like I was driving a FWD car. I have gotten more used to it now though,. It will probably benefit from some new winter tyres.
    This got much longer then I thought it would, anyway I love watching these videos, so keep them coming :)

      Thank you for sharing your experienced, I had ASX for six years and I also confirm that the system was really good on snow, only problem was late reaction of traction control. That's interesting what you say about Subaru, do you have the FWD feeling always or only when you start with steering wheel turned (cranked wheels)?

    I don't see a tangible difference between Auto and Lock modes in both cars.

    These tests are not even remotely close to a real world situation absolutely you will not be able to in any way shape or form ever get traction on a roller when all it does is spin but if the spinning wheel on a vehicle is on a solid surface and it's spinning the type of tire would actually help you get grip on the actual surface that's not moving underneath the car like the rollers use your head people

      Again I don't get your point. Tire on the ground has grip and it should pull the car, that's the point of the test.

      @@4x4.tests.on.rollers if a car is sitting they're slipping on rollers you're trying to show that the car is not capable of going anywhere unless the tire that's on the rollers could actually grip as much as the other tires. if a person would stop and think about it for a second a roller is only going to spin underneath the spinning tire but if that spinning tire was on the ground like in mud or anyting else a certain type of tire tread would help it grip better. the ground underneath the tire does not move, but what moves is the roller itself I don't know how I could describe that to you to make it make any more sense. I do understand your point and showing the capabilities of the all-wheel-drive system using the tires with the most grip to do all of the pulling but in reality any tire that is on the ground itself unless one of the tires is actually raised up off of the ground and some weird scenario then the vehicle has the ability to get itself out of a stuck situation

      It's possible that this type of test doesn't correspond to reality.
      But they do have one enormous advantage: they allow you to judge the mechanical operation of a 4wd transmission, the electronic assistants, and the coordination of the two.
      And that's worth a lot.

As you noticed - there are situations when wheels are in the air - and that's actually very common situation during offroad, even light offroad (diagonal obstacles), so there's no ground underneath two wheels at all. Now let's skip to some winter situations when you are stuck cause some wheels are spinning on ice patches, for example two wheels on the road and two wheels on the roadside. If you are stuck - ground underneath the wheels is not moving. Up to the point when power is transferred to the wheels on the road, situation is like on rollers. When car starts to move forward then of course it's different, but as @Soft mentioned, roller tests can give a lot of information about basic system ability of power transfer.
