This was so wonderful! My husband and I are catechumens and should be brought into the Church very soon, God willing.
I grew up in Santa Ana, CA and was raised non denom and attended a private Christian school until the 8th grade. Never once did I hear a thing about the early Church. I had never heard of Orthodoxy until last year. I was completely fed up with the Calvinistic teachings of the churches I had attended and felt as though I was about to lose my sanity. I cried out to God to please lead me into all truth. He answered me! Glory to Jesus Christ.
The hardest part is patiently enduring those in my family that simply cannot accept this truly being the Church. May the Lord God have mercy on us all, and lead us into His eternal kingdom.
    Looking forward to more videos!

Thank you for sharing! That's such a blessing that you and your husband are catechumens in the Orthodox Church. Love it!! 🔥🔥
In many ways I sympathize with your comment about the harm of Calvinistic teachings. Not only was I a Calvinist (Lord have mercy 🥴🤧) but I had a family member that was a Calvinist too. It had such an effect on him that he was fed up and unfortunately stopped believing in Christianity all-together. My hope is that Orthodoxy brings him back home to the truth.
Thanks again for tuning in with us! Wish you and hubby well during this amazing journey you guys are on! 😊☦️

Orthodoxy isn't the only church though. The church is all believers everywhere - everyone who belongs to Jesus.

Fr. Jonathan is totally right! Once people start reading church history and doing reading on our own, the Eastern Orthodox church seems to open up whole new possibilities. That's how I became interested in Orthodoxy. I began asking the questions posed here and others: What did the early church teach? What happened to the church Jesus started against which He promised the gates of hell wouldn't prevail? If the true church disappeared until 1517 then didn't the gates of hell prevail? Was Jesus wrong? If Jesus' promise was true, then that church must still exist. If Jesus was fully man and fully God then shouldn't the church He started have a discernible body, too, not just a "spiritual" one? Why do Evangelicals then say the church is "spiritual" only? Isn't that a bit Gnostic in belief thinking it's only on a spiritual level but not a physical one? These are just some of the questions I asked which lead me to investigate Orthodoxy.

As long as they're reading with a Mind looking for truth, AkA the exact opposite way of how they read Scripture.
If they read Scripture Poorly then they will read the Fathers even more poorly.

@@acekoala457 Pride? Really? Thanks for the benefit of the doubt. Sheesh. Because we are taught that anything outside of the canon is fallible. And if it’s not in the canon, it’s because it has questionable teaching or might contradict. That God knew what He was doing when He out together His word. To be fair, some are encouraged to read the early church fathers for historical purposes and help make sense of some things, but to keep in mind that that they are not infallible. Honestly, if you were taught all your life that the Bible is God’s only word and anything else is to be questioned or should align with the Bible, you’d be cautious, too. I’m learning about EO and looking into those writings, but it’s has to line up with scripture or at least, if I’m misunderstanding something, someone has to be able to show me where I don’t see it. I’m open to it. I’m open to whatever God has for me.

@@david-468 wow. Not only did you miss the point, but seems you might be the one with an issue of pride. I’m an EO catechumen now thanks to other EO Christians who understood and were patient with me. Coming from where the people in question came from I have no problem giving them the benefit of the doubt and patiently explaining. Like my husband who is still trying to understand where I’m coming from. It’s out of fear, not pride. But when all you have to say is, “it’s all pride,” I guess you know it all then. Are there some where it’s pride? Most definitely. James White is a fantastic example. But the majority, it’s fear due to lack of understanding. Forget authors, whole Protestant traditions run like that. That’s how I had been raised and taught since we were kids. If you had been raised that way and that’s all you ever heard, you’d be afraid for your salvation, too. A little compassion goes a long way. Thankfully, not all EO come across like you. (OP mentioned Protestants. Not Protestant authors.)

This is excellent. It is interesting that protestants of the ‘’Church of Christ’ denom think that by using this name it makes their church the one in scripture because it uses the same phrase.🙄 The original ‘trans’ language was changing the name of a church to make it the one in scripture.

    Great video!
To answer the hypothetical objection at 43:00 - would it be appropriate to state that the sacraments of the church can only be distributed via a valid ordained priesthood (apostolic succession)? Therefore, this can only be obtained in the one true church.
Or is this more of a Roman Catholic stance?

I've taken communion ( the body and blood of Christ) at home - no priest, just me and God, and using my own wine and bread, and He healed me of a physical ailment during that communion. It was a tightness in the chest and dry cough that I'd had for over a year, and it disappeared after taking the bread and wine, and has never returned. That was about 18 months ago.

    • @TheTransfiguredLife

Apostolic Father's is a collection of writings from some of the earliest Father's of the Church like St.Ignatius, St.Clement and etc etc. So just like the Holy scriptures it's not one individual author but a collection of authors during the first few centuries of Christianity.

Just because it was Peter and John that laid hands on the new converts in Samaria, doesn't mean that it had to be the apostles that were the only ones who could do this. It might have been that the new converts had received the Word from fairly new and inexperienced believers, therefore that might be why Peter and John may have needed to go do this. While there, they probably would have taken the opportunity to train and teach all the immature believers there, so that they didn't have to return to Samaria every single time there were new converts.
