Same ... and it isn't just an american thing. I lived in Lusaka (Zambia) for a little over 15 years. The difference is, the darker you are there, the better you are treated. Lighter skinned ppl are often treated as lesser than. White ppl there are neutral ... i am white btw .... though there are certain things expected of white ppl while they live there that felt super awkward (ex .... it is considered good etiquette for white ppl to hire a "maid" ... but you cant pay them over a certain amount or they will be treated badly by their neighbors ... we had to compensate by giving her things (besides the base pay) and we never referred to her as "the maid" or hired help but as family bc that is what she became to us). Anyway .... the rules within black communities are still strange to me as they mostly center around how dark or light you are .... when to me, good and bad has nothing to do with that .... it is the heart and mind that matters the most to me. Blessings from san antonio tx.

i watch a therapist who says that a lot of relationships are salvageable. i honesty don't think that's true especially if one person doesn't want to admit ever when they are wrong. at that point imo both of the people within said relationship should separate and learn more about themselves. it's hard to work on urself when all of ur mental space is taken up by someone else.
if she likes him then they'll probably be together for a long time n they'll probably be "happy". i have a sister who keeps going back to abusive relationships cause she doesn't wanna be alone with her thoughts.
it's a lot of shame that comes up i think. it's the shame that prevents people from becoming better. also the anger.
one thing i heard is that to be actually happy is to be vulnerable because anyone can take away that happiness. but to be angry is something that no one but urself to can really take away. it's a form of protection, a defense from feeling the same trauma that got u to become defensive in the first place.
it's different for everyone but i really think figuring out who u are n trying different things is so important to having any stable relationship. platonic or not. acknowledging the shameful things n the good things within u n accepting ur human.
there are no bad guys or good guys. that's fiction. what we have are humans with complicated lives that happened before u met them or before ur interactions with them. doesn't mean u shouldn't be upset if they do something bad. it just means there are reasons for it n if we can figure that out maybe we can prevent it from happening again.

Whenever someone regularly refers to women as “females” it’s a major red flag…..especially when referring to minors. It reads as blatantly misogynistic and is incredibly concerning when he uses it to devalue the fact that he’s talking about a CHILD. I know this doesn’t seem like a huge deal but the way individuals use language is highly important so I just wanted to mention it.

I am still weird about this one. Females has nothing to do with misogyny, to my knowledge. There are differences between females and males biologically.
As a female in her mid forties, I still use the word when speaking about men and women. I also use the word "males" as well when speaking about men.

    • @fedoramcclaren4294

@@fedoramcclaren4294 I totally get the confusion! While generally speaking (from a biological/scientific stance) it might not be an issue, but when someone predominantly uses “female/male” over “man/woman” it can hint to some underlying prejudice. In essence, it’s reduces the accomplishment/personality/etc. of that person by placing their value in their biological sex. So instead of sentences like “she is a woman” it becomes “she is a female” which can establish that she is only worth her biological sex (pretty gross when talking about minors). Hopefully that helps clear some of the confusion!

@@jamesielussos4307 I can't say it reduces accomplishments or personality, nor is it prejudiced, well from my perspective.
Not saying it is great based on it being a thing most folks say (in my peer group or older) in having a common conversation.
What I do know is, when speaking about a collective category, such as music or academics, the word "female" or "male" is used.
For example: "The award for best FEMALE pop album goes to:"
When speaking about an individual, many folks just say "man" or "woman".
      Another example:
Sometimes some folks say "these females are trippin'".
As an individual, someone may say "this lady is trippin'" or use the "b" word to express themselves.

Watching Bianca try to act 'ghetto' and assuming darker skinned people are just naturally 'ghetto' is pretty insulting as a dark skinned female. I was very much into gaming as a child and found it extremely disheartening that my friends on mic never belived me nor my brother were black, let alone of darker complextion because we didnt 'sound black'. We didnt use much slang and enjoyed rock music and R&B. It wasnt until the xbox connect came out we could actually "prove" our culture to them and even then it became a constant battle against the stereotypical 'black' jokes such as eating chicken and 'not seeing us in the dark'. Doesn't surprise me now looking back why we eventually left that group of 'friends' but it was definately an eye opening experience on the difficulties of growing up of a darker complextion. For Bianca to put on such a facade and an ignorant one at that, just goes to show you how little she knows her own culture and what little respect she has for the troubles they face simply growing up and trying to feel like a human.

I grew up in a family with a lightskin mother and a dark skin father and the colorism thing breaks my heart every time I see the clips. I hope that little girl never sees those clips, if i saw that it would shatter my self worth and my relationship with my parents. If you didn’t grow up in a community where you see colorism, it’s fucked up as hell.
My siblings all had green eyes while mine were brown and I was insecure about it, alongside my coarser hair, for a really long time. Colorism can be intense and make you look at your racial features and feel ugly. It made me think I was better than the dark skinned kids when I was younger just because I was lighter toned it made me hide from the sun in the summer and straighten my hair within an inch of its life to feel good about myself.
Colorism is fucked up in so many macroscopic ways but I’ll always be infuriated by the damage it does to the psyche and self image of children of color.
Edit: if you really want to be mad, watch the apology/explanation video that followed the birth video. They never apologize at all, they’re just annoyed people are commenting at all. Bianca explains that she said pretty eyes because that’s how she heard it growing up, with no reflection on what that means whatsoever, or what it implies about darker eye colors. Even my old school mother was able to understand why she shouldn’t use the phrase “good hair” anymore. Seriously, fuck these guys.

So much internalized pain. Every color that God made is beautiful. It sucks that people have internalized European Beauty standards and placed them on a people that have different features from that. Black skin, no matter its shade (from alabaster white from albinism to onyx black for those who are more melanated) is beautiful. Beautiful. Black hair, loose and curly, to deep and tight coils, is beautiful. We change in the sun and our hair defies gravity. I appreciate our many forms of beauty and hopefully these new generations will too. God made us all beautiful, in His image !!
