What Monaco is for F1, what Indy500 is to Indy the Rally of Finland is to WRC. It is the most prestigious and spectacular rally in the calendar and has been that since the beginning.
This video brought back some memories. Last time I went to watch rally, it was 2003 in Jyväskylä. Went there with my parents, I was 7yo. We slept in a van we rented, just put some matresses in the back. Camping and walking to stages to watch rally cars go by. Dad teaching me stuff about rally. He did some rally driving too when he was young. On the trip back home, it was late night, dad fell asleep while driving and mom punched him awake along with some loud swearing :D After that we took a coffee break and got home safely. It was a fun trip.
Love to see the appreciation to all the paths i've walked and the roads i've driven a million times! Didn't go myself this year as the weather was awful, but watched it all online. That just doesn't come even close to actually being there on the side of the road
I went to Rally Finland last year, and on the last day I was at Revolution bar in Jyvaskala city centre and Evans, Neuville, Sunninen & Latvala were there. I was drinking with a group of Welsh boys who knew Evans and we were getting rounds of Jaeger bombs in. Great day.
Thanks for the nice video mate! The amount of Toyota fans is related to that the Toyota Gazoo Racing rally car factory is in Jyväskylä and they call this event as their home event. It is also home for two of their drivers, Kalle an Takamoto.
Yeah no change seeing all the stages without heli. It takes usually twice the estimated time to get there, get lost, stuck in traffic and find a good spot, so dont get creedy :D Choose every third or something and get there properly geared and early. Its a learning curve, i've been 3 times there and still learning a lot. Spot the hc fans and see what they do and copy that or buy VIP-event and get to know the vibe. Foldable camping chair is must, your feet will be abused. Its like small hiking trip with rally cars.
I live in Jyväskylä and I'm not at all a WRC fan, but it's nice to see your point of view of the event. For me it's just loads of tourists everywhere and lots of noise lol.
HAHAH I can certainly see your point of view, there certainly was alot of tourists there for it! Hopefully it brings alot of positive things to the town as since ive been alot of people ask me about the city, and of course ive only got good things to say :D
You got it on this video very well what it really is. Lots of traffics, lots of walking and hiking, but when you get to see that speed and mandness, it is all worth it. You weren't on the places where the speed is mental, but the feeling at Ouninpohja/Kakaristo is amazing. Good video 👍. Are you coming again?
Nice video, mate (with the cool Australian accent). Hope you enjoyed your time in Finland. Our family has been every autumn there spectating the rally in three different generations at least. It’s always a spectacle. Always good to see some Australians visiting here in the North. Also, as you’re probably aware of, our very own Valtteri Bottas is pretty much Aussie now btw. Greetings from Big Casey Stoner fan from Finland 🇫🇮🤝🇦🇺
Hey there! Epic to hear you are a Casey Stoner fan, he is an absolute legend!!!! You live in such a picturesque spot and Finland was amazing such a fun event especially for my FIRST ever WRC race! 🥵The only downside was not seeing Kalle win hahaha that would have absolutely capped it off!!
if u ever got time to, i would suggest ANYONE to watch the cars that comes after WRC cars, aka VETOMIES! those are mostly old RWD cars such like corolla AE86, bmw e36, toyota starlet, and even some soviet Ladas!
@@Automotive_Experience i gave 2 cars for free to PTF-racing.. too bad that their rally ended at first stage or so... they drive finlands fastest rally Lada (70's) you coudd check the co-pilot's channel "Petri Seppänen". He has a lot of cool and interesting videos. From onboard videos when driving 180kmh in snow trail and to repairing the car in between rallies and more :D
10:16 guy just casually overtaking a line of cars on the double yellows :D I get why he does it cause he's in a race, but still weird to see on the road
I went to rally greece this year and cant wait to share that vlog with everyone but in terms of rally for the futures YES RALLY SWEDEN is top of the list with Rally Kenya :P
@@Automotive_Experience wrc had few times snow rally in finland's lapland in recent years because there waa way too less or not any snow in sweden at the location what was planned to be as rally. Was it 2022 or so when we had 2 rallies in finland, the regular summer time and another was at lapland like 3-4 months earlier
Wow I didn’t know that! That’s cool as, it’s on my list of events to get too in the next couple of years! I think rally Finland has set the bar pretty high for rally events!
theyre coming :P I had to keep myself occupied in the mid season break right :P i couldnt just go home and do nothing! so exploring more motorsport events was the best thing to do hehe
Well might I say, you have a cool hometown :P Oh awesome! I was impressed how well the event was run, sooooo cool! Cant wait to come back and visit Finland again! So many epic memories!
4:30 "scandinavia big fan of EVs" a) nope we are not, certainly not compared to central europe - and the reason for that is that evs suck in arctic conditions some of us have them, and they deal with a much lowered battery capacity. I am very much a fan of diesel offroading because of my living circumstances, a tesla would never reach my house in winter, spring, autumn ... and on tuesdays. b) finland is not scandinavia, but i let that slide my dear kiwi.
you got me good with the kiwi part haha! Ive never thought off the EV situation in winter but damn that wouldnt be an ideal situation, the EV really seems only suitable for downtown living,
@@Automotive_Experience haha... seriously, we love ozzis and kiwis much more than evs. Though some cityslickers drive an enjoy them, people also drive hybrids. But people on the countryside have little use for them. Of course the gay swedes who live all in the south may all have heated and pink garages. (we love our neighbours, but they are somewhat more feminine than average, viking my arse) Think about it, every winter i take some batteries inside the house, and those i use to start my cars with are permanently on a charger when i am not driving just to keep them from dying the cryodeath. (-20c and lower is mean to batteries) i am yet to see a pragmatic EV, that has been designed for or properly tested in the arctic. And they all have in common that when you hit a rock in the rugged terrain underneath - there is a good chance to puncture and ignite the battery. I rather have an explosive hydrogentank in my trunk/boot area - than an inceniary bomb under my arse. bottomline: If you want to sell me an EV, give it difflcokers, crawlergears, reinforced bottom plates, a winch, 2 meters flatbed inside a cabin if possible and make it so that if someone buys it in 10 years, the battery will still be decent enough to drive it around. oops - there is the other problem no one ever talks about. They lose their value just as fast as your cell phone, and for the same reason. While my old diesel pajero offroader keeps trucking after 22 years - evs will go from first owner to trashcan within 10 yrs. Theyre useless for the used-car market Until battery swaps become a thing, which would require standartized selfswappable batteries cheers with beers from finland i am not categorically against EVs - just saying we here in the north have a brain.
SS Ouninpohja is my ultimate bucket list.
it is literally THE BEST!
You captured the speed and feeling of being there really well, nice work!
Thanks heaps, its comments like this that make me enjoy capturing the journey to share! :D :D
