    Agreed, it's incremental relative to the 14 Pro, but nobody ever should upgrade their phone annually anyway. Phones are designed to last for years, like Samsung they promised at least 4 years worth of updates and the reason to get an iPhone is that Apple supports their product way longer which means you get to use it for a longer period of time while having all the latest feature/security updates.
    Edit: Case in point, iPhone X series are still getting the latest iOS 17 updates and that lineup was originally released back in 2017! No Android phones in history ever achieved that level of support. I feel THIS alone makes the iPhone easily the better buy, provided you don't change phone once a year that is.

    • @SterbenXxX
      @SterbenXxX ปีที่แล้ว +24

      iPhone X didn't receive iOS 17 update, however, iPhone XS/XS Max and XR received the update. I believe Apple has been moving on supporting their device for 5 years (or so). We will probably see iPhones XS left behind with iOS 18.

    • @benblitzkrieg
      @benblitzkrieg ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@SterbenXxX thanks for the correction, also one more thing to add, aside from major OS updates - even the iPhone 6s is still getting security updates with the latest being just released in September 11, 2023. And this phone was released 8 years ago.
      You will not get the latest feature and everything else, but you are still getting security updates from Apple. And that is a big win.

      @@benblitzkrieg I can say for my own experience, iPhone 6S is pretty much dead at this point. The old hardware can't really hold the software anymore. Anyway, the iPhone 6S was and is one of the best iPhone ever released. It served me well for 4 years, and the reaperability was still acceptable at that point.

    I'm still on an iPhone 11, and thanks to a few battery replacements it's still absolutely fine. I was excited to update to the iPhone 15 Pro this year but I'm seriously doubting this idea now. It's a lot of money for a phone and I'll probably would hardly notice the difference after a few months of use. It will however add some stress concerning losing or damaging it.

    _Plus, I love to record in ProRes ‘log’ this retains more color information and metadata, then standard ProRes_
    _The iPhone 15 Pro’s are definitely for professional photographers, videographers and cinematographers; Cinematic, ProRaw, ProRes, ProRes Log with a Pro Neural Engine processor Dedicated to camera performance that learns how you use your camera for even better performance and enhancements._
    _Even though ProRes was good enough when it comes to editing colors, contrast and shadow for my videos, ProRes log offers a wider range of dynamics and color control, now I can include actual proper sharpening and detailing to the video without noise and distortion. Unfortunately though, RED owns the rights to true authentic RAW video recording And Apple lost the court battle with them_

The iPhone 15 is NOT MEANT for you. However for those who have an iPhone 11 or older, the iPhone 15 is a HUGE UPGRADE and NO-BRAINER to upgrade. • @randomcomentator
    @randomcomentator ปีที่แล้ว +2

    15 Pro Max is the most unimpressive upgrade ever. The phone feels less solid and like a downright downgrade from the 14 Pro Max.
    What nobody mentions, 15PM randomly freezes up when you review the images quickly and then try to take another photos. There is a solid 3 seconds or more of the camera app freeze and you cannot take any picture. 48MP RAW is as laggy as ever, you will not be able to shoot more quickly in that mode - important for fast moving subjects.
    As to DNGs from the 15PM, there is no Adobe Neutral color profile in Camera Raw and you must rely on Apple's ProRAW profile which is inferior. Capture ONE RAW support is mediocre at best and they still not enabled tethering with the iPhone, so there is zero incentives to get with this phone as of now.
    Regarding copying the files - it still takes ages when you import the DNGs from the Image Capture app - I noticed it copies two 33MB files per second. Downloading 7GB took a few minutes and should be instant with USB 3 speeds.
    The LOG and USB-C recording is a nice bonus, but the dynamic range is a far cry from a real camera. The lenses are soft and the noise reduction looks terrible on a large screen
    More over, the "always on display" easily turns off in a darker room.

    I waited three years between upgrades since the iPhone 3s, until this year. There was no question that the upgrade was not optional. If you don't shoot in ProRes, then waiting for the 16 Ultra might be worth it. The USB-C 3.2 alone was sufficient for me, as the time I spend exporting ProRes to my Mac is reason enough. There are lots of other things: battery life, processing speed, slightly improved cameras, and about twenty more.
    By the way, the phone was $1600, but Apple took my 14PM back for $650, so the out-of-pocket price was $950 with a 1TB SD drive, which is insanely cheap. My first cellphone, a Mitsubishi Transportable, was $1800 in 1991, and it could only make phone calls for $0.60 per minute. Plus, I paid $200 for a 4-meg stick of RAM for my computer.
    Next year, I will pick up the 16 Ultra, but I'll keep the 15PM as a second camera. I would have kept the 14PM, but the lightning port speed is painful. I do understand that having a discouraging title about Apple gets views. Tony & Chelsea Northrup are experts at getting clicks that way.

    Steve Jobs was right when he always stuck by stainless steel in product design: iPod Classic, iPod Touch, iPhone 4. It's why the 6/7/8 designs were so boring until it was re-introduced with the X. It's what made higher-end Apple Watch sell. I hate they've completely pivoted to titanium, and I have a feeling variations of the Ultra will be replacing the stainless steel Apple Watches.

    I just upgraded my phone for the first time since 2018 (had a XS Max). I've chosen the 14 Pro Max and this review made me glad I went with the "older" phone instead of the 15 Pro Max. They're all insane pieces of technology but the prices are crazy. I'm also glad I went with the Pro Max instead of going with the regula 14 due to the wide lens camera which is phenomenal. I also like my screens big and it's hard to go back to smaller screens.
    The fact that Apple discontinued the 14 Pro and Pro Max is all the proof you need that they could bring all the software updates to the 14 Pro Max but just wouldn't and went on to force users to buy the newest phone, which is really annoying. I think the more the phones are similar between generations, the more they'll force us to move on to newer phones.

    The “made from titanium” is a stretch. The edge is banded with a titanium strip with a PVD coating on the colored versions. See the Jerry Rigs Everything tear down. The weakness this year is in the rear glass, although the overall structure may contribute to that. I love my 14 Pro Max and lock it into ProRes, with 85-100 or so MB images. It does not replace my cameras but does produce great photos. The “seven lenses” marketing is really misleading and I’m surprised it got by the legal team. Apple could have instead just emphasized how good the images look when cropped to 35 and 50 equivalents (similar to Leica’s Q series).

    I had been working with the IPhone 14 Pro Max for nearly a year. I'm wondering that you haven't talked about the fast processor of the 15 Pro Max. The whole iPhone experience is way smoother than on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Lightroom and Adobe Rush Rendering ist out of this world and I would say on par with my M1 Mac Pro. When it comes to the cameras ... Yeah they are nearly the same I would agree with you. I'm curious of the VR Video recording which will come by the end of the year.
    But that USBC Port is finally a game changer. From SD Card Readers to Microphones there's so much of my stuff that's supported now, that working with this phone is way better than with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Using capture one with my Sony A7rV and A7IV ist a game change over USBC. As long as you are not using the iPhone as a professional, I would really stick to the 14Pro Max this year. But if you want to travel light and need a device for Social Media work or as external camera monitor. The 15 ist the way to go.

Also, the fact that we get blazing fest Wi-Fi finally that actually seems to be fast and responsive is a huge win. And the fact that it’s lighter to lug around is just the icing.
