Denver was the dynasty team, oh wait Minnesota beat them. Well it makes sense because Anthony Edwards is MJ 2.0, oh wait, Dallas beat them. Well Luka is the best player on the planet and could also be the next Jordan.
Was the West better than the East this year? Sure, but the idea that Boston wouldn't be a top 4 or 5 team in the West was ridiculous. Their record against the West was still good enough to be the #1 seed. Based on talent, there was good reason for Dallas to be the 5 seed in the west and I think we'll see that in this series.

Tatum is the reason the mavericks got no lobs, having the ability to put Tatum on gafford or lively so kp or Al can be on Washington or djj was everything. Makes it so you can't get lively and gafford in the pick and roll, rolling to the basket. That game plan destroyed the mavericks offense, yeah Tatum had some turnovers and didn't shoot great, lead the game in assists and rebounds, and is the KEY to the defensive game plan, so no it wasn't a shitty game for him, it was a fantastic game, just a poor offensive game, but he didn't need to score clearly. There's a reason Tatum had a better +- than brown and porzingis
It's always nice to see someone who actually understands the game, and doesn't just look at how many pts someone scored. Game 1 was a defensive masterclass by the Celtics.

Also have to give credit to the owners for putting their money where their mouth is because this team is going to be EXPENSIVE starting next season
The Celtics had the best offensive team in NBA history this season. Now add the #2 defensive rating in the league this year as well. There is no team in the NBA that was going to beat the Celtics in a 7 game series this year without the C's suffering a season ending injury to Brown or Tatum.

Denver was arguably better than Minnesota which was arguably better than Dallas but they both ran into matchups that hit their weaknesses especially hard.
Boston is both a much better team and has a good matchup. They would need to really underperform for this to be a close series.

All that matters is the W. We honestly play better when he’s not playing iso ball and putting up 30+. We have so many shooters that can get in their rhythm and go off at any time. He doesn’t need to carry the team anymore. This isn’t the same team as 2020

It's reasonable, the discourse favors offense, dislikes advanced stats, and the C's are boring. Dallas has the last White boy standing, who happens to be the best offensive player in the game, they had a great playoff run, and they come with built in drama with Kyrie. Also, speaking as a Boston native, we do have some of the worst fans on earth, in any sport - a lot of folks whose teams got done, but who still want to watch basketball, became Mavs fans overnight. There's good reason to sing Dallas' praises, I get it.
I also think that's left fans somewhat unprepared for what Boston is, and what they can do. No guarantees, of course, plenty of games to go, but people are startled bc by the tip off, a LOT of people had made it seem like Boston were underdogs, and I dont think that's accurate, or ever has been.

If the NBA counted hockey assists, and potential assists, the average fan would have a much easier time understand what Tatum does for the team. Brown, too, honestly - though when JB is on, it is very easy to understand what he's doing.
You build a team where everyone can shoot, where any of your top six guys can be The Man for a night, so that you can have everyone shoot, and any of your six top guys be The Man when you need it. The C's arent built for one guy to score 40 on the regular - they are built so that five guys score in double figures, and three of them are 20+, and everyone can play defense, all night. The games where Brown and Tatum would have been dropping 50 or 60 are over in the third, and they sit, bc being healthy, and getting reps for the bench, are more important for winning a championship. And NBA fans struggle with that in the post-Jordan era - it's not normal. It's not how the game is sold to the fans.
But, like, as a Celtics fan, it is awesome to watch. I never get tired of team basketball and defense.

One thing that folks don't want to admit is that the gap between Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown is a LOT smaller than folks want to admit. We see JT come up small in the playoffs more often than not while JB maintains that ferocity and really helps keep them afloat. JT is simply more marketable.

Every man and their dog picked apart Bostons run. Injuries, weak opponents, who’s their best player.
Yet at the same time glazed the Mavs for their run against an injured Clippers team, an over achieving Thunder team and a T’wolves team that were complete miss match for them.
Unless Dallas can get mismatches somewhere, this will be a quick series
OKC was never supposed to be the #1 seed. Injuries to Minnesota and a slumping Denver achieved that. Same thing with the Clippers not being healthy. OKC should have been the 3 or the 4 seed. Dallas beating them in a close series is not as impressive as people think.
Beating Minnesota happened because they had the match up advantage over Minnesota. They would have been crushed by Denver, who had a bad match up against Minnesota.

KP doesn't need to produce like that on offense every game. If they all bring the defensive effort, they have 5 guys that can easily score 20 any night and two guys that can get 30 (Tatum/Brown) if they need. The Mavs may have the best player in the series, these guys are right, the Celtics are just the better TEAM.

They shot UNDER their season average on 3s last night, despite hitting nearly half their 3s in the first quarter. Tatum, according to must pundits at least, had a bad game (false, but whatever). No one scored above 22. The Celtics have another gear that Luka and only Luka can match on the Mavs. This series is over, people just refuse to admit it.

Luka is struggling on defense.
@@JimBrave-ri1ocIt’s obviously not the same thing. Nobody is faulting Luka for his help defense. Of course Luka can play great help defense, if he is helping off his assignment like he did with Jaden McDaniels or Kyle Anderson. It’s his perimeter defense that is the problem. Boston is bringing him up on one-on-one switches. His lateral will never be quick enough to contain Tatum’s and Brown’s drive whether its flu game or not.
It’s the inability to contain drives that puts Dallas’s defense in rotation. That’s how Boston generates uncontested threes.
Also, Luka’s help defense isn’t any use either. All of Boston’s players including the subs are elite shooters.
If Luka doesn’t transform into Scottie Pippen tomorrow, Boston will pick on him all game long.

Clippers had no Kawhi. That was supposed to be an easy round vs Playoff chockers in Harden and PG13 and it took 6 games. Thunder are a young team who clamped up Kyrie but PJ Washington dominated and that still took 6 games.
