    Iron Mike Tyson is one of the most terrifying fighters to have ever entered the ring, having been taught by Cus D’Amato’s in his Peekaboo style of boxing. Today we are going to look at some unique drills that Tyson practiced with trainer Kevin Rooney. These drills paid off big, leading to a number of spectacular Knockouts.
    The first drill lead to multiple knockouts, and also one of the most skillful knockdowns in boxing history.

      Tyson is a boxing scholar. Cus and Mike would watch all the fights on film going back to the early days and talk about how he would have to fight to defeat them in a hypothetical scenario. Mike Tyson can recall damn near every significant fight fight round by round from the last 100 years by memory.

      He read the book that Jack D. wrote.
      Championship Fighting.
      It was a different way of throwing an upper cut.
      Hip movement is vital.
      Kind of like doing a knee. You have to posterior tilt your pelvic griddle (core strength), which is connected to the spine, which is connected to the shoulder griddle. By the time the glove hits its mark you have charged up some power. It's called summation of forces.
      The basic definition of the summation of forces is: when all body parts act simultaneously in practice, the strongest and lowest body parts around the center of gravity move first, followed by the weaker, lighter, and faster extremities.

    • @thomasdr08
      @thomasdr08 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    People seem to easily forget that Tyson was a small man in the heavyweight division.
    Both in height and weight.
    He HAD to develop a style where he could get inside on his opponent to do any damage.
    That Tyson could develop a style to get inside on far bigger men and not only land but stand right in front of them and devastate them while taking no damage himself makes Mike Tyson imo the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time.
    I mean he did the impossible.
    No other heavyweight has before or since been the smaller lighter weight heavyweight and demolished their opponents like Tyson.
    You add in things like Mike had severe asthma and HAD top end his fights early or he'd have an asthma attack and it gets even crazier with what he accomplished.

      @roberthamilton8024 5 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      He was 220 pounds fool. Holyfield only weighed 208 pounds for a long portion of his Heavyweight career. Most folks think Tyson lies about his height but I know for a fact he is just a smidge under 6 foot. Same height as Frazier. 1.5 inches shorter than Ali, 40 pounds heavier than Marciano and almost 2 inches taller than Marciano. 6 foot 5 inch heavyweights were a rarity in those days. Most of them were 5 foot 10 inches to 6 foot 2 inches at that time with a very few larger than that. Do some research before spouting out things you are clearly not educated on.

      @@ClickClack_Bam the size thing, I happen to think men who are around 6ft give or take a inch or 2, and around 200lbs, give or take 10 or 20lbs, is the best overall size for combination of strength agility and speed. Many of the heavyweights considered to be the best are that size across multiple combat sports. You got guys like Marciano, holyfield, Joe Fraizer, Cain Velasquez, Fedor, Randy Coulture, and many other greats at that 6'2 220lb range. Of course there are monsters like Lennox, Lesnar, and George Formean who have their day, but I am always surprised at how many times these giants get destroyed by 6'2 220lbs guys with a great game plan.
      Now, the issue with Tyson is he destroyed a lot of no name nobodies... name one great boxer Tyson beat.... I dont remember the name of one single boxer Tyson was able to beat.
      I could name 5 or 6 great boxers Muhammad Ali defeated. Guys like Joe Frazier and George Foreman all deserve to be on the list of greatest heavyweights of all time, and Ali beat them all.
      Everytime single time Tyson fought someone with a name, he lost....
      Look at clips of Joe Fraizer who I think had the most similar style to Tyson...
      But a great boxing historian once said...
      "Joe Frazier is a mile wide and a mile deep... while Mike Tyson is a mile wide but only 1 inch deep.."

He also stopped leading with that pile driver of a jab that set him up for so much more and his killer body shots dropped by 70%. He began throwing 1 punch combos looking for easy knockouts. Tyson was notorious for training incredibly hard for every fight he ever had except for the Douglas fight which he only trained 8 days. So you claiming he stopped training is 100% wrong. Even his opponents to this day say he was a driven training machine. He got lazy against Douglas though but that was the only time in his career he did not train for a fight properly.

    I come back and watch this video every so often and it honestly brings me close to tears everytime. Watching Prime Tyson fights is a transcendental experience. To see a man move with such intent, purpose, and power, it's a kind of control and mastery of the body and mind that most of us will never experience. He was like a walking flow state back then. It's great to know that all these years later he's really started to tame his psychology too, considering the mental hell he went through. He's like a 21st century sage, and like all the best sages, you'd never tell from the surface. Wisdom that's more alike to scripture than to an encyclopedia, and I'm not a religious man.

Who he is today, makes him one of the most inspiring characters of my life! I've always had compassion for this man even when he was at his worst. Something about him that made me understand his rage and emotion. However, I've always said that after he left Rooney, things went down hill, which sometimes needs to happen for people until they find their authentic selves and can live in peace. I'm not sure if that's ever truly possible but I really dig Mike through all his life that I've witnessed.

      He didn't peak early we never got to see his full potential. Unfortunately after cus died he didn't have the best people in his camp.
      Peak tyson would've still had his crazy peekaboo style but cus or a new good trainer would had him adapt around the fighters who's trainers clued in on how the foot work os a death trap if you don't know how to counter it. Why tyson lost to dudes who then lost to dudes tyson has easily beaten. Tyson was kinda like Ali more unique style very perfected that you needed to actively counter.
      Problem is, if tyson had simply thrown in South paw stance or something similar and switched up his peekaboo slips for a move open Bob and weave Ali style but still staying tight ish or switching between more open and tight he could've easily adapted his style kept the foot work concept but had all the angles and set ups to come at you with.
      Plus give his planted foot work which helped his power and his speed. A peek fully trained out tyson would've been a much better fighter than what we saw towards the end of his career.
      Also would've had the edge of upping his peekaboo style as far as less unneeded movements with better accuracy with slipping in that tight position.
      Imagine tyson stepping off to the same right side he did but this time it was his power hand throwing fast south paw strikes to the head with a cross that prevents you from firing back and then a full power body mechanics left into the body.
      Or switching for the left side and using his fast power hand for shit.
