99.9% of people would have been dead by the end of this fight. Ribalta’s toughness is incredible. He gritted his teeth and ate some of the strongest punches that pro boxing has ever seen. And the best part is that he was never knocked out. He was knocked on his ass multiple times, but he refused to lose consciousness. Insane physical and mental fortitude.

Pure steroids you mean. You can't be that heavy while being that small AND that muscular at the same time. Rule of thumb: if you exceed your height in cm -100 by more than 5kg, but still don't look fat, you're 99% on steroids! So for Tyson, anything beyond 83kg would be suspicious. He was even beyond a 100 and looked pretty lean nonetheless! He was 100% on steroids!

Yes he was considering that the heavyweight division was full of cupcakes. His record is full of bums and guys past their prime. Yet when he fights legit fighters he lost. Had he continued to fight the way Cus taught him it might have been different. From his loss to Buster which he got out boxed he was a head hunter and nothing more. I know buster was counted out…but boxing is crooked and they didn’t call it so it’s a mute point.

I can't believe this guy didn't get more credit for being the only living punching bag for Mike Tyson. The sound of those hits were insane. Mike's sparring partners didn't want to spar with him but this guy took 10 rounds of Tysons strongest. Unreal.

It really demonstrates Tyson's freakish level of fitness that throughout the fight he was relentlessly throwing power punches. A single 3 minute round of punching mitts in boxing classes can stuff lots of people and those aren't punches that could knock out a heavyweight. Big punching, time after time after time, for 10 rounds is unbelievably grueling, but Tyson didn't even look puffed. What an incredible athlete.
It stuffs most people. Even moving around for three minutes while keeping one's arms up the entire time and not throwing a single punch, but just making a conscious effort to keep the arms up and moving them from side to side and moving one's head in different directions at the same time is taxing when one hasn't practiced it frequently. Boxers are great endurance athletes.
100%. When I go to the gym I hit the bag because it's exhausting and excellent cardio. Five minutes against just a bag -- which isn't hitting back -- is more grueling than a half hour on a treadmill. Tyson was a complete machine.
There's a certain moment in Mike's matches where his opponents realize they've entered the ring with Death. You can see it in Ribalta's eyes early on. But the man just kept getting back up over and over again. Can't give enough props to the man with that much physical and mental toughness.

Even Tyson had a special neck training to prevent knock out... Check his Neck size and compared it with his oponents... What gets me is the sound of a whiffed punch, that I'd argue is actually really telling not to mention terrifying. At 5:03 it sounds like a speeding car, every impact of a landed punch is the crash, but with the whiff you get such a sense of how insane his momentum is.

It's amazing watching reels from fights from a time I wasn't even alive in. Had me standing out of my seat, I couldn't believe my eyes. The power, speed, stamina and concentration was like something out of legend. Watching Tyson fight in his prime motivates me like nothing else, impeccable.

A lot of people remember Tyson in his prime for aggression and early knockdowns. But he was a far far more skilful boxer than he’s usually given credit for. He got the early knockdowns because he usually chose the right punch/combination. Had fantastic instincts and knew when to go for the kill. As fast as he was powerful too.

Whole portions of his body going numb and only registering the punches coming after the first few by the sound of the jackhammer thudd when they connected.

The Ribalta fight, for me, is Tyson's most-underappreciated and one of my favorites. It showcases all of Tyson's strengths: combos, slipping, countering. If you want the best fight to watch to analyze Tyson in-depth, I think Ribalta is top 3.

Ribalta took a beating beyond beatings, going 10 rounds with Tyson in his prime is a world class feat even if you were just a punching bag for most of it.
In all seriousness, about every single one of those punches by Tyson looked like it would kill someone. I mean the shear speed and force when his punches make contact would put the pause button and game over screen on just about anyone. To even last 10 rounds being pummeled like that is incredible.

Absolute ferocity from Tyson. Moreorless Prime here. Got to give Ribalta huge credit. I genuinely don’t know how he got up after the hook / uppercut combo and those body shots…..! A very brave guy and tremendously resilient. I also loved the way Tyson would handle himself in after match interviews and just in general, in those prime years. Before he became this raging confrontational beast that had become angry and embittered by his treatment at the hands of Don King, Robin Givens and all the others, he was a courteous and respectful professional. Hugely knowledgeable and with a very humble outlook. Much like he became in later life as an older man. What an amazing life he’s had.
I remember watching this video a year ago when I was struggling.. Seeing this has brought tears to my eyes. I live much different life now and this video is still here to remind me of how far I have come. Never give up in life. No condition is permanent

Man, you’ve got to really appreciate seeing Tyson at the tip top of his reign. I was 10 years old when this fight took place and can remember me and my dad watching it together. That was a great time to be a fan of sports, with people like Tyson and Michael Jordon performing at god-tier lol.

Tyson was defeated mentally before entering the ring. And Holyfield? Tyson was already starting to decline at this point of his career. Kevin Rooney was fired by Tyson because Rooney was minding Mike’s business too much about his marriage with Robin Givens. Rooney knew what was best for Tyson and Rooney knew Givens was ruining Tyson’s head and that she was trash. But Tyson was p whooped and didn’t listen to Rooney and didn’t like Rooney telling him what to do, so Tyson fired Rooney. Kevin Rooney kept Tyson’s skills sharp under everything Cus D Amato taught Tyson. Kevin kept Tyson under Cus’s coaching in head movement and slipping and pivoting movements…….but when Tyson fired Rooney he shot himself in the foot without realizing it. Tyson slowly devolved with less slipping and head movements to becoming more of just a brawler and puncher. If you watch Tyson against in his series of fights against Razor Ruddock…………you’ll see he was just going out there and slugging it out with a lot less defense and slipping punches……….then when he met Holyfield……….he was even worse……….And besides, Holyfield was clinching too many times in both fights………he was afraid too exchange with Mike………so he clinched and waited for Mike to tire out before he started punching or spending himself. I didn’t give Holyfield credit for those wins, he mostly clinched Tyson. That’s why Tyson bit his ear due to the frustration of the clinching. If Holyfield wanted to fight instead of hugging Tyson would of had no anger or opportunity to bite his ear 👂. Tyson did it out of frustration due to all the clinching Holyfield did.

99.9% of people would have been dead by the end of this fight. Ribalta’s toughness is incredible. He gritted his teeth and ate some of the strongest punches that pro boxing has ever seen. And the best part is that he was never knocked out. He was knocked on his ass multiple times, but he refused to lose consciousness. Insane physical and mental fortitude.

It really demonstrates Tyson's freakish level of fitness that throughout the fight he was relentlessly throwing power punches. A single 3 minute round of punching mitts in boxing classes can stuff lots of people and those aren't punches that could knock out a heavyweight. Big punching, time after time after time, for 10 rounds is unbelievably grueling, but Tyson didn't even look puffed. What an incredible athlete.
It stuffs most people. Even moving around for three minutes while keeping one's arms up the entire time and not throwing a single punch, but just making a conscious effort to keep the arms up and moving them from side to side and moving one's head in different directions at the same time is taxing when one hasn't practiced it frequently. Boxers are great endurance athletes.

There's a certain moment in Mike's matches where his opponents realize they've entered the ring with Death.
You can see it in Ribalta's eyes early on. But the man just kept getting back up over and over again. Can't give enough props to the man with that much physical and mental toughness.

Mike Tyson used a new boxing training system, wich included working and focusing more on speed and endurance, that´s why he is fresh on round 10 and moves like Bruce Lee. Even Tyson had a special neck training to prevent knock out... Check his Neck size and compared it with his oponents... Tyson was ahead at its time, thats why is called the best boxer of all history. 😁

I don't think I've ever seen anyone take that many power punches and live, especially from Tyson. got to give Ribalta credit, he definitely has heart and a good chin, but props to Tyson for remaining professional post fight.

Wow. I've seen Tyson's fights before, but when he got frustrated that his opponent was so tough, he really put on an impressive display. There's nothing you can do against a man like that, no matter what size you are. Delivering some of the world's most powerful blows and being able to do it all match.

The Ribalta fight, for me, is Tyson's most-underappreciated and one of my favorites. It showcases all of Tyson's strengths: combos, slipping, countering. If you want the best fight to watch to analyze Tyson in-depth, I think Ribalta is top 3.

Ribalta took a beating beyond beatings, going 10 rounds with Tyson in his prime is a world class feat even if you were just a punching bag for most of it.
In all seriousness, about every single one of those punches by Tyson looked like it would kill someone. I mean the shear speed and force when his punches make contact would put the pause button and game over screen on just about anyone. To even last 10 rounds being pummeled like that is incredible.

Ribalta has some chin that's for sure! I think even Tyson said he was shocked at how he just kept getting back up. One of my favourite fights that's for sure!

Mad respect to Ribalta for jumping up after that massive uppercut that would have ended most opponents. The fact he made it through so many rounds with Mike in his prime is a testament in itself. Even Tyson gave him the respect he deserved after the match.
Never seen this fight before. The amount of punishment absorbed by Ribalta and he still came back for more is just staggering. Holy crap! Just one of those punches would have sent me to an alternative universe.

Absolute ferocity from Tyson. Moreorless Prime here. Got to give Ribalta huge credit. I genuinely don’t know how he got up after the hook / uppercut combo and those body shots…..! A very brave guy and tremendously resilient. I also loved the way Tyson would handle himself in after match interviews and just in general, in those prime years. Before he became this raging confrontational beast that had become angry and embittered by his treatment at the hands of Don King, Robin Givens and all the others, he was a courteous and respectful professional. Hugely knowledgeable and with a very humble outlook. Much like he became in later life as an older man. What an amazing life he’s had.

Man, you’ve got to really appreciate seeing Tyson at the tip top of his reign. I was 10 years old when this fight took place and can remember me and my dad watching it together. That was a great time to be a fan of sports, with people like Tyson and Michael Jordon performing at god-tier lol.

Tyson was so in love with Robin Givens and she totally ruined his head before that fight. Mike was going through the divorce or started the proceedings? Look at Mike’s face while he was walking out of the locker room toward the ring against Douglas……….his mind was blank about fighting. He wasn’t focused at all. And Douglas was more focused on this fight more than any other. Douglas mother had passed and he was focused on winning for his mother. Tyson wasn’t focused on winning or fighting or nothing. Tyson was defeated mentally before entering the ring. And Holyfield? Tyson was already starting to decline at this point of his career. His skills weren’t as sharp like they were while he was under Kevin Rooney, his coach. Kevin Rooney was fired by Tyson because Rooney was minding Mike’s business too much about his marriage with Robin Givens. Rooney knew what was best for Tyson and Rooney knew Givens was ruining Tyson’s head and that she was trash. But Tyson was p whooped and didn’t listen to Rooney and didn’t like Rooney telling him what to do, so Tyson fired Rooney. Kevin Rooney kept Tyson’s skills sharp under everything Cus D Amato taught Tyson. Kevin kept Tyson under Cus’s coaching in head movement and slipping and pivoting movements…….but when Tyson fired Rooney he shot himself in the foot without realizing it. Tyson slowly devolved with less slipping and head movements to becoming more of just a brawler and puncher. If you watch Tyson against in his series of fights against Razor Ruddock…………you’ll see he was just going out there and slugging it out with a lot less defense and slipping punches……….then when he met Holyfield……….he was even worse……….And besides, Holyfield was clinching too many times in both fights………he was afraid too exchange with Mike………so he clinched and waited for Mike to tire out before he started punching or spending himself. I didn’t give Holyfield credit for those wins, he mostly clinched Tyson. That’s why Tyson bit his ear due to the frustration of the clinching. If Holyfield wanted to fight instead of hugging Tyson would of had no anger or opportunity to bite his ear 👂. Tyson did it out of frustration due to all the clinching Holyfield did.
