    Hi I have only one pumpkin and it started going yellow about three weeks ago, is that when I can pick it? I want to keep the seeds for re seeding so how do I know/tell if the pumpkin is ripe and ready

    what's the phytate ? Sounds a lil nasty. ( eating ) pumpkin seeds so expensive to buy. linssed n pumpkin seed sounds like Power food combo

      Well well, here's a reply six years later.
      I wondered the same. They are a derivative of phytic acid, and I can't find any reputable evidence that they are bad for you. You can't digest them, that's all. I do soak my pumpkin seeds after harvest, but just to remove some of the mucilage around the seeds, to reduce drying time.

    Why are these seeds are called Austrian?

      It's actually more commonly called Styrian or Styrian Hulless - it was developed in Austria's Styria province!
