No no no! I would never again do integrated sinks. They’re great when new but when they go bad, you have to replace the countertops too before needed. I will only use undermount sinks now. This happened in our kitchen and one of our bathroom sinks.
What issues would you anticipate? I’ve been drooling too over the look. So sleek!
@@carolyn6990 Our sinks had little cracks, disgusting, etc. But since they were attached to the counters we couldn’t just replace the sinks. I consulted with contractors to see if they could be cut out, but no.
We are building our home so just installed new cabinets. I saw that the flat front cabinets were coming on trend and I tried to like them but I hate them (they are just too modern for me). I knew that shaker was making it's way out but I don't care, I was a lover of shaker before it was a thing and I still am so I put the shaker in. I will just have to be out of style for 10 years 🤣
Stick to what you love, coz it’s your space to enjoy!
Shaker happening in my kitchen, too, plus my cabinets are gray (I ordered them that way.) Oh, well! I love them and so does everyone who sees my kitchen. I had flat/slab cabs in my first house… in 1979! 😮
You must be extremely old considering Shaker is from the 1700's lol. Jk :) love Shaker
I had an integrated sink and I will never again do that- when something happens to the sink, it also happens to your countertops. Kitchens are SO expensive to redo- forget the trends, go TIMELESS. More beautiful, imo, and timelessness is so much more intentional and ultimately, expensive.
A marble sink is not a good idea because marble is prone to stains, cracks, and scratches, making defects more visible over time….
And yet many people love that worn in look. To each their own.
Why would I want to have a porous contertop? Is it to signal that I was so rich that I never cook?
A friend has a beautiful house with dark wood flat front cabinets. I don’t know how old the house is, but her kitchen was amazing 15 years ago and I’m sure it is now.
How to clean marble integrated sink in a kitchen? Looks beautiful but practical????
I did marble in my bathroom and regret it!
Walnut wood cabinets are gorgeous!
Dark wood tones, like walnut, are DEFINITELY coming in.
Always fun seeing Jack with you! I love integrated sinks, but I worry about stains absorbing into stone sinks in the kitchen (especially marble). We re-did our kitchen last year, and I opted for a black undermount Kohler neoroc sink. It looks seamless with our black granite countertops. Definitely agree that those builder-grade honey-colored cabinets just won't go away! I still see them in current real estate listings...ugh! Hooray for dark wood cabinets! My parents had a home built in 1968, and the kitchen cabinets were tall, wood-grain, slab front!☺This trend brings back memories!
That's a really good way to get the look of integrated without being locked into one large piece, love it!
Jack should get husband of year award. I love change. Keep it fresh ❤
I don’t think shaker will go out of style - like white and subway tile. It’s a classic.
They'll never go completely out of style but they won't be something that are asking for when they look at new kitchens.
@@HouseofValentina I am asking for them for my new kitchen lol.
@@roxysimmons me too! Classic.
Not on style doesn't mean SOME people will still be asking for those things. Subway and white are as basic as you can get and not in a good way.
@@rmcar549 that's just snobbery.
The pictures of the kitchens you showed are absolutely beautiful but I question the practicality of marble and travertine sinks. I agree with so many of the small suggestions you made as well but I think you missed one free upgrade. Moving as much off of the counters as possible makes the room feel lighter and fresher. Thanks for all the tips! BTW, I love how you and Jack had coordinating outfits!
I’m painting my 90’s, golden oak, cathedral style, cabinets while I save up for a complete remodel. I also have that tan, speckled, 90’s, granite. I will be spending weeks painting these cabinets just to tear them out in a few years. It’s a must. I just can’t stand the golden oak for another minute. It’s beyond dated.
You won’t regret it. It will make you happy. We did the same during COVID and just now doing our renovation , we couldn’t be happier
Love this video! I’m not a big fan of travertine. I had it in my kitchen before renovation. It’s very porous and absorbs oil. I also had it in my primary bathroom before reno and water will go straight through it!
Actually, a lot of current trends are timeless; slab fronts (simple to look at and easier to clean), slab backsplashes (no grout lines, so easier to clean), cabinets that go to the ceiling, no hardware... Building a kitchen in 2024 can be pretty classic as long as you stay clear of trendy colours and choose the wood tone you like (it will inevitably go out of style and eventually come back again, so choose according to your taste and not what's in fashion).
While every house we looked at in 2021 had white shaker style kitchens, I did not want that and every one thought I was crazy for picking walnut slab front cabinets without handles and grey black horned marble. Once my kitchen was done everyone likes it but everyone made me feel crazy for choosing this style at first. I am glad I stuck to my ideas coz I love it.
Good for you for not settling for that basic shaker and white theme. If I see it one more time I'm gonna scream!!
How would you do an ikea kitchen like this? That would be a great video.
Would love to see you do an IKEA kitchen design, even if just as a design board, or demo doing it with the IKEA kitchen design software.
I'm building a new home in Ft. Worth and just finished up selections at the design center. Shaker cabinets are definitely, rapidly trending out here. People are going for the slab or back to traditional raised panel cabinets. I went with the raised panels in Tricorn Black...will be gorgeous.
That sounds absolutely beautiful.
You two are a hoot! We just moved to Kentucky and they are 25 years behind the times. We are in desperate need of a Kitchen Remodel. I looked up local Designer's websites, and in their galleries you cant tell the 'befores' from the 'afters!'
So true! 😂
I also have a flat kitchen cabinet , 12 years ago I couldn’t decide between flat and shakers, I went for flat because it’s easy to clean .
Probably a good choice!
I LOVE dark cabinets! On trend or not😂😂😂
I just painted my lower cabinets Behr’s Carbon black in high gloss. So amazing.
What a beautiful story !!! Thank you for sharing ❤❤
I'm very inspired since I'm doing an entire kitchen remodel! This was so helpful. By the way, you remind me of a Princess and Prince Charming!
It's great when Jack does the videos with you. He always makes you laugh. That's so wonderful to have that kind of relationship. I Loved this video! So many great ideas to do updates on a budget. I put in a new kitchen 11 years ago. I did use light wood cabinets, (solid wood) and I was wondering if I could incorporate new cabinet and drawer fronts? What do you think? I need to get a new countertop and new lighting as well. Love all of your ideas! Thank you for bringing us this video. 😊❤
As a person who used to sell kitchens matt black is something I would not recommend, why well because fingerprints matt colours show up grease and finger prints massively, also anything white will oxidize yellow so the best is natural and neutral colours
I just painted my lower cabinets Behr’s Carbon black in high gloss. It is a better idea. It’s an indoor/outdoor paint. So it can handle the abuse and moisture. I can fix scuffs with a sharpie.
My favorite designer!! Love you guys.
Thank you so much!
Two years ago I remodeled my kitchen and installed flat cabinets without hardware. So glad they are trending and Val approved! I watched all your videos for the other features like countertop, backsplash as well. You were on trend then, as you are now.
It would be great if you could do a video on incorporating sustainable ideas in design and decor. Thanks!
Integrated sinks…be careful some don’t have the emergency drain hole and if the drain stopper fails and the tap is accidentally left on, house flooding could occur! Happened to our bathroom sink! Terrible
Im not a fan of the flat front wood cabinets , also sharp corner sinks are hard to clean but i appreciate you videos always !
Thanks for watching!
Yes! We got rid of our 80’s “in your face” kitchen cabinets by sanding to the wood and painted! It looks so much better!
Perfect timing! I am designing my kitchen renovation right now, hoping to finish bye d of summer.
Wow, that's awesome Rita! Congrats!
Farm house became huge and it didn’t feel like me. Minimal flat front cabinets don’t feel like me either. I’m glad I was renovating for the first time neatly between these two trends going and coming, and choose things that I love but in a combination that you don’t see duplicated again and again.
I'm doing black slab front cabinets with polished nickel pulls. I'm also doing matte black bathroom fixtures. I'm not a fan of shiny chrome and I absolutely hate brass in all forms. I love a lot of these trends.💜
I did a slab front cabinet 15 years ago in my old house & I’m doing the kitchen in my house now & staying with slab front. It’s my favorite & gives a mid century vibe. It’s timeless.
I'd stain not paint old wood
Good to know.
You guys are so cute.
Love your taste.
I like the stone sinks, but the corners are difficult to clean. It would be a go if the corners were rounded.
Good, good show.
Love seeing Jack join you on your you tube channel❤
I love you and Jack...it is so fun to watch you both!! I always learn so much
any ideas of trends for the master bedroom? I would like to buy new furniture on a budget, and I love your style
i am in the middle of a remodel and decided on frameless slim (3/4 inch) shaker white oak cabinets. best of both worlds if you ask me. crossing fingers i like it. cabinet install is happening today! :-)
Love travertine love love jacks hair cut ❤😊
Love your videos together. This was a really useful video - thanks! 🙏
I love marble I enjoy traveltine and all stones it's sharp, marvelous also timeless ,beautiful
Always informative!!! V/Jack, I’ll give you guys a standing ovation.. clap..clap.. thx for sharing, I’m already ready for the next one. Blessings!!!
I LOVE my Ikea kitchen, and never want a different brand!
I just love the videos you and Jack to together, so much FUN! :)
Love the idea that you can make some changes for a big impact instead of waiting till you can fully renovate! Please tell me where I can get your kitchen stools!
I love to see your videos with both of you. Love your style.
I did flat front ikea with those finger bar things from your picture. My laundry room is awesome now.
I love your ideas... have been adding things slowly. Travertine is my fav, but now have marble, wood and black. Thank you for the inspiration!!
Good video on trends. These trends are def not for me. I don’t like the slab look. It lacks personality and warmth for me. Will be doing a kitchen renovation next year so will def need to come up with a non slab plan.
👍love the new kitchen trends&tips thank you both.
Yes, I had a travertine back splash in my old house 20 yrs ago.
The trough style sinks remind me of rest stop bathrooms.🤢
Trough sinks are the worst idea. A big splashy area and no counter space for anything.
Love the slab front cabinets!
i love the interim music. Thank you!
Love you guys
Integrated marble sinks are difficult to keep clean and look sad in short time. Not a trend that will last.
I just re did my kitchen and I didn’t do any of these trends; but I do love my kitchen anyway!
Valentina, the most beautiful thing on your videos is your natural beauty. Am serious!!!! So glad to see a woman that hasn't changed her appearance with all that fake filler crap!!! CONGRATS!!!!
We just finished building our house in January and put in painted, shaker style cabinets 😭
This is me w the gray flooring🫣 so ill throw a rug on it lol. But shaker cabinets are still beautiful i have them too
Grey floors go great with jute rugs … which is perfect for summer in my opinion.
Thank you! Gray flooring still looks nice too :)
I have a black quartz sink and absolutely love it...❤
Perfect timing, redoing our kitchen right now!
That's awesome!
Lovely trend. Sleek and smooth. ❤
So Exciting !!!😄 Yum a liscious !
I think the integrated sinks would be expensive.
I love your jacket you are wearing! Is there a link? Didn’t see it on LTK. thanks
OK, so last August when my first bought my mid century home, these are the ideas that I wanted for my kitchen all of them. I still haven’t done my kitchen, but I’m so glad that I was on the right track a year later
I never even knew slab kitchen cabinets were or weren’t a trend. I have been doing white slab cabinets with black countertops for years because it never goes out of style. That style may not always look trendy but it is timeless. In my opinion, the things that date kitchen cabinets are: 1) the style of the face frame; 2) grain, stain and type of wood. So I concluded that the way to avoid the face frame and wood problem was to go with white painted slabs. Since too much white in a kitchen has always looked strange to me, I go with black countertop with black drawer pulls and black stainless steel appliances. I looked at pictures of a kitchen I had remodeled two houses ago back in 2011 and that kitchen still looks stylish. I attribute it to the white slab cabinets and black countertops
It’s like Jack just showed up for this conversation 😂
The look of an integrated sink is great, but the practicality really isn't. The straight edges make cleaning harder in all those 90 degree edges, draining is harder, and should you ever damage it, you can't just pop in a new sink. They could be better if designed more practically, but so far, they haven't been. Cool look when new though! The travertine is nice, but it sure stains easily. I'd be cautious to use that in the kitchen. I love a flat-front cabinet door for cleaning ease, though style-wise, it's lacking interest, so I'm mixed with it. I don't love the skinny pulls that go with them as they catch on your clothes and are harder to use as you need to pinch down and that can be difficult for some. I like the look, but not the practicality. I'd prefer a push to open feature instead with a magnet type thing. No hardware outside needed and you can open it with your knee if your hands are full or the cutout for the fingers to grab into. lol I can go either way on wood grain or painted cabinets. Depends on the kitchen really. I like them both if the kitchen calls for it. I don't care much about trends, I just do what I love that I'm pretty sure I'll love forever and that's what I go with. lol
Practicality in a kitchen rules
What about inset cabinetry? I am seeing a lot mre of that instead of shaker.
Love your videos. Off topic question... what size is the RH pot over your right shoulder. 15, 17, 19 inch? I purchased that olive tree a while back and like the way it looks in that size pot but I'm not sure what size to look for. TIA
Ugh, travertine! I've had to rip it out of every house I've lived in. Sorry to see the ultra-trendy material is coming back. Also, it's impossible to keep clean.
nope on the interated sinks the sharp sides/corners grow mold.
I like looking at trends. Hiwever, I have my own eclectic style. (Afro-Bohemian) I've now downsized to a 550 square foot apartment.
What would you do with the stone countertop edges? I like the slab front cabinets a lot, but I don’t want my whole kitchen to be too flat.
Traverine floors were a nightmare to keep clean. The pits & divots collect dirt & mops don’t get it out. Are you going to steam clean your counters?
LOVE LOVE LOVE the look of travertine but not the upkeep.
Same! I have travertine tile floor in my kitchen and I'm sure it looked beautiful when it was new but the high traffic areas have worn so, so badly and there's nothing we can do to fix it and we were told to rip out the entire floor. No pets, no shoes worn in the house. This is just from normal use of the space.
@@be9988 The only thing I found that worked was a steam mop. It gets the guck out of the pits. I would mop first then steam, but you shouldn’t have to double clean your floors. When i built our current house I made sure the flooring had no pits!!
Love your content! Please can we have a channel from your husband for men’s clothing, decor, lifestyle, etc?
Hurry up and do your kitchen so I can copy it!
Just in time! I’m thinking of a kitchen demo/reno!
Agree with light changes
Hi Jack
My favourite ppl,pls don't keep us waiting for long for another video.I think i have serious issue i keep checking if you have loaded a new video 😓...YT is not YOUTUBING if u dont post.
Ha, that’s so awesome!
But she put out a video 4 days ago.
@@RitaVernoy it not that deep,I was expressing my enjoyment of tuning in.I know it takes time and attention to make the videos,it much appreciated V
I feel the same! Thanks for clarification.
I redesigned my kitchen 2 years ago. I bought IKEA cabinets in black and I love it.
Valentina, any thoughts on which way the grain of the wood ‘should’ run? I prefer vertical but is horizontal going to be a thing?
Yes integrated!!!😊
I just painted my lower cabinets Behr’s Carbon black in high gloss. No regrets.
Like a farmhouse style sink because it’s easier on my back. I am 5’2”, and that sink front countertop piece forces me to bend in a way that hurts my upper back.
If you dont mind me asking, what shade of black/finish is your fireplace? It's absolutely beautiful!
Your kitchen is gorgeous! Not only is travertine popular now, but people are going with more stone other than just granite or quartz. Quartizte, dolomite, soapstone are some alternatives people are using!
I have a travertine bathroom top and bottom, I can’t believe they’re back! FYI - travertine is easy to clean
Such a good point!
Love wood grain cabinets. I have walnut floors, having a hard time knowing what color of wood grain to use. What would you do??
I have wanted slab front just because EZ to keep clean.
Valentina, what do you think of laminate/ formica?
Switching out countertops not expensive??
I'm remodeling right now. Taking some of the suggestions. Keeping the renovation around 23,000. No moving of plumbing or electricity. i’m doing stainless steel and champagne, brass finishes, white and natural wood cabinets. not the fanciest remodel, but it’s gonna make a big difference in my house. I’m not for sure if I’m gonna live here forever.
Can you do a video on lighting for every room that you recommend
I like everything you mentioned, it is a more streamlined look in all of the examples. I appreciate what you share by telling the truth. I have been looking for a home for one year, just a couple weeks ago I had an opportunity come to me for a brand new build. It is not a custom build, a model one. They did give a few options to choose different styles as well as I made a few upgrades. There were two choices of cabinetry and the shaker style was the more updated look, so that’s what I’m getting. It doesn’t hurt my feelings one bit if it’s not in style or on trend, it was the better option. You are blessed to have a husband so willing to make improvements and not complain about the inconvenience or the budget.
