When you have kids sometimes you put up what makes me happy to celebrate the holidays and the seasons. Even now I have one Halloween wreath that normally isn't my style with fake candy corn, but it makes me smile. It's okay to lighten up.
I have a Steuben Bowl with shells that lives on my table during summer. It’s my 1 beachy thing in my desert home. I love it. So many things look beautiful in a Steuben bowl.
I do love an on point 4th of July decorated house with the flags, swags, red, white and blue plates, napkins, dishtowels, etc. To me it celebrates the pride and joy we have of our country
Completely agree. I don’t think it’s meant for just one day. I think it’s lovely to show that you are grateful to be here and take pride in caring for your community. 🇺🇸
When you have a lot of little kids, you will sometimes decorate in ways that are more vibrant and fun vs elegant and sophisticated 😂 As they grow and mature, your decor will mature naturally
Funny seashell story. When our friend was a small boy visiting Grandma at Key West, he collected a bucket full of shells and put them in his room. In the morning, there were snails all over the walls! Needless to say, Grandma wasn't happy. So be careful collecting shells as they may still be someone's home!😂🐚🐌
HOLD ON ... I'm completely distracted by JACKS HAIR!!! LOVE IT!! You look SO good with that natural, relaxed salt and pepper Jack! Papa-Chic for sure!! Now... Gotta go back and rewatch!😁
I’m going to defend my floral door wreath. LOL. We live outside of Denver at 6000 ft and summer, meaning consistent temps of 80-90, don’t begin til the second week of June. We are so desperate for color!! We also have the cuteness of, but flower eating, deer. There are very few flowering plants that they don’t seem to love. I’ve also learned that certain flowers they’re not supposed to like, if they’re short on food…..😅
*Summer Palette* . My Summer color palette is very classic New England; Light Denim, Navy, white and Khaki. Stripes are my pattern of choice and water hyacinth baskets and trays are my texture along with linen for curtains and pillow covers. It's the most minimal seasonal styling that I do. My garden is the showstopper. Blue and White feels crisp, clean and calm to me. I'll go back to dark and moody in the Fall.
I LOVE AMERICA, too! I'm in an apt, and I put out a red white and blue star on my door that lights up.😊 i also have live plants out on the side of my door and on my patio that looks out to the pool. But not really anything inside. I do have 2 fossils that stay out year round. I put out a real conch in summer, and that's enough.
They’re okay, just not the fake plants that fade in the sun, or dead flowers that are bad energy. Dried plants are okay as long as they look similar to when they were alive. So grasses or the like should be fine.
I enjoy your videos and have learned a lot about my style since I started watching. I am saddened by the comments where some are removing the items as this is one area where I dont agree. I think holidays can be tastefully decorated, I dont see the difference in storing a few items in a small bin compared to rugs, etc. I love swapping out or mixing in some decor items to celebrate certain holidays/seasons. Wreaths on my house during Fall and Christmas are fake as due to allergies, i can't do real.
I agree with you @kim8211. While I respect their opinions, I love my wreaths and how they make my home look. I do have decor for different seasons. I believe that one should use/purchase what makes them happy and not be criticized if you enjoy doing things a little differently. Just enjoy what you enjoy! :)
I am totally with you on the word signs and seashells. I especially cringe at shells because they not only look like clutter but they always seem to be dusty and kinda icky. But I do live my faux flower door wreath! I get compliments on it all the time 😁
I have SO MANY bins of decor and I’m slowly whittling it down to just some Fall and Christmas decor bins that I can use over and over each year. It feels good to be more purposeful about decor. P.S. Jack I loved your Dad Joke 😂
Tiny lots of shells out have been out of my house for years for same reasons! Jack's new hair style is cute and looks great! Thank you for recording even on vacation. Enjoy Mikonos!
Yes I agree essentially went I live in a apartment went I move out I saw a lot of stuff decorations from each holiday and my apartment is small and now I like less simple decor I could use all year round and switch thing because it get to comfortable and welcome now thank you for the advice 👍🏼😃
To me summer decor is a couple of blue and white temple jars and some light green greenery/ferns with white hydrangeas in a white room with some blue and white textiles. Less is more. Great hair cut, Jack!
I thought you were going to warn us about buying nicknacks on our vacations. 😅 I never kept those things that I bought in different places, or countries, when I was younger. I also think shells are a bit kliché to decorate with, but if you collected them it can be more of a sentimental thing and you can keep them. I have a cone formed high vase with stones I collected during all my life. A few shells are there as well. So it might be kliché and a bit clutted, but I still keep them. 😊 I love to walk at the beach and sometimes choose a stone, if I am somewhere special. My husband once asked about throwing them away when I moved into his apartment. He did not understand why I packed stones. 😂 But later on he took a closer look at them. After that he sometimes found a lovely stone when we were on vacations together, and picked it for me. I actually felt that to be so romantic. To me it is worth more than diamonds. It is one of a kind and is hand picked by him at a lovely place we have been. When you decorate a high end home you should not go for small stones or shells, and you are right about the rest as well. But people in general are probably breaking most of these rules. I wish you a lovely vacation!
Ευχαριστώ! I agree with all. I heard it’s bad luck to remove seashells from a beach, if people weren’t already convinced it’s not a good look for decor.
I 100% agree with everything you listed in this video. I have a similar thought process for a change of seasons, I remove a few of the darker vases and replace them with lighter ones, move the cozy blanket off the library sofa and replace it with the light cotton, replace the darker pillows with lighter ones and that's about it. Just those small touches make the house feel so much lighter and more open. Then when cold weather season sets in I switch them back and it feels all warm and cozy again. PS, this is my favorite type of video you do, when you say either what not to do or what you do think should be done. It lets me know if I'm on track and also often gives me some inspiration. Thank you and I hope you have/had a fabulous vacation
I live watching designers with diff taste than I have. I always appreciate diff perspectives. The fun thing is taking the little bits and pieces that you do like and applying them to your home. I will never be lux but I certainly can appreciate the luxury look and I think it’s beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
I couldn't agree with you more I think why people decorate with that type of decor is because it's cheap I'd rather by that one thing i'm going to love and have for years Enjoy Greece 😊
Here in Paraguay it is mostly summer all year. We have a short, mild winter in June and July. However Christmas is in the middle of summer. I do decorate for Christmas but not much more than the tree. It’s so hot, it feels suffocating to have extra decor around. I love America but I’ve lived in places where decorating in Americana is literally putting a target on your home.
I felt Valentina come for me in this video! 😆 I did the TikTok faux outdoor potted plant trend! and I have faux wreaths on my door! I tried real plants and they BURNED so I had to go with option 2. lol. Holiday decor - OUCH! I AM THAT PERSON! I don't shout it throughout my house, but I definitely participate in the seasons, (Halloween & Christmas are the exceptions - BRING IT ON!) but it was a family tradition to change out for the seasons, (even if it was just a cookie lid) and I am keeping that tradition; just making it tasteful. (IMO). :) Loved the video and it made me laugh!!
About seashells, they’re ubiquitous. You can buy bags of them at craft stores. And yes, if found empty on the shore, they need to go back in the ocean because they’ll become the home of another sea creature (reuse, recycle) or degrade eventually into what makes sand. It’s a win win to leave those shells alone. And another win to keep your decor out of the cliché 👍💃💐
I Love ❤️ my Country Australia, where most of the year it’s more Summer than Winter 🥶 at the moment we’re in our winter months But I don’t change out my decor every season, the only time of year that I switch it up a little is at Christmas time with a few Christmas decorations but other than that our outdoor area flows from our inside and we’ve just done a renovation of the flooring outside and it turned out perfectly from what I had in my head, it’s more of a kind of beach theme but I have prints on the bricks No Signs telling you that it’s Summer Lol 😂. Thank you V and Jack for taking the time out of your vacation to do this video, you’ve given me inspiration and ideas that I’ve put into my own home and I’m very grateful to you for that. Enjoy the rest of your vacation. ❤️❤️
Very good points. I will add that I have always changed my curtains in my bedroom and living room from the cozy warm velvets to the airy cooler linens. Yes it’s a bit of work but it changes the whole vibe.
I am totally using fake plants outdoors because it is triple digit hot all summer long and only slightly cooler the rest of the time. I have some jade plamts amd other live succulents. But this summer, I am trying potted fauxs. If it looks too tacky, which it well may do, I'll just toss it all out.
Generally, I completely agree, I do have one guilty pleasure and that is the holiday of Halloween. I bring out the oddly shaped pillows for that holiday. Everything else is pretty toned down and with living in the UK, the houses don't have a ton of storage, so I get one small decor box per holiday (except for xmas ornaments, that is 3 boxes!).
Americana decor can be up for memorial Day through labor day so all summer .. I think that it's ok to have it because it's more laid back like summer is
I’m showing my age (50) but the whole holiday specific decor for every. single. holiday. is pretty recent. Very few people decorated for holidays other than Easter and Christmas. I don’t mean that we wouldn’t have 4th of July tableware or party stuff or themed tablecloths at Thanksgiving, more that there wouldn’t be throw pillows and wreaths and stuff for every room and surface in your house. I think it’s just a drive by decor companies driving conspicuous consumption. I also don’t think it accomplishes what we’re after, which is the feeling of a season or location. Popsicle pillows don’t authentically capture the feeling of summer. Lightweight fabrics, natural textures, color, scent, and a lack of clutter are what provide the feeling of warmth and lightness that we’re after.
Great video! Glad you're having a fun trip. The AirBnb is really beautiful. I don't have any of the summer items you mentioned, I'm not a big fan myself. Jacks joke, and your reaction...😂
Having four children and when they were little I had some holiday decor for almost holiday but a small amount of since my kids have grown and gone I just didn’t do that anymore. Not even a pumpkin at Halloween. I did it for years and I’m over it. If I get a pumpkin now I spray paint it silver or gold and put it on my stone column by the mailbox. Very minimal.
Ahh Jack, my type of humor 😆 and I agree with everything. I love shells but there’s no ocean in Colorado so I like them in sculptural form instead of just loose shells in a jar. I will say that I go all out with my decor for Halloween and Christmas. But aside from that I generally switch out throw pillows, a few vases, greenery, and candles. Everything else stays the same year round.
Jack's dad joke and twitchy eye...rofl! Agree with these thoughts. While I may do 4th of July themed plates, napkins and colors for a cookout, it all goes away the same day. I tend to like to introduce summer through lightening up the layers and colors.
Had to laugh because my front door is like a cave 😆 I live in a walkup condo/loft and have a wreath with a few faux flowers on it and it never fades because unfortunately my front door is in a cave like stairwell hahah. Im not kidding, there have been BATS before. Luckily my actual unit is so bright and sunny with skylights and south facing etc. But yes! It is a cave hahah. I share a thin stairwell with 2 others so I can't fit anything else out there other than a nice door mat and a wreath to make the cave entry way less sad.
I love the 4th of July half round flags that people put under windows and porches, but that's all for summer decor. Not that you care what I think, but I like Jack's hair a little higher on top. The rest of the new cut is great though !!!! Enjoy your time in Mykonos !
I love the background. I think we just run to Target Dollar Store etc. to pick up stuff for holidays. If you have kids I would consider getting fun beach towels and swim suits etc. that scream summer. Kids don’t care about home decor. If you have white plates then just get some blue or red napkins.. no need to go full flag. I’m not a wreath person period but if that your thing as least replace if it starts to fade or fall apart. Big takeaway is a lot of this stuff is just not worth the storage and upkeep. Unlike the holidays, it’s literally for one day unless you keep flag stuff going all summer. Save yourself the trouble.
Evidently I'm creepy. I love the wreaths you showed, I thought they were pretty. (However, I currently have no wreaths on any door with no plans to buy any). I also like seashells and have quite a few in various spots in my living room. I live in the northern plains so it brings the ocean to me, sort of. I must be very decor challenged.
Don’t take it personally. I def don’t have the lux look and I love a lot if what Valentina doesn’t. She is just trying to help people who want the luxury look which you obviously don’t; I don’t either, but I enjoy others opinions and ideas 🙂 I live seashells and wreaths lol
Americans are the only people I know of that redecorate each season. Here in the UK the only change we make is adding Christmas decorations. The rest of the year the house stays the same.
I completely agree with both of you on the gimmicky decor. Not a fan. But with a family with children, I'm talking young ones then I think two pieces of seasonal decor isn't outta line. We're going to be moving soon and just this morning we dropped off 5 boxes plus a tote of just stuff I no longer wanted to hold onto anymore. I thi k the older one gets, the more selective we become when bringing anything into our home. I think I'd be happy with 100 pieces of fine good quality pieces verses eh stuff.
I just ordered blumene from your link, hope it does work. Lol. BTW when Jack gives you a compliment about your skin you should answer with a Thank you! Lol maybe you had edited that part out by mistake.😃
Squirrels wrecked my flower boxes & arrangements in an urn!!! Soil, lovely annuals & “stored nuts” all over my sisal rug! So…I began to arrange with faux plants. Forgive me please!
When you have kids sometimes you put up what makes me happy to celebrate the holidays and the seasons. Even now I have one Halloween wreath that normally isn't my style with fake candy corn, but it makes me smile. It's okay to lighten up.
Jack's eyes are on you the entire time! And he nods in support of all that you say. You are blessed!💕
I have stopped decorating for every occasion too! Love love love as no more storing, buying etc. love my neutral home ❤
Totally agree! 🇺🇸
Yes!!!!!!
Weird to have pride for a country that is so incredibly racist, bigoted, misogynistic, and fascist.
Completely agree. I don’t think it’s meant for just one day. I think it’s lovely to show that you are grateful to be here and take pride in caring for your community. 🇺🇸
Pride and joy for a genocidal country? No thanks!!
Love when Jack joins the video, so supportive.
Heck if it makes you happy do it❤ summer is for fun😊

Valentina, what are you doing working while on vacation?!! Unplug and relax, decorating will still be here when you get back ❤
Dont come for my wreaths!! The door is naked without it 😂
XOXO
😂😂
I love them
I love wreaths year-round.
I love them as well. I live in a condo . I don’t have an outdoor space.
HOLD ON ... I'm completely distracted by JACKS HAIR!!! LOVE IT!! You look SO good with that natural, relaxed salt and pepper Jack! Papa-Chic for sure!! Now... Gotta go back and rewatch!😁
I agree on the sign thing it drives me crazy. I used to do a lot of what you said, but hey, I was young, and it takes a while to develop taste.
We’ve all done these at some point. 😅
It had a moment...
Love Jack's new hairstyle 😂
As a Texan, I thought decorating for summer just meant put away all the Christmas stuff.
Ha, that’s hilarious!
😂😂😂
Finally! Jack you look great with your new haircut.
Much more flattering.
I SO AGREE! Loving that natural, relaxed salt n pepper PAPA-CHIC!
Great points! Enjoy Greece! Nice to hear the birds chirping too.
Thank you so much!
@@HouseofValentina Also, what's your take on having faux wreaths on entrance doors if you live in a condo?
Jack's hairstyle looks great.
I prefer his usual "pouf"!
I agree with all of your tips. I’ve never liked the July 4th theme, but I do appreciate my country. Enjoy your trip!

I enjoy your decorating ideas given 😂😂 but he is a joy at being corny. My husband is the same way with the jokes 🤣🤣.
I love my huge Giga shell, I found it at the Good Will in Fla for 10.00. Looks beautiful around my bathtub. It's a very rare find.
Jack, nice summer haircut 👍🏻💙
Love Jacks haircut looks very handsome

I’m curious - are you no longer recommending the faux wreaths that you recommended in the video “10 home items that all stylish people always own?”
I was wondering the same thing. I purchased a pottery barn faux white berry wreath (it was pricey) because she had one on her door 🤨🤨
Yes, I have a spring one on my door that she recommended.

I just like a greenery wreath without flowers for year round and then a winter one for Christmas
That sounds like a nice way to celebrate summer!
Excellent video from Greece. Love the backdrop
Thank you Pat!

Here Colorado the sun is shining 360 days a year. Even if it snows. The front of our home is north facing. Flowers will not grow. Shrubs only. 😢
Before moving back home to Texas, I lived a mile from a California beach. But I did NOT have a sign pointing to “the beach”.
I think I'd be happy with 100 pieces of fine good quality pieces verses eh stuff.
yes
I used to love change my wreaths out seasonally until the birds tried making a nest in them every spring. 😡😂
Many places it’s illegal now to take sand, shells, rocks etc. we let our kids pick shells up but then release.
No theme decorating for me
I love simplistic and elegance. Waiting to see more Greece videos. Enjoy
I don’t decorate for summer, I may switch out my heavier, blankets, and use the flowers that grow outside
