Get 360 Footage with your Mavic Air 2!

- I found an inexpensive solution for obtaining 360 videos and photos with the Mavic Air 2. This product is well built, works great, but there is one issue that I had with it. Comment if you know what the heck was happening. (Yes, I had the sensors turned off!)

Hey everyone, just so you know, if the drone is moving forward, and you decrease altitude, it does work normally. It's just when you try to come straight down, that it causes issues.
Exactly what I guessed might be the solution. Regardless of having sensors shutoff, I suspect the down facing sensor may believe the camera is ground which inhibits going down. If so, flying forward moves the camera back far enough to hide the obstruction. Yes, you've disabled the Vision /Hovering range sensors, but I wonder if the Time of Flight sensor (Range: 0.1-8 meters) is still working and seeing your camera as an obstacle. I think you were having flight issues because the setup is wrong.
I know there's no instructions, but that triangle shock absorber attaches to the bottom of the drone.
That way the shock absorber can work in all directions not just forward and backwards. So, if the drone needs to bank a bit in response to a sudden gust of wind, it's not transferring that movement through the extension arm..
Try reconfiguring the mount so that the shock absorber its directly under the drone and it should fly much better

I bought the same product and had all the same issues you mentioned: no response to land and auto land. My worst was my drone wobbles 95% of the time. Thank you for your video on it. Glad I was not the only one experiencing these issues. Fly safe.

Some of the shots where you're able to pan around the sunflowers while flying in a different direction, etc are downright cinematic. Like a cameraman hanging out the door of a helicopter!
Have you done the tiny planet with the Air 2 quick shot? It’s funny I found this video today because I ordered a mount kind of like this on Amazon earlier for my insta360. I don’t want to use the under mount because of the catch, but just figured I could use the quick shot on the drone for that and use the upper mount for other 360 footage 👍🏻 Thanks for this video!
Interesting, I just ordered one. I use my Insta360 ONE R on my FPV drones and will be pretty cool to use it with my Mavic Air 2 as well.
It’s a great product Russ and a very good alternative idea and cheaper option from you to have a video camera attached below a drone besides those pro drones which has a camera below. Of course we have to be cautious when flying with it and it’s good that you have given us some pointers to look out for. I wouldn’t have that idea to attach a camera below my drones. I haven't tried it, but maybe a grabber tool (the kind you use to pick up things on the floor so you don't have to bend down) would help with hand catching and maybe launching
I got the same harness a little over a week ago, attached my Ricoh Theta SC2, and the first flight scared the crap out of me before I could get 10 feet off the ground. So this video comes at a very opportune time for me. Hope it helps get my 360 camera back up with the MA2, because I'm a glutton for punishment and still game to try it.

Russ, I appreciate you posting reviews like this. However anything that would effect the flight of any deone i would never recommend. We have to many people that fly in an unsafe mannor, and this product exacerbate that problem. Please, please keep posting video content and reviews. Thanks.
I saw bracket for placing insta360 cam or gopro mounted to mavic 2 drone, sold by few sellers in China.
Nice do you think the FAA recquire a license first to fly the drone? Or is it fine to fly the new drone? What do u recommend?

I just Velcro my camera on top no issues been flying drones for 11 years.
I did a video comparing that type of adapter to the Insta360 adapter. I haven't found one of those adapters for Mavic 2 but had one for my Mavic Pro that fit with zip ties.
It's kinda cool looking with the drone in the tiny planet video but I wouldn't want it every time so this stick is a good thing

Interesting video Russ. I've been looking for a 1/4" mount for the MA2 and could only find one that required attaching the mount more permanetly. So I clicked on your link to the product you reviewed and found out that mount is out of stock and Amazon isn't sure when or if it will be available. So it is now a Wish List item.

future Mavic Air 2. I am just in the hobby and will be carrying my Ipad

My thought on the auto landing issue, could be because the cam is swinging the drone thinks its being pulled down.
the idea is the same if you hand pull it out the air it will land or shut down.
2nd the swing of cam in the bottom sensor could be signaling the drone to respond and react.

What is the point in hanging a Camera below the drone when you already have a Camera attached to the Drone, can not see the point in it

hi Russ not sure if you had payload on and maybe put drone into tripod mode and at takeoff turn drone 360 couple times get gps lock i have aerial edition insta 360 one r mavic pro it went into atti mode til i spun it around get gps lock ps no drone in footage with aerial edition very cool

I got something similar from Insta360 for my Mavic 2 Pro but when I first tried it the drone got the shivers and shakes (this was without the shock absorbers section attached, though) so I never really used it. I might try again soon as I recently upgraded from the One X to the R.
If you have any more hats with your old logo on it i would like to buy one.

Too many safety "maybes" to be an acceptable solution.
This TBH I'd be terrified I'd get it up to 100m and wouldn't be able to get it back down or it'd start trying to land in the air.

No, it is custom fit. That Mavic 2 Pro is much larger.
My experience is the gps screwed up. With out gps your drone won’t show up in your map
I expect this will void your warranty, it’s a bit of fun not sure if it’s worth all the hassle.
Anything you attach to a drone will void the warranty.
