I really appreciate that you are doing all of this and still going to art school. I was making art and going to school and working full time and it was a nightmare. I like cutting yupo paper for some stencils, but I have a stencil cutter too for long term ones
"I'm not a teacher'.... Dude, that was some serious teaching right there! :D Awesome video! That really did answer a bunch of my questions.... Looking forward to trying some of this stuff out myself. Thanks!!!
Indeed...ten years ago I asked myself 'who is gonna watch youtube over television or cable?' haha now I find myself watching pretty much nothing but TH-cam...his programming is so much better than the garbage on television, cool stuff, I learn something, and get inspired.
Slew. Know that your older videos are STILL out here bringing value in 2022. I will try a project like this and see how it goes! Thank you for showing your process so that others can give it try. Mad love.
My dude, I don't even know you and I watch your videos and just feel super proud of you for what you've been able to accomplish as an artist. I am sure that a lot of people are looking to you for inspiration.
10:57 A good tip would be to spray each corner with a little bit of paint with the first stencil. Then you can easily line up the other stencils on the corners of the paper ;) (If the paper is the same size and the design in the same spot on all of them) And I think doing the background color first would save you time from having to cover the thing in the end with tape and cutting it out... Is there a reason you do the background last?
I am a high school art teacher and I must say, you did a GREAT job explaining what you do. Really cool man. I'm trying to find a last minute stencil stuff for my students, who half are online. Not an easy task. Keep up the good work Slew
Love HS art teachers. Best material to use, what ever is handy. Artists spend WAY to much on supplies and equipment. The worst things is that people will think they can not do something because they don't have _______. Ovecome the expectation of spending money for art.
I could watch this all day long, Thank you for explaining It's something i've always struggled with. The shadows (values) I'm just going to watch it over and over till it makes sense to my brain.
I love your vids and watching the whole process. I haven't drawn anything in over a decade. I've never painted or stenciled, but some day I will. Thanks for the inspiration, entertainment, and knowledge sharing!
Holy cow dude. Your video content is awesome! I love that you have a passion for video editing just as much as you do for art. I love that you view editing as a piece of art within itself! You’ve definitely got a new subscriber. I’ve always been a more realistic designer/ illustrator with graphite and charcoal being my preferred medium; But you’ve inspired me to tap into my own more raw emotional style of artistry. Keep the content coming! You’re going to be huge! I have no doubts you’ll be able to make a living at this. Also, since I watched this video you went from 31k subs to 32k subs! Like what!
you can use spray adhesive on the back of the stencil aswell to stick it down just make sure to let it dry a bit first. Use plastic fades is curl up one edge of a cut so when ya spray the edge isn't crisp but faded. You can also put like blutac under the edge to do the same kind of effect ya just gotta be extra careful ya might want to spray on a 45 so the aint goes a bit under the edge ya wanna do the fade. If ya have a issue with the stencil having limited points of connection and it hangs and is a bit weak, you can use fishing line and bridge it so its more rigid. Just use tape or hot glue to stick down the fishingline of either side of the stencil ya trying to bridge . it will barely show up on the spray if at all. I hope these little tips help :) keep up the awesome work Slew
This is one of the better videos about the process. I hope you decide to do more like this because people don’t care that you are not a teacher. They just want to learn something new and fun. Keep doing your thang bruv.
You’re really creative thank you so much for your hard work and dedication, it’s really inspiring. And Thank you for sharing some of your tips and tricks, I know many artists don’t like to do that. But we appreciate so thank you again.
Its an amazing video, you can be a good teacher. From something who doesn't know anything in art-making is simple, very good explained and prefers this kind of teacher in universities. Art is incredible. Keep doing what you do! And have fun!
So cool to see the step by step and materials explanation too. Thanks for being so gracious with your technique advice, love that so much Slew! Can't wait to get into the studio and try some more stenciling now. 💚
Suggestion - protect the joints in your fingers - I've hand cut lots of stencils (with an Exactos for airbrush projects), over the years, and my hand has paid the price with sore joints. I tape them now for support. btw...what a wonderful skill and almost lost art that you're demonstrating - I'm a fan!
dude, thanks so much for showing your process. keep up the great work!

Why is this channel just 37k? Been searching for worthy channels for monthts now. Since Neistat droped his daily Vlog I haven't been able to find anything good... But man!! Today I finaly found something. Amazing channel. Very inspiring. It might also up my poor painting game ... LOLLL
Slew. You're awesome man. I wish you continued success. I think the ways to have a meaningful life is to do what you love and to inspire people. You're doing both. Thanks. This really helped inspire me. Also cool place.
i just gotta say i feel like my dad would have loved to see your art i even cried it reminded me of him i always thought it was embarrassing to like stuff your dad liked but now he's gone i i wash i could have told him how much i loved the same things he did damn i regret that
Thanks brother Slew this was exactly what I was going to do with one of my main characters after I have been watching your channel for a few months now as you stencil projects are amazing. I’m a self taught artist since childhood and stopped in junior high as I was a drummer as well and music was my life so I started a metal band . Now 30 plus years later during COVID this summer my parents pushed me into doing art again and now art is my passion I can’t stop. I would like to do art for the rest of my life as I zone out into my art and listen to my amazing music . Peace out , Loco Lance
What’s up Slew! I’ve recently discovered one of your vids on my recommended feed on TH-cam and I’m glad I did. Your work is amazing and I can’t wait to check out more of your vids. Also this vid was extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us man! 👍🏽
Hello, SLEW. I just want to say that this video was a real enjoyment. The way you speak is very interesting, the way you draw is really cool and beautiful in it's special way and so everything looks realy natural and pure. I am happy I have seen it. Greetings from Bulgaria and have fun! P.S.: The room (facility) is smashing!
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video! I’m a practicing artist, I studied ceramics but more recently getting back to paintings I found this really helpful! Can’t wait to apply some of the knowledge to my own practice. Loving your stuff ❤️
Man this was so wicked. That Paper sounds like a pretty high gsm, like 2-3 hundred, so I'll try my project out somewhere in that ballpark. Nice to know there's no particular Montana can range you use (gold/black, etc), as I also have a few in my crate, so will crack on with those. Thanks for doing this, it was really helpful. Looking forward to seeing all the dope stuff coming next!
I just found you man and I’m very inspired by your craftsmanship and your creative ideas! Your videos are awesome and I can’t wait to see what you have next! Keep’er going!
Ordered a bunch of stuff to try my hand at stencils. I'm getting sheets of transparent acetate rather than paper/card though. It's tougher, will last longer. And its easier to see that you are placing layers correctly.
hey man, just wanted to thank you for your badass art and tutorials. i’ve landed in a dead end, boring, routine in my life and this gave me some inspiration to create and get back in tune with myself. very much appreciated!
Just found your channel, and you are incredible! I am an art student, and this gives me so much inspiration and ideas for future projects, I would love to do something this intensive and complex. Absolutely awesome dude. Keep up the good work
You did a great job man, don't know if you did your own editing, but excellent job! (I used to Bob Ross teach at wine paint bar, and art is a skill and talking/explaining is a skill, and the two don't allways go together, and I've found that passion makes all the difference. I think you love what you do, and that comes through. I'll be watching to see where you go from here. Respect!
this is my 3rd video that I've seen from you. I just discovered you, your work and ur IG today and I'm already obsessed with you lmao your studio is amazing your work is incredible! LOVE your videos, you're great. keep it up!
This was definitely a helpful video I didn’t think I would even find this bc I didn’t know how to word the specific stencils style I was looking for so I really appreciate you breaking this down. I’m new to the paint game you all will notice my work one day 🤝
I know this is old, but in regards to the poster board paper. There are different types of poster boards, some are thicker, some are thinner, some have a slick side (used by spray painters) and some have no slick side. I would say to go for the kind with a slick side and make that side the side facing up (not laid down on the canvas/surface). This should help with bleeding.
I'm not into art at all, I only have to do some one-layer stencils with my boyfriend for his apartment, just for fun, never tried it before... I watched the whole video bc it's so fascinating even if you explained much more than what we need and you explained everything so well!!! The stencil you made was amazing :O
Thank you very much for the tutorial. A suggestion, when you wear the cap you can hide the microphone lavalier inside it (letting out just the tip of the capsule).
Friends, if you're into this, consider looking up if you've got a maker space with a laser cutter near you. Laser cutting paper is easy and precise and might be easier for anyone that has trouble with cutting.
Brotherman did it again!!! You killed it homie. Thanks for truly listening to everyone out here looking up to you. Great philanthropy, enjoy the journey up 💯
So great the TH-cam algorythm finally took me to some great channel! I've been watching your videos all night, nice content. Keep it up, cheers from Argentina!
Have you ever thought about sharing your childhood sketchbooks in a video? I think it would be really cool to see the process of how you got to where you are now artistically :)
consider rocking a like on this video.. took me a while to edit and film!
CRAZY PROJECTS ON THE HORIZON

SLEW thank you for putting in the work. I am going to start working on my own project today, thank you

Thanks!!!
He's absolutely as good as the grad student teachers at my school.
He means he rather not sit and teach but create art for his own fulfillment. He’s only showing you his process to what he does in his own work.
THIS is the internet I signed up for, so much talent and quality :)
damn, yo @SLEW this girl hella fine u need to get up in this comment dawg
Our generation doesn't know how to use technology to our advantage
Indeed...ten years ago I asked myself 'who is gonna watch youtube over television or cable?' haha now I find myself watching pretty much nothing but TH-cam...his programming is so much better than the garbage on television, cool stuff, I learn something, and get inspired.
Dude, you have no idea how good your timing is with this video. 10/10

The best kind of teaching, when it just feels like we're sitting down having a conversation. Thanks!
if only calculus and organic chemistry could work that way. ;)

Pro tip: put images into photoshop and mess with the halftime filter to get a better grasp of ‘4 value stencils’.
HalfTone
you definitely break down the steps into better understanding of how to create such magical stencils for the beginner
youre so genuine thats what makes you special. im so inspired by you thank you
Why hasn't SLEW blown up on TH-cam already?
CHALKO OWL I think we are amidst his channel doing just that! Like a week ago he had less than 15k subscribers!
I could watch this all day long, Thank you for explaining It's something i've always struggled with. The shadows (values) I'm just going to watch it over and over till it makes sense to my brain.
pinda0020 there a bunch of other great videos on TH-cam in value !
This is probably the best tutorial I've found on TH-cam. You might not be a teacher but your teaching better than the "teachers".
THIS CHANNEL IS AMAZINGLY EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND INFORMATIVE !!!!!!!!! love it
You just changed my life boo...thank you! Brilliant and entertaining, you definitely know your stuff.
I love your vids and watching the whole process. I haven't drawn anything in over a decade. I've never painted or stenciled, but some day I will. Thanks for the inspiration, entertainment, and knowledge sharing!
I love your simple ways you explain your creations.

Expert vid as always! A little confused about what order to paint the stencils in but I think if I work back to front I can achieve the same effect!
You did a great job man, don't know if you did your own editing, but excellent job! Your awesome, many thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙌🏻
Thanks for the help ☺️ answered a lot of questions for me
I'm curious, why do paint the background last. Why not do it first to avoid possibly cutting through the canvas
I have the same question in my head.
Mate you are a beast ! Amazing channel and so so nice artwork .

This tutorial is so motivating, thanks a lot!!!cheers from Argentina and dont rip the idea of giving tutorials once in a while
Very impressed. Have you ever seen anyone cut a stencil using that card stock on a vinyl cut plotter?
