What Rocha was saying that the director wasn't aiming to make some sci-fi epic. He used to crafting French art house films - ala The City of Lost Gods and Amelle. So if you go into Alien 4 expecting a big science fiction epic, you're going to be disappointed because the movie and director aren't a good fit together. It's like pairing Andrei Tarkovsky to a Marvel movie; it's not an appropriate fit. Plus, in mentioning the fact that he is French also alludes to some loss in cultural and linguistic translation; which is actually true given the fact that Jean Pierce didn't speak English during the time of filming, so all of his direction come through translators.

If you watch City Of Lost Children, it's a slow-moving character driven sci-fi that features some really interesting concepts and designs and is more about the strange and layered character relationships than moving the plot forward at an exciting pace. The studio definitely should have known what they were buying when they hired him. I really like A4 overall -- but was a huge fan of Jean-Pierre Jeunet before Alien: Resurrection and got exactly what I expected.
I'm a fan of Jean-Pierre Jeunet as well and think that A4 is his worst film... I don't know that story behind the scenes, but it doesn't seem or feel like one of his movies - like the studio interfered. A pure Jeunet alien film would have been better and more interesting...

Resurection is a good film (good actors, good realisation, just keep in mind it's not a horror film) if you like other films of Jean Pierre Jeunet. Alien fans may not like it but it's a good film on its own, it's just very different from the other films of the alien franchise. Prometheus is a bad film on its own (the acting is terrible, the plot makes no sense, the writting is mostly terrible even though a few scenes are well written) and it's also a bad film for the franchise because the plot contradict a lot of things in the franchise (the technology is way more advanced than the one in Alien and Aliens even though it's a prequel, the creation of the xenomorph, ...).
Coys Pitch was excellent. Has he ever fought Landis? You guys should do a fast talking movie fights, with all the fighters in it who can dial up the speed to 11.

egalomon they did that with Mantz v Rocha 3 and they asked which best picture nominee is the best and mantz picked La La Land and Rocha picked moonlight then Andy changed it and said argue why it's the worst so it's been done before
And while this one was funny, the Moonlight La La Land flip was the best because it also showed they could appreciate the other film. When the flip is too extreme they just make ridiculous statements that only work if they get laughs. The Moonlight/La La Land flip there were actual points made.
Mike and John argued why their Alien movies were disappointing, Coy argued why his was bad. But still a fun fight! Can't wait to see Mike fight it out again.
Stuckmann is admittedly sensitive when it comes to critique, but so is Dan Murrel, Spencer Gilbert, and plenty of other guests. People like Carlson are the best because they don't really care who wins and understand it's a game. Plus I don't think it can get much worse than Adi Shankar...
Spoiler... I get that Rocha's poster argument may have been uncomfortable and not really fleshed out as well as his other arguments, but cutting him off and ending his game seems like a bit much too. And good on Rocha for handling it like a grown up and professional because I probably would not have taken it so well. And while I'm kissing his @ss I'll say I thought his defense of Batman and Robin was amazing.

I cant believe nobody threw Alien Vs Predator Requiem in there. Not just cause it has the lowest score on RT which it deserved. But its so bad I didnt even remember it happened. I was wondering if you could cover INJUSTICE (1 and 2), I know this is a video game, however, if you just want to see the Story Mode Cinematics ... is pretty much a movie, and considering that DC Movies haven't lived up to ANY Expectation, I think is worth the watch I know is a video game and all, but like I said, is really a good story/movie, and I would like yo get your take on it. 1:15:52 okay Mike Carlson, the reason Robert Downey Jr.'s head looks that way isn't because of bad photoshop. If you actually think it through it is because the Iron Man suit makes his body both wider and taller. So when he is on the suit and is not wearing the mask of course his head will look a bit odd because it is smaller in proportion than a head would be to an average body.
I'm glad Mike won this. Coy and John are both really strong fighters, but I thought it was unfair they were given second chances in the tournament. Didn't matter though, Mike won and we got a good, entertaining fight! Mike vs JTE vs Mantz sounds... interesting.
John Johnston I actually enjoyed Alien 3 as a whole. The only dumb thing about it is that they kill Newt and Riggs off-screen at the beginning. Resurrection is by far, the worst. The plot was stupid, the acting was fucking horrible, especially from Winona Ryder, and the CGI is just plain bad. The only things I like about Resurrection are the scene where Ripley kills all the failed clones and the Xenomorph with human traits, which was an EXTREMELY interesting idea and made me somewhat accept the clone Ripley plot.
Anime Guru Anime Guru while I agree with you that Covenant is not a good film, and that the notion that David created the Xenomorph species is lame, you are incorrect to say that this is a plot hole...Covenant takes place 16 years before the original Alien; we still have a crappy sequel to look forward to in which every interesting mystery of the original film is explained...
I love Prometheus, I will defend it and Covenant as long as I live :P The plot holes he used is set up for future movies or already explained, but it doesn't shove it down your throat. And the Engineer sacrificed himself to create us(seemingly), the black liquid terraforms any organic thing as shown multiple times in Prometheus and Alien Covenant, also what makes David interesting in Prometheus is that we see him having an alternative motive and show emotions.

Personally I don't think we've seen the last of the Engineers as we know there's one in Alien(1979) and they've obviously done planetary travel for a long time, using planets for their own betterment. Venom pitch Movie opens with an old lady giving a monologue. it is Madame Web speaking "Every world needs a Spider-man, and every world has one. Except this one." We then cut to a montage of potential spider men being cut down before they get to take on the mantle. We see Peter Parker joining his parents on the trip that kills them, we see Gwen Stacy working for Oscorp and being bitten by the spider and going into anaphalactic shock and dying, the spider then being stepped on. Madame Web's voice over continues. I have been searching for this world's Spider-man my whole life and now we need him more than ever. We now cut to Eddie Brock, hotshot reporter, he is dating Mary Jane, everything is great for him in a world without Peter Parker. He gets a call from JJ asking him to go investigate a Nasa press conference as one of his reporters had let him down. He heads off and when he gets there Nasa is unveiling a rock they believe has come from a planet in another solar system. They let the reporters look at the rock from behind a velvet rope but JJJ has managed to wangle Brock to get close up photos as his son is an astronaut. Brock touches the rock to get a better angle and a drop of black goo comes out and goes under his fingernail. Now infected with the symbiote he becomes more short tempered stronger and starts working out a lot, drinking protein shakes etc. The symbiote begins to get stronger until it is able to start communicating. When it does so he is freaked out. Thinking he is possessed he goes to his church to confess. Understandably he scares the priest and then the bells ring. The ringing bells make the symbiote come out of him getting to escape. When they stop the symbiote then jumps back on Brock on the outside. Confused Brock and the symbiote stumble out of the church and find their way to Madame Web's as she is beckoning Spider-man psychically. When they get there Web calls him Venom, they do not know the name and they say at the same time "I'm Eddie Brock" and "I am Symbiote". She then tells them about Spider-man, and Venom from other universes. She then shows them the spider totem which has the venom logo on it, they touch it and then they change from all black liquid covering Brock to look like the Venom we know and love. At which point they say together "We are Venom!" Then the rest of the movie happens, they fight a villain or something.

I do agree with you saying that Prometheus is a good film but I do believe that Alien 3 is just a very poorly filmed and terribly written mess which could've been so incredible but Fincher just wasn't ready for a big franchise film especially one that came off the back of two of the best Science Fiction films of all time (in my opinion). But I most certainly agree that Alien: Resurrection is one of the most horrific films in recent memory.

Needed multiple views to discover some hidden themes tho. I love when science fiction movies do that.
Was like you upon the first viewing. Went back and watched, its far better than what people makes it out to be. Its not the best movie ever made. It certainly isn't a perfect one but I appreciated the themes it explored and the way it executed them.

I'm glad most people agree that Alien: Covenant was an entertaining film that answered questions as well as posed new ones that previous installments failed to answer.
Alien is an atypical franchise, to me. there is the first movie and then there are three other movies that tried in different and more or less successful ways, but that couldn't remotely come close to the masterpiece that is "Alien". I mean I have preferences, I guess, but I don't really care for any of the sequels.
Harry Thomas Pictures Alien was a suspenseful horror thriller with one hyperintelligent alien that could only be defeated by being blown into space. Aliens was a sci-fi action shoot-em-up film with "a lot" of aliens that could be blown away by bullets.
I had high hopes for the worst poster question, but their picks (aside from maybe Coy) were not terrible at all. you should watch goodbadflicks' video about what happened to movie posters, there's a lot of shitty ones in it. and Rocha's argument about the poster being racist and somehow ruining Richard Pryor's reputation was offensively dumb.

And while this one was funny, the Moonlight La La Land flip was the best because it also showed they could appreciate the other film. When the flip is too extreme they just make ridiculous statements that only work if they get laughs. The Moonlight/La La Land flip there were actual points made.

The funny thing about the other two is that the Venom from Mike's can actually come after Coy's pitched movie as it is based off a Venom down the timeline and they both can follow after X Spiderman movie. Rocha and Coy, particularly Rocha, never really let Mike get a word in with the Alien argument. It felt so one sided and gave me a headache.

1:15:52 okay Mike Carlson, the reason Robert Downey Jr.'s head looks that way isn't because of bad photoshop. If you actually think it through it is because the Iron Man suit makes his body both wider and taller. So when he is on the suit and is not wearing the mask of course his head will look a bit odd because it is smaller in proportion than a head would be to an average body.

John Johnston I actually enjoyed Alien 3 as a whole. The only dumb thing about it is that they kill Newt and Riggs off-screen at the beginning.
Resurrection is by far, the worst. The plot was stupid, the acting was fucking horrible, especially from Winona Ryder, and the CGI is just plain bad. The only things I like about Resurrection are the scene where Ripley kills all the failed clones and the Xenomorph with human traits, which was an EXTREMELY interesting idea and made me somewhat accept the clone Ripley plot.
Alien3 at least has a cast with actors like Charles Dance and Pete Postlewhite (Rip) so it isnt that bad.

And the Engineer sacrificed himself to create us(seemingly), the black liquid terraforms any organic thing as shown multiple times in Prometheus and Alien Covenant, also what makes David interesting in Prometheus is that we see him having an alternative motive and show emotions.

Personally I don't think we've seen the last of the Engineers as we know there's one in Alien(1979) and they've obviously done planetary travel for a long time, using planets for their own betterment.
The first planet we see them terraform in Prometheus is not specified, it could be Earth or it could be a completely different planet, but we know they use planets.
Coy's pitch for Venom is actually pretty close to what I pitched back when they first made the announcement of a Venom movie.

Venom pitch
Movie opens with an old lady giving a monologue. it is Madame Web speaking
"Every world needs a Spider-man, and every world has one. Except this one."
We then cut to a montage of potential spider men being cut down before they get to take on the mantle. We see Peter Parker joining his parents on the trip that kills them, we see Gwen Stacy working for Oscorp and being bitten by the spider and going into anaphalactic shock and dying, the spider then being stepped on.
Madame Web's voice over continues.
I have been searching for this world's Spider-man my whole life and now we need him more than ever.
We now cut to Eddie Brock, hotshot reporter, he is dating Mary Jane, everything is great for him in a world without Peter Parker.
He gets a call from JJ asking him to go investigate a Nasa press conference as one of his reporters had let him down. He heads off and when he gets there Nasa is unveiling a rock they believe has come from a planet in another solar system. They let the reporters look at the rock from behind a velvet rope but JJJ has managed to wangle Brock to get close up photos as his son is an astronaut. Brock touches the rock to get a better angle and a drop of black goo comes out and goes under his fingernail.
Now infected with the symbiote he becomes more short tempered stronger and starts working out a lot, drinking protein shakes etc. The symbiote begins to get stronger until it is able to start communicating. When it does so he is freaked out. Thinking he is possessed he goes to his church to confess. Understandably he scares the priest and then the bells ring. The ringing bells make the symbiote come out of him getting to escape. When they stop the symbiote then jumps back on Brock on the outside. Confused Brock and the symbiote stumble out of the church and find their way to Madame Web's as she is beckoning Spider-man psychically. When they get there Web calls him Venom, they do not know the name and they say at the same time "I'm Eddie Brock" and "I am Symbiote". She then tells them about Spider-man, and Venom from other universes. She then shows them the spider totem which has the venom logo on it, they touch it and then they change from all black liquid covering Brock to look like the Venom we know and love. At which point they say together "We are Venom!"
Then the rest of the movie happens, they fight a villain or something.
Think I am literally the only person on the planet that thinks Alien 3 was actually really good.. :(

I do agree with you saying that Prometheus is a good film but I do believe that Alien 3 is just a very poorly filmed and terribly written mess which could've been so incredible but Fincher just wasn't ready for a big franchise film especially one that came off the back of two of the best Science Fiction films of all time (in my opinion). But I most certainly agree that Alien: Resurrection is one of the most horrific films in recent memory.

Was like you upon the first viewing. Went back and watched, its far better than what people makes it out to be. Its not the best movie ever made. It certainly isn't a perfect one but I appreciated the themes it explored and the way it executed them.

Alien is an atypical franchise, to me. there is the first movie and then there are three other movies that tried in different and more or less successful ways, but that couldn't remotely come close to the masterpiece that is "Alien".
