    Thank you! The first really informative video from any of the sources in Hawaii & on the big island. I think I can speak for most everyone when I say this video along with the excellent reporting/ conference call with everyone at the USGS is by far the best and most informative discussion to date concerning the volcanic activity and all of its ancillary effects to the public on the big island. The more info the better and I'm sure it's settled many nerves. Please keep them coming and again thank you to all involved.

    I think these Big Island News videos are very good. The diligent cutting in of relevant video in line with each question is welcome. Nice work.

    It was very nice to see new footage of what's going on .... seems the other channels show the same thing we seen last week. The video is outstanding in my opinion. Thank you so much for keeping us informed. As always, our prayers are with you. Stay safe.

    Whoa! How about that plume coming from a point offshore at the 13:33 mark? Maybe 800 ft out? The whole coast there is orange with lava. Incredible footage.

    This was a very informative video. I’m wondering what volume of lava has been emitted so far, and how many acres of land have been covered, and how does that compare to other eruptions in history. Just looking at the video, it seems like a huge volume of lava flow so far, and it just keeps coming.

      About 300 acres have been added at Kapoho. Fissure 8 pumps 6 - 9 million cubic meters of lava per day.

    I really hope it stays, so at least a beach and nice point will replace the Kapoho Bay, tide pools, and hot pools

    Good updates as usual, thanks. Say, over here on the other side in the Honaunau area we're getting reports of multiple earthquakes everyday approximately 14 miles Northeast of honaunau. Should we be concerned about this increase in many earthquakes every day up there on the side of maunaloa?

    Is this lava coming from the mantle or from some pocket of lava in the crust ? Also what happens when this lava reaches the surface and leaves a big hole in the mantle or crust ???? Could it result in a giant sink hole or could the entire island drop into the hole left by the lava ?

    • @TheShadixDarkkon
      @TheShadixDarkkon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim Wasson the amount of lava being emitted seems like a lot to us, but it's nothing compared to the volume of the Earth. No risk of the island going under. The hole that's developing at the summit is pretty much a sinkhole.

    Question: Could this event in any way be ongoing and triggered by Fukushima? Is it possible that 3 Kina Syndromes (as happened at Fukushima) have triggered some sort of nuclear overreaction and cascade event in our planets inner systems?

    It's amazing how long the rivers stay glowing hot. I thought the would form a scab on top, then the molten rock would flow through the lava tube? What conditions cause tubes to form and what cause the molten rock to me in an open air river?

    • @flyingturtle4559
      @flyingturtle4559 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The lava is currently moving too fast for a hardened top layer to establish itself plus most of the flow is too wide. Where the lava has reached the ocean might offer situations for short lava tubes to form, but yes, it is amazing to see how fluid the lava still is even after traveling 8 miles from fissure 8.

    • @erictaylor5462
      @erictaylor5462 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, care to answer another question? If a person takes a sample of the molten love illegally (stealing it) would it be hot, hot lava?

    • @geodeaholicm4889

      it would be liquid hot lava but would cool to solid within a minute or so & be cool enuff to touch within an hour or so depending of course on the size.

    • @erictaylor5462
      @erictaylor5462 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jesus, it's a joke. A stolen item is said to be "hot". So if you steal molten lava it will be hot (stolen) hot lava.

    • @mandipowell7797
      @mandipowell7797 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bert Moody Lava covered 3 pads and then stopped. There was fire damage to 2 storage sheds.
      The lava surge then changed direction. There are maps that show what part of PGV was covered.
      Locals in the upper Leilani Estates have not heard PVG start back up.

    • @flyingturtle4559
      @flyingturtle4559 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bert_ Big Island Video News posted this morning (6/14/18) had a good up to date view of PGV. Looking at the video explains why no further news is coming out. The plant was built on the high ground and fissure No.7 which supplied the lava that reached the plant has been dormant for over 2 weeks now. Current channelized lava flow is moving around and downhill behind PGV.

    They flew over the volcano and it showed the sinkhole they keep talking about much better.
    It looks to be sunken at an angle though...😐
    So is that like that all those earthquakes weeks ago that were deep means the reason for the fissure is the crack is bigger than a volcano spout and can only erupt through a long crack instead of a spout.
    The deep earthquakes diluted so to speak a pressure point with a long crack.
    Hate to say it but it might have saved the island just like the frakers that created the initial earthquakes predicted prior to fraking.
    The usgs possibly said in or before April that there was going to be a large volcano.
    Somehow someone said lets frack it and make a big crack so it won't be so potent of an initial explosion.
    Who knows though.😐

    There updates are informative. 2:11 and repeated at 9:50. USGS doesn't use eye protection when hammering for samples? Shame, shame. Especially if the worker would have had a hot cinder coming at him. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Take safety of your workers and contractors seriously, USGS!
