St Catharines Politicians keep bleating on about affordable housing and the well-being of its citizens. yet the same politicians just voted in favour of raising property taxes in my municipality by a whopping 10%. They are either blind to the plight of its people or just don't care! Higher interest rates, higher energy costs and overall Cost of living soaring and they do this!

I am a newly admitted student to Brock University. I am currently processing my Study permit. I would be coming to St. Catharine if my study permit gets approved. I would be pleased if you could share with me best places to stay considering cost and comfortability. In addition, I would be glad if you could share with me accessible well paid jobs for students. Thanks

Modest at 1,500sqft? You're lucky to get a rental for under $2000 now that's more than 500sqft. Let's not kid ourselves here... even a year ago when these prices were fairly accurate, even a 2 bedroom was only 700sqft. Currently you cannot get even a 1 bedroom for less than $1000 for between 300 - 500sqft. Which gets into the next point, being that this city is now made for students, the elderly, and rich investors. Nobody else can afford to live there who haven't already bought their house years ago.

As a former resident. It's a great place to visit, but lousy place to live. The industry got up left. Now service sector based economy. High taxes with two levels of government, municipal and regional. Lousy infrastructure. Hamilton, Toronto pollution. Medical backwater. Really humid in the summer. High rents. Wealthy Buffaloanians and Torontoanians buying up property. I got nothing good to say about the place.

I am a student looking for an apartment in St.Catherine . I have noticed that some of the apartments do not seem to be legal according to the GTA. Some people have access to furnaces in bedroom . Bathroom as so tiny. I have seen some homes where living room turn into a bedroom . Who is responsible for regulation in St.Catherine that students have to live this way and the rent is so expensive? I thought of writing to the MP about this. That's not acceptable.

Hi Berny! Thanks for checking out my channel. I totally empathize with you! Unfortunately, not every landlord is created equal, and this is definitely a problem when it comes to student rentals. I know from experience there are some amazing student rental properties and many that are bad. There is no licensing in St. Catharines so my advice to you is to take your time to find the right rental suite that fulfills your needs. Rental rates are based on supply and demand, much like real estate prices. The average student bedroom in St. Catharines is now offered from $500-600/room. I recommend connecting with a local property management company that specializes in student rentals so they can help you out. Best of luck with your search!

@@livinginniagara Thank you for the information. Because I know what I am looking for it's more difficult and expensive. I cannot share because of allergies. It's also for my daughter. I am checking 2 places tomorrow, hopefully I can choose one. It has been a long exhausting process. Thank you.

    Hi,
I got admission in Niagara College Welland Campus. Which place do you think is apt for me to stay in order to reach College as well as to access part time jobs? Please do reply!!!

    • @livinginniagara

Hello! I would recommend being within the north end of Welland for easy access to public transportation, and access to amenities. If you look at the college campus on a map anywhere within a few block radius would be the best.👍🏻

So we can't buy home as we would be staying on contractual basis. We are trying to decide where we should move as he can work remotely. Really appreciate you willing to offer help.
