The first collection of essays in the book I really enjoyed and found interesting, but around midway through the book it all started to feel jumbled. Maybe I don’t have the intellectual capacity for the way Hong writes, but at times it felt like she was trying to be so profound it almost became meaningless. Do you ever find yourself re-reading a sentence over and over trying to understand it? I kept doing that. There were parts where I just didn’t know what I was reading about. This isn’t a slight on the subject matter, because it was something I was super interested to read about, or the author herself. It was more to do with me not being able to follow her writing. 🤷🏼♀️
@@BrittanyBathgate1 I get that. The first half was super interesting and I found that she was able to put to words the feelings and emotions that I too felt as an Asian American woman. I have also heard others say the same thing about the second half. When I first started reading it, I also found it difficult to see what direction she was going in. She definitely ties it up at the end nicely, though. Thanks for sharing!
I hope you don’t mind me pinning this. This question has been asked several times now on this vlog, so I thought it might be helpful to others if my responses sits at the top of the comments 💙
Some things: - I'm delighted that things are looking up for you & Dean, I will keep everything crossed that it works out for you both - Tweezers and/or needles are great for necklace de-tangling, as is a drop of olive oil on the knot to help loosen things up - Lastly, and most importantly, I just wanted to try and articulate why I love your content so much and I think I've figured it out. I'm in my early 30s too but so many of my female friends have had children over the last few years, I've really been missing gabbing with my girlfriends about fashion, holidays, books, online shopping, wine recommendations etc - it's so nice to recreate that "girlfriends sharing tips" sensation in this space, so thank you for providing what I didn't even really notice was missing or how much I valued it until I found your vlogs. Elise x
came back to write you this: i love the intimacy of your videos. and you don't even have to go deep with anything. you just share your thoughts and feelings about mundane things, and i think that's what i enjoy about your vlogs. that's where the intimacy comes from. and again, i love it. thanks for another great vlog exploring beautifully prosaic moments 🌷
I hope you don't mind me saying this, but it's lovely to see how positive you've become since your move/new living situation, the new office and the end of lockdown. As you mentioned the situation with Dean is a private matter, but it's wonderful to see how changing the scenery (as in a new living situation or the new office) can help with our mental health. I don't know you personally, but seeing your humour and positivity shine through stronger every week is wonderful to witness! I really enjoy your content!
I love these Sunday morning vlogs - such a treat! 😊 Edited to add - when I get a tricky knot in a necklace I use a very fine needle, put it through one of the links and wiggle it, it usually works well and so satisfying when you get it untangled!
Absolutely LOVE how you went from the shot of you panicking about accidentally ordering a cocktail with teeny tiny flowers in it, to a shot of you running in 6ft long crops!! 🤣🤣 Your dry wit and humour is astounding!!
i second that! i once stepped in one of my chains and the knots were horrendous it took me 2 days to detangle until i sad down with a 🧷 poked it around for around 20mins and tadaaa
Hi Brittany! I just wanted to tell you that you have inspired me to start running again. I used to love running but stopped because I was battling an eating disorder and was quite ill. I've recovered now and I'm finally at a point where I am able to run because it feels good and not because of anything else. Thank you so much for all your tips on running and your positivity!
Nina, that is such an accomplishment! So proud of you and best of luck with the running. Like Brittany I stop multiple times on runs to take photos; you really get to see some beautiful sights you would miss otherwise. Nice to document the beautiful sunrises/sunsets as you go 💖
So pleased with the garden update! I’ve been re-watching some of your old vlogs during lockdown here in Melbourne & wondered how the plants and such had come along- looks gorgeous
Honestly, I really enjoy seeing your evolution in these vlogs, it helps to gain perspective, and deal with my everyday struggles. I am re-watching your old videos, it is truly amazing how diverse they are, but all equally engaging! One can also see how much you've grown in terms of video making (not that I didn't love your old videos as well!). Your authenticity is truly refreshing, and unique among content creators, your work is truly inspiring, thank you Brittany!
Brittany I love watching your VLOGS - The Teva sandals are cool. Proud of your running achievements. Yes would love to learn more about your story and journey.
Been watching your vlogs/videos since you first started on TH-cam and I can really see you starting to get so much more comfortable in front of the camera and letting more of your humour and personality shine through and its so lovely to watch!
The garden has grown beautifully. Love the loungers Dean built. As soon as I saw the Nike sandals I felt the strap started to high on the foot, the ankle strap appears high as well.
Your bedtime sounds really reasonable , I guess cause that’s around the time I start dozing off lol I struggled getting through a few books past few months, those that were highly recommended. When you can’t connect with the story and characters, it can be hard to even finish. The Deveau yellowish dress is lovely The urban heat island effect is always going to make city centres like London feel hotter than normal. The garden looks so good. You might consider drying the poppies since they don’t last long. I don’t actually know much about flower drying but imagine it could be fun lol
This vlog was perfect! Also thank you for garden update, as someone who enjoyed your gardening process in last year vlogs it was beautiful to see the plants and flowers thriving. Have a beautiful day Brit
I love the detangling necklace - I'm impressed! I have to use straight pins on a hard surface. Love the sandals and the garden too. And fashion. All very enjoyable.
I always find your content so inspiring! In addition to your work history, I would also love a “how to be a freelancer” segment. I’m new to the world and could use any tips on how to prioritize clients, manage your time, etc.
Walking sandal recommendation - Bedrock Sandals. I did all my hiking in them last summer and absolutely loved them! Great support and don't hate the look.
I agree with the others, we don't need more of an update than this on you and Dean, lovely to hear things are going well! Would also like to chime in on the running while dehydrated, my last THREE runs have been awful. I've been dehydrated, tired and have had completely the wrong thing to eat the night before. Been feeling like shit and I just think it's so nice of you to share your bad runs as well, hehe, made me feel less alone. And then it's also just inspiring to see that your next runs went well! Makes me feel less anxious about my next run. Will be keeping in mind to stay hydrated... AND ANOTHER THING I got really bad black nails early in February, and they had been hurting my toes this last month. They do take ages to grow out it's ridiculous. Anyway, I went to podiatrist, and my god, she changed my life. So! If it bugs you a lot and you experience pain, don't just wait it out. Was my first time that I got a foot massage done professionally as well so I think that's why I'm so blown away. That was super super long, really sorry, anyway, love your vlogs and your content! You always find a way to make me smile! xx
In terms of running in the heat, I always try to go in the evening as long as it isn't too humid out. I find that the sun in the morning can be bothersome at times. Thanks for motivating me to want to get back and moving again.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!! As per usual of course! I fell upon your channel just after this past new year and was immediately captivated! A very well done to you! Could you possibly do a video on books? Like what to start with if you're just getting into starting a collection, stores you recommend and such... Through your videos I feel as though I've known you forever and therefore trust all of your recommendations lol
I loved Out! One of the best books I've read in the past few years. The Penguin Vintage Classics Collection, which it's part of, is amazing. The Housekeeper and the Professor is another really wonderful story in that collection with a beautiful cover
I was just wondering about the garden! You were doing it whilst I was doing mine. Looks amazing. Glad to hear that the time apart is working - you both seem like lovely people

I got the Teva Hurricane XLT2 sandals in black for a hiking trip to Austria a couple of years ago. They were brilliant and I was recovering from a broken big toe 🤣👍🏻
Loved it Brittany. Find your videos so relaxing and beautiful. Great news about you and Dean 🤞🏻❤️..garden is so gorgeous... those poppies 😍 and a tip when detangling a necklace grab a needle...Use it to pry the knots apart. Have a great week. You look really fab. Lots of love 😘😘😘
To get the knot out take a safety 🧷 pin open it up and use two of them . The pointy ends of the safety pin will help losen the chain up when u use them to pull it apart aslo place the chain on the table when your doing this. Sounds hard to explain but u will get it . I hope good luck.
The garden looks absolutely lovely! I totally sympathize with the walking sandal search - in the US, Chaco is the reigning brand, but I find that they fit best when you have high arches. I personally love my Tevas. Hugs from Colorado
Teva has a history of being amazing outdoors sandals, so I would probably go with them for the absolute most sturdiness, comfort and longevity! Great content as always 💛
I relate so much to all the running chat in this vlog! Cannot acclimate to the heat... and have the same reaction to the headspace runs! They almost move me to tears and I too wish I could write things down! I would highly recommend some of the other guided (non headspace) runs on the nike app too. Coach bennett is great.

Congrats on your excellent runs! I’m quite motivated at the moment also and like you said, have had to change up my routine to avoid the harsh sun. Thank you for the dehydration tips! So helpful 😅
Thank you! ❤️ Usually I’m not an early riser and would go for a run around 8.30, but because the sunrise starts around 4.30am it makes getting up and getting out there earlier so much easier. 🙌🏻
I read Out when it first published here early 2000's, such a brilliant book and I've been trying to remember who the author was for years so I could read something else from them. So thank you!
That dress was made for you, you look like you are heading to fashion week, how beautiful! Also just purchased Out based on that blurb, sounds so good.
I know exactly what you mean re running go through this every summer. As you say it’s the inconsistency of our weather if it was hot for four months straight eventually you acclimatise. But not here in the UK! I just try to relax about running in the summer. It feels hard because it is harder. I reduce mileage massively and head to woody/shady areas where possible.
I'm excited to try the Nike Run Club headspace runs!! Thanks for the recommendation :) I'm starting to train for a race and hopefully those headspace recordings will help me get through the longer runs 😅
Beautiful the garden looks! Also soo sweet video and nice to hear that things seems good with you and Dean :) Regarding the hiking sandals, i was looking for similar last year but it was difficult and because of covid i paused the hunt. I would love to see more try-out regarding this! i tried teva hurricane but the shape on the foot was really strange (the toes went up in the air a bit if you understand) and also had a hard battle to accept and find something that was more "cool nerdy" hiking and not 70+ comfort sandals look..
I don’t know whether you’ve looked into this brand already, it’s Keen. They have this particular style called Zerrasport II, which I think you might find interesting (and helpful..maybe) as it has a protective design at the front for the toes.
Where are your navy pants from (the one you're wearing starting at 33:09)? Watching your weekly vlogs has become a habit for me! Thanks for putting together this content (almost) weekly!
Hahaha you unknotting your necklace was probably the most stressful thing I've seen in a while :D But am happy to hear that this separate living situation really helped you and your relationship. I was in a similar situation myself - so feel you

I am amazing at detangling jewelry, I was so stressed looking at this because I wanted to teleport through the screen and help you. Anyways, glad you were able to do it. And the garden is looking fav!
I love Natsuo Kirino and "Out" especially, it's such a beautifully dark and twisted story. With glimpses of Japan society, loneliness and loyalty. I hope you enjoy it and looking forward to hearing you talk about what you thought of it.
on the off chance that you’re going to north wales, i wouldn’t recommend wearing walking sandals to go up mountains (unless it’s snowdon) as most of the peaks have a lot of scrambles near the top!:) love the nike ones though!
I personally LOVE my Chaco sandals. I recommend the Cloud version, and I wear a wide, even though I do not need wide in other shoes but in Chaco the wide are just perfect.

Cried a little after hearing the news that things are going well with you and Dean. Stay happy, sweet girl!
For tiny knots- using two thin sewing needles to untangle is really helpful! Had one in an earring that I could not get out and the needles worked.
The garden has grown beautifully. Love the loungers Dean built.

I love Natsuo Kirino and "Out" especially, it's such a beautifully dark and twisted story. With glimpses of Japan society, loneliness and loyalty. I hope you enjoy it and looking forward to hearing you talk about what you thought of it.
Been missing your gardening montages 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I'm so glad you got the knots out
I utterly adore your vlogs. So refreshing, beautiful and funny.
Thank you so much ❤️
on the off chance that you’re going to north wales, i wouldn’t recommend wearing walking sandals to go up mountains (unless it’s snowdon) as most of the peaks have a lot of scrambles near the top!:) love the nike ones though!
wow the pink poppy flowers are really something!
I personally LOVE my Chaco sandals. I recommend the Cloud version, and I wear a wide, even though I do not need wide in other shoes but in Chaco the wide are just perfect.
I wear the standard tevas - they’ve been on Dartmoor, in the river Dart etc and they are very comfortable and sturdy
Not sure if you've seen the Teva Hurricane Sandals but they might be a good option! And doesn't look half bad haha
Totally struggling with the heat/running. I run early but around here, the humidity is a beast.
