    A moment of silence for those who always restarted missions and checkpoints to save the Marines/Friendly Elites, only for them to die at the end of every mission.

      I did it on Legendary when playing through MCC. I did give up on getting them to survive at Regret fight but getting them there was fairly doable. The only real hard part of that is usually when drones attack. Also contrary to what Heed says they are pretty useful especially with beam rifles. On Legendary specifically since they're not weakened like the player is they can actually tank Jackals for you which is nice.

    "You don't want to give the marines rocket launchers" Oh yes you do! Give them both rockets with Sputnik on, those two marines are going to juggle Regret...if they don't blow themselves up first.
    Also question: Does Regret have like, actual "health"? There have been a lot of instances where I'll jump on his chair, and without punching him, he'd just die. I know the "Demon" is scary, but you'd think a Hierarch of the Covenant would be a little brave and not die of fright.

    You can do this solo on H1 - H3 legendary on every missions where marines follow you. I remember having 11 marines at the end of Assault of the Control Room in H1 (the part where the tank spawns is the most difficult for saving them). Also in Gravemind (H2) all 6 of them rock in the last part where elites and brutes are fighting if you give them fuel rods. Good memories.

    For those who want the marines to stay alive, first you have to go alone towards the prophet's fight when you have to go in a kind of boat, 2:05 go on your own and leave the marines alive there and go alone there, leave the marines, nothing will happen to them and you think that they were evacuated

    When I did my solo Legendary playthrough on MCC a few months ago I had them both with me. I had them go rocket launcher and beam rifle once we were out of the first indoor-bridge-indoor section. I never had issues with them getting trapped by buggy pathing in the room with the hologram so I'm not sure what that's about, and I borrowed the rocket launcher to take out the phantom guns in the one spot so those weren't an issue for me. I was surprised they both made it through - I was obviously trying to fight with them and protect them, but I would have carried on if they had died - but there they were outside Regret's little hall in the cutscene. Actually for a relatively casual H2 Legendary run (emphasis on relatively) I was surprised how well that level went for me on the whole up to that point.
    First attempt to get Regret, I was in there fighting and a sword-wielding honor guard charged across the room at me. I took his shields out with two or three fuel rods and then killed him with a closeup BR headshot, but before he even hit the floor, his body got nailed by a rocket that sent my body flying.
    After a string of spectacular deaths by friendly rocket, I realized that the marines had no plans of advancing at all. They were staying up high by the entrance door and simply blowing away anything that moved, so I had to readjust my tactics to stay the hell away from any Covenant footsoldier the rocketeer had a line of sight on.
    Once I figured that out though, this fight I had been dreading since the beginning of Delta Halo turned out to be astonishingly easy. The marines spawnkilled probably 80% of the Covenant that showed up before I even saw them, so all I had to do was stay out of the way, handle any Elites that got past the meat grinder, and beat the space cripple to death. 9/10 would recommend rocketeer marine.

    Surprised you didn’t mention the specific dialogue you get when Chips Dubbo is one of your marines, I know of two areas and the second requires that he be alive through the whole thing with another specific marine.
    Giant Regret hologram in submerged area “oh man he is so dead”
    Second gondola “we’re riding another one” “would you rather swim mate” (need confirmation haven’t been lucky with my marine rng never get chips)

      @Mr.Mud69117 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s also one right before the last gondola where he says something along the lines of “if you don’t think about the aliens trying to kill you, and the fact we’re on a random artificial world, it’s actually kind of fun!” Lmao

    I've tried modding each mission to make all allies invincible (10k health, body recharge fraction of 1, recharge delay/time of 0.1; same as Johnson and Miranda), and it amuses me how there are some missions where they clearly didn't expect you to have surviving allies at the end.
    Obviously something like Regret, well sometimes you just gotta admit that they can't outrun a carrier's glassing cannon, but others like Delta Halo or Outskirts they sorta just run to the end of the mission and then stand around.
    Other missions like Quarantine Zone though, where the Elites are pretty survivable during the Gondola, they will actually tell you they'll stand and guard the Gondola because "this vessel may be our only means of escape". Like they clearly didn't trust the Brutes, and I'll bet they all got slaughtered as soon as Arbiter got the Index.

    I’ve actually had them survive to the part with the hunters quite a few times without breaking my back to keep them alive. But yeah, I’m pretty sure I remember being unable to get them to follow further
    Edit: this is wrong, I remember (at least once) seeing them in the cutscene where chief gets off the gondola. I actually think I remember one living the boss fight or at least having an ambiguous fate, while the other one got smoked by a guard elite instantly.

    • @alpacawithouthat987
      @alpacawithouthat987 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s really easy if you give them beam rifles and constantly rush the enemy. While the Covenant is fighting you the two Marines start picking them off. And for the Hunters I just kept their attention on me and the Marines killed them with grenades and beam rifles

  • @Marksman3434

    Unlike in Halo 1 where you couldn't give em other weapons, in Halo 2 your allies can be super useful if you can give powerful weapons like sniper rifles or explosive weapons like rocket launchers or fuel rod cannons. They help SO much in this mission if you're able to give em that, especially at the start of the mission if you managed to keep a rocket launcher transitioning from the Delta Halo mission.

  • @otminealnamer1385
    @otminealnamer1385 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I always save the marines and give them power weapons. Their unlimited ammo and almost laser-accuracy with them makes them extremely lethal if you can keep fire off of them. That, and they're very useful in the sense they can carry a power weapon for you until you need it later, or extend its use when it only has one shot left. Likewise, giving all your elite allies energy swords on arbiter levels is amazing, especially against the flood.

    Always found it weird that some marines, like these ones or the ones in high charity, are canonically killed off because there's no way they made it. But the game never addresses this. At least at the end of CE Cortana acknowledges that no one else made it (which is wrong but whatever)
