    Eric, his Dad and all that assist on that farm are a testament to how important farms are to this nation and all over the world. While we sit back and enjoy a cold glass of milk while eating cakes, cookies, pies and other desserts we should subscribe and watch these videos which show the extreme hard work and dedication farmers like Eric go through to nourish us each day. Thank you Eric for everything you do for us.

    • @RiDankulous
      @RiDankulous ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the farmers are an integral part of our nation and should be very proud of the work they do. Thank you for your products!

  • @gitatit4046
    @gitatit4046 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    That's probably why your farm has come so far - you don't buy new tractors and equipment just to keep up with the newest models and the latest trends so it's a lot more efficient. As long as you have good and functional equipment to get it accomplished that's what counts, and it saves those $$$$. Thanks for the tour. 👍

    • @RiDankulous
      @RiDankulous ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wondering (I'm no farmer) about the cost effectiveness of having the old tractor fixed, the one that leaks oil. I would assume it's not cost effective, though since they haven't done it. That combined with the fact that it uses more gas than other models then I understand.

    • @gitatit4046
      @gitatit4046 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RiDankulous I agree Joe with fixing what you have is typically cheaper than buying another one. But I guess it eventually gets down to how much good is left in your old one - oil leak now, new injectors next week, alternator gone the day after that, wheel bearings shot, planetary gear has to be replaced at the same time the starter goes, well you get the idea. There is that point of no return.

    • @RiDankulous
      @RiDankulous ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gitatit4046 True, it becomes a money sink eventually.

    Nice tour Eric! Glad to hear you're keeping the tractor your Grandfather/Uncle bought. You've got a couple nice tractors for a restoration when your kids are old enough to appreciate making those memories together with you. Thanks for the tour!

    Awesome Tour,
    I like that you are delegating some of the responsibilities to local companies, you shouldn't stretch yourself too thin trying to do all the jobs as one man. Better to have a team come in and handle the job quickly to give you more time to focus on other things.

  • @chris-zt7eo
    @chris-zt7eo ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm surprised to see so much modern equipment for such a small farm. A lot of the old family farms I used to work on back home still use a lot of equipment from the 60s and 70s, with a few people still running AC 200s and Farmall model Bs. It really speaks for how well you guys are doing for yourselves.

    For more hydraulic outlets on the 4240, you can mount a manual tap to switch between two functions or an electric 6:2 valve

    Nice update on equipment. I'd miss the Grasshopper lawn mower (I remember your old Grasshopper lawn mower- maybe I should get a life LOL), but Toro makes a good mower too. I'm not at all biased: but a John Deere tractor pulling a Kinze corn planter- well... in Iowa, that is a perfect farm- and we have a few nice farms here- so perfect farm award to you!

    Seeing the pile of sweet corn cobs in the spreader that looked like the kernels had been cut off makes me think someone has been putting up corn for the winter. We froze our corn and it was so good in the winter.

      Yeah! Last time he took the papers out of that tube (which is maintenace and warranty documents, I believe) he mentioned that it's a drink holder and 'we don't need those documents' and he tosses them aside. Very funny! 🤣

    You guys take good care of your equipment, so they're serving you well even though they have lots of hours on them. Upgrading tractors to be more fuel efficient ones is a good idea if the cost balances with the fuel costs. Thanks for showing us all the machines you work with. Love the drink compartment!!

    Thanks for the tour. Prior to my dad teaching film making at the University of Southern California, he worked for a small local commercial filmmaker in the early 50s. They did a commercial film for International Harvester where they filmed a combine engine run without water until it glowed red with heat. After it cooled they added water and it started right up!

    Sometimes it works out cheaper to get the contractors in if the work is intermittent and heavy. Better to wear out the contractors gear than your own as breakages can cost big bucks. The only time it pays to use your own gear is if you can't get them in a timely fashion, something you fellas dont seem to have a problem with. The contractors you use are all very efficient and effective.

    Thanks for the great update equipment tour, it’s great to see that you are able to continue to use equipment that someone no longer wants because it’s not the latest model and you are able to do your own maintenance to make them work for longer than they originally would have. Just a quick question (probably been asked before) but would you ever consider having your farm made into a map for us non farmers to play on farming simulator 22 just so we can see what it’s like to be in your shoes on a daily basis
