    Biratnagar Metropolitan City carries historical importance in the Nepalese politics and economy. Biratnagar is a city of multi ethnic and multi cultural people, also known as city of revolutionary. The first large scale industry of Nepal, the Biratnagar Jute Mills, was set up in Biratnagar in 1936. Bordering with India, Biratnagar has some of the largest industrial undertakings and it is facilitating as the industrial and trading hub for the country. Biratnagar as second largest city of Nepal is the gateway for four countries of Asia- India, China, Bhutan and Bangladesh. The city occupies immense geographical importance and it would be a laboratory to know about the Nepalese society.
    With a territory of 77 square kilometers, Biratnagar Metropolitan city is home to approx 300 thousand people. There are 19 wards in the Biratnagar Metropolitan city, which include around 300 small, medium and large scale industries in operation and around 20 hotels. All commercial banks established in Nepal have branches in Biratnagar. Biratnagar as second largest city of the country is an emerging Metropolitan and development friendly city of Nepal. People are skilled and educated to achieve the desired goals.
    The recent reports and data suggest that Biratnagar has emerged as the health and educational hub in the recent time. There are around 120 schools along with number of medical, nursing and engineering colleges is also growing in the city. Around 35 private medical institutions are providing services in the city. Biratnagar being the second largest city and the educational hub in Nepal is an emerging city scholar. Apart from the physical development, the sustainable development in networks of communication would help to develop Biratnagar as a “Knowledge Based City” in Nepal.
