  • Rice and Coconut are a match made in heaven! Koiloreos bring about the greatness of these humble ingredients with such ease, that they make for a quick, simple and easy breakfast option :) If you like to eat them plain, feel free to sweeten it with Sugar (depending also on how sweet the Coconut is)- this can also go well with your evening tea. However, if you prefer dipping it in some savoury dishes/curries, then this recipe will suffice! A hole-y recipe for this season.

    Thank you all and stay blessed ✨
    1 US Cup = 240 ml
    This recipe can make 12 Koiloreos (Rice & Coconut Pancakes)
    Ingredients:
    1 & 1/2 Cups Goan Parboiled Rice
    1 & 1/2 Cups Fresh, Grated Coconut
    Salt to taste (approximately 1 teaspoon)
    Water (a total of 2 Cups; this may vary)
    *Sugar is optional, you may add about 2 Tablespoons
    NOTES:
    • The batter must be coarsely ground and its consistency must be pourable, but not too thin
    • Stir the batter before ladling; pour in one spot and don't spread
    • The pan must be HOT before ladling the batter; so increase the flame to high for each pancake
    • 45-60 seconds after ladling, pores will be seen. Only after the surface is full of holes, cover the pan and lower the flame to medium.
    • Since they are fragile, slide them off the pan onto a plate.

      Hello Shanmugam and thank you! There isn't really a specific dish to eat the Koiloreos with- it can go well with anything! I recommend some spicy curries like a vindaloo or even a lovely, hot fish curry. If you want for a snack, you can try it with jam/butter/chocolate spread too😁

    These look so much like what my late Mother used to make for us during the Monsoons. Perhaps she cooked them in a pan that had a slightly rounded base; they were thicker. We used to relish them with Miscut during the Monsoons.
    I don’t believe she used coconut though… I wonder what they were called. Any idea? I’d love to know, and if you could do a video on the recipe, would greatly appreciate it. Devu borem korun 🙏🏽

      Hello and good morning Lali!
      You can try this with Red rice. It will the same process. The batter can be refrigerated for a day or two, but fresh is always best. If you've already fried the Koiloreos, they can be heated again, yes :)

    Mission Koiloeros : Hunt for that Goan rice ...! Shall make it the moment I get it. Looks quite easy to make. It's somewhere between uttapam and dose. Looks soft yet firm. Has a good crust at the bottom..and the top of it looks spongy..whitish and innocent enough to embrace any masala gravy...!
    I had a question Florency: is adding the leftover rice batter a mandate ? If yes then what's the ratio ? If not then, how will it affect the texture and firmness ?

    • @FlorencyDias
      @FlorencyDias  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Lucky Films, Good morning✨
      Are you into scriptwriting? You have so elaborately described the humble koiloreos making it seem like a king of a meal😎 Wah! Kya baat!
      If you don't find the Goan parboiled rice, you can try the recipe with Red rice. About your question: the leftover rice batter refers to the same soaked rice; I ground the rice in 2 batches (since my mixer-jar is not very large). So, it doesn't refer to any separately kept rice, but just the soaked rice that didn't fit in my mixer🙈 I'm so sorry that it led to a confusion.
      Thank you for asking about it, this way I could clarify😊

      Hello and thank you, Gracy :)
      Traditionally Koiloreos are made from Goan parbolied rice since that variety was (and still is) a staple in the state. It isn't the same as idli rice.
      You can try this recipe with Red rice as a substitute for Parboiled Rice. Hope this helps 💫

      No worries, my dear. If you ever feel like trying this again, just remembered that they must be ground to a paste very well. And the consistency matters, so that will take a little practice. When I was younger, it did take me a while to learn to make a proper flat koiloreo💫
