      I think it's mainly that they're just flow rolling or in any case sparring very lightly. Not sure he would necessarily have gone harder if the guy was his size.

      They're flow rolling. One of the best ways to practise transitions.
      But you gotta have good partners - it's not about submitting.

      Gordon has never went crazy on training partners....even during competition he knows when he has the sub locked in but he would never crank it

      This is frequently how Danaher has his students spar, not flow rolling but about 50% muscle. Its pure tech.

    Rolling without ego is the best way to tell the quality and level of the gym. This video speaks for itself, no one learns if no one is allowed to work. Wonderful session by everyone on the mats. Thank you for letting us see it.

      Yes. You are right. Our training partners are on a journey too, so allowing them to be creative during rolls helps them tremendously which in turn helps us and the entire grappling community. It’s how we grow as an art form.

    you can see the moments gordon is letting his partner figure out what to do and using only technique to counter..imagine having the best grappler of all time as your partner and he isn't humiliating you every three seconds..good stuff

    Gordon on the mat is an absolute gentleman, in training and in competition. I find it interesting that it almost doesn't match his social media persona

    Thanks Flo for dropping a great example of how a more knowledgeable jiu jitsu player doesn’t have to head pull or do jerk moves (Bully Jits) to lower belts while they roll with them. A good roll with a higher belt doesn’t have to be a fight for your life and limbs.

    It's really mesmerizing to see a behemoth of a man who's a master of the art just lightly and nicely control and dominate his partner while still letting him work. Gordan Ryan is unreal.

    Gordon rolling, or even fighting, is very interesting because he doesn't look to be using strenght... it seems he uses it just on specific moments but most of the time he is using some leverage and relaxing... it is very impressive how he mastered jiu jitsu. I'm impressed with him.

    guys like Gordon and Craig Jones are so good its ridiculous. I was watching Craig submit ADCC qualifiers and black belt UFC fighters like they were white belts. Its really amazing to watch guys that good.

    Gordon is awesome as always his game is rich annd complex with moves you wouldn't even think of while never forgetting the basics but I was surprised by his sparring partner damn that kid got some moves and he's stunningly elusive in his game too I couldn't escape half of the attacks he flew by in a few seconds, that was an awesome training fight thanks !

    I would rather watch this then 9 out of 10 other BJJ matches. You understand the art a lot more by watching flow rolling. Plus, it's just so satisfying to watch them enter and escape positions!

    every one is commenting re: gordon but the man he's training with has extremely crisp movement. very light and yes uses some of that speed in certain transitions but moving very precise and technically. i'm sure he's a complete hammer against the guys in his division.

      I didn’t see it that way. The smaller guy was going too fast all the time and had only one guard pass from standing position. Every pass he got came because Gordon let him do it. His straight ankle locks weren’t working even though Gordon just sat there doing nothing, letting the guy tighten the locks.

    Gordon has to talk to build hype around matches. But he looks like a great training partner. Literally being loose and letting his partner have advantages, passes and sweeps. And not just being a huge guy.
