Guys you don't need to memorize all the 100+ combo oh you forgot also to mention there are all movelist and main movelist it's the summary on movelist that usually players do so it's more easy to grasp the character in terms of playing it
@@DudiReviews Your take on the story is the most surprising. All recent MK games have had a better story than any Tekken games. And I say this as a lifelong Tekken player. I prefer the fighting in Tekken, but the story in MK, particularly since 9, has been substantially better
Fatalities are not part of the combat or gameplay, it's a cutscene that you watch over and over again, after the fight been alread decide. Tekken is thousand times more in deep in his gameplay than MK1
In 1991, Street Fighter II became a phenomenon! In 1992, Mortal Kombat became a phenomenon! 1996, Tekken 2 made you put Street Fighter down and made you forget about Mortal Kombat. 1998, Tekken 3 made you forget about 2D fighting games all together.
@@yaqubebased1961 In Japan! In the states, it’s only credited as the first 3D Fighter. Virtua Fighter 1 and 2 did turn heads. Virtua Fighter 5, Tekken 4 and DOA 3 came out around the same time.
Tekken 8 blows MK1 out of the water. Not even looking at the stories, there's just more to do in Tekken. MK1's biggest flaw is how terribly barebones it is. There's next to nothing to do or work towards after you complete the story except online, and even the online is as barren as it gets (there aren't even lobbies like there have been in every modern MK game since MK9). Invasions is a grindfest that quickly gets repetitive (along with just downright frustrating modifiers at times) and towers aren't worth the effort because the rewards are so subpar. The monetization is also subpar at best with skins being so scarce and not all of them being good (and buying fatalities, lol). Tekken in contrast has the main story, Character episodes, the fight lounge, arcade quest, arcade battle, Tekken Ball, the jukebox, etc. Customization is not even worth discussing, Tekken has had the best customization in fighting games for a while. There's just so much more that went into Tekken 8.
So many good choices within the past few years. Guilty Gear Strive, Under Night 2 (if you're not on PC), MK1, SF6, KOF XV, and T8. Great stuff, and something for everyone.
@@IsureamFalling I mean sure, there's plenty of franchises that I want to see a sequel to. Soul Calibur, Darkstalkers, Bloody Roar, Virtua Fighter, and more. Though what we currently got in this generation is certainly pretty good, even if not perfect.
True for sure. The big 3 all these years later still. MK 1 has indeed soured me a little but I still play it from time to time. I can’t bring myself to shit on it. Both games were my childhood, teenage years and now my adulthood. I love both for different reason but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t having more fun with Tekken 8.
@@Indipender people don't have to talk about the game for it to be fun, if we go according to your logic then most games lost to time cause no TH-camr decided to talk about it are just not fun or bad, but no offence to Mortal Kombat 1, heck I grew up with it but I would rather play Street Fighter 6 over that, and I would definitely play Tekken 8 if I had a choice over all 3
What? Are you delusional? In tekken you literally can’t move there is no mobility you just stand there and mash buttons and attacks. All it has is a side step that only high level tekken players use. There is no flexibility
@@vlad-ut1szfalse u can move run side step multiple defenceman wake up options korean back dash,mk1 is raiden kano and I play them!,steal turn back plus frames into safe stuff headache with disconnects
@@benjamindaniels9828 I do agree with the raiden Kano part but about the tekken part no you just feel stuck there right infront of your opponent the “movement” is not optimal and the gameplan is the same for everyone. (Just hit your opponent)
Tekken 8 is so far the best Tekken game since Tekken 5. Would love to see more features added in the future, like Tekken Tag arcade mode and adding tekken bowling. I also like to see Bandi/Namco release and remaster classic Tekken games like 1,2,3,4,5,6, and classic Tekken Tag Tournament games since their celebrating 30th anniversary of the series.
MK 1 is slow and stiff and the combos feel really repetitive. Tekken 8 is fast but calculated and also fluid. The combos have a rhythm and the audio and visuals have an impact you can feel. Tekken 8 FEELS like you’re ACTUALLY fighting, not just pressing a string inputs. Tekken 8 combos are also more rewarding. In addition to the combat, Tekken 8 has an entertaining story, FREE skins and customizables. It’s just a better game overall even for your wallet.
It’s Tekken quite obvious, Mortal Kombat has started to look more and more like a superhero game rather than a martial arts one, Tekken is simply more realistic in terms of the fighting, it feels, plays, and looks more real.
It’s not just that tekken is pretty much better in terms of Cosmetics, fights, story, and maps are obviously more cooler. Everything in mk1 feels like a stupid chore nothing in the game feels fun besides the beginning of the story
A couple notes about Tekken 8 story/characters/content that you may have missed: The game does offer a quick synopsis of the whole story in the game when you boot it up, and all characters have their own "character episodes" with a full CG ending that provides some info on what's going on with them (although quite a few are non-canon and for comic relief). There's Tekken Ball too for some deceptively entertaining casual fun.
Haven't played neither of the newest entries, but based on previous games, weren't the Tekken developers just copy-paste'ing their gameplay from game to game, having close to zero innovation? I've had the impression that their gameplay probably peaked in Tekken 3.. Has it somehow changed? Would love to try a Tekken game one day again, but have been burned a few too many times by how boringly stuck they are in trying to copy something that worked about 25 years ago, with diminishing results in achieving anything close to fun.
Tekken has seemed like a game franchise for people who only want to wear the same clothes, listen to the same music, eat the same food for three decades in a row. If it's true that there has been change in that, I might very well try the new one at some point.
@@udopadrik9971yeah just be quiet you have no clue what you're talking about tekken 3 - tekken 7 are VASTLY different. Crumple animations, low crushes, high crushes, power rushes, rage, bound combo system, rage drive, rage art. Tekken 8 has added even more. Each character has atleast 85 moves. Some have over 100. Tekken 3 each character had about 20 moves max maybe less.
@@benjinlama8108 And somehow an overburdened and bloated move set automatically translates to a good game? How does the amount of moves define how good a game is? Chess doesn't have a very big move set, nor does the game of poker, but look at the staying power of those. Why should fighting games be mainly measured by how many moves the developers decided to cram into the game? I think at times a lot of moves could be beneficial, at other times detrimental.
After spending plenty of time on SF6 when MK1 came out, the mk1 characters felt stiff and movements seemed robot-like.. Playing Tekken 8 now..what a game!
@@DudiReviews indeed oh speaking of tekken 8 I also did do my own review of tekken 8 as well on my channel if you want to check it out when you have time of course no rush.
He is no doubt a casual that has not mastered a tekken character else he would know how shalow mk is compared to one of the most complex fighting games ever period he is alone in this if you look all reviews of tekken are 10 and 5 out of 5s teens music is so much better and combat oh and ev every thing mk 11 was actually better
I could be labbing for hours on tekken training mode, it almost feels like 8 years ago when i expended hours in blazblue training mode, it's soo frestyle and there is always time to see something new, the only thing i could lab on MK1 ehere smoke vapor cancels, and that is because he has that, if i played any pther character there would be nothing to lab except MUs
Delusional. The fact I loaded up Tekken 7 today. Waiting to get 8, and Jin’s move set is still the SAME. After all these years, I’m finna be 27 and still remember the 10 hit combo with Jin. Something I learned when I was 12. Mk will NEVER have better combat, deep is an understatement for tekkens combat. I have only truly mastered 3 people, whereas with mk I can be Lowkey decent with almost anybody. Tekken is a FIGHTING game, so many various styles that are used. SO MANY FUCKIN MOVES TO LEARN. Tekken is my 🐐
tekken combos are fun when you pull them out because there are like 100 combos for each character, mk1 combos are good because of the return of air combos so you got more combos to try and I don’t really care for the mk1 story after act 1, the story for tekken is so goofy it’s funny and the fact the public doesn’t care when kaz just says at the beginning that he will destroy their countries if one of them loses is fucking funny and all they care about is the tournament is dumb funny
@@DDRjason I don't know if you're joking or not😅 . Nobody who plays both games thinks that. The movelist of one Tekken character is worth 10 Mortal Kombat characters. King by himself has 233+ moves . No one ever plays King the same way. If you're new to fighting games and don't know what "Neutral" is , MK's neutral is just limited in options compared to TK. It's a joke in comparison When Sonicfox was winning every NRS tournament, they asked him to try a real competitive fighting game like Tekken or Sf. Cause NRS games are dirt easy.
I would give combat to tekken. It never gets stale and every player has over 100 moves on their commands list which gives players the freedom to put their own style into their characters fighting.
I like them all, mk1, sf6 tkn 8, i can honestly say tkn 8 is the benchmark...brilliant...a lot to learn but wow what a polished game, i cant fault it, pure fighting...10 / 10 for me,
@@ahsanzafeer5048 , everything, graphics, training mode, amount of moves, netcode, big combos, it's just brilliant, give it a go, have to be willing to learn took a while to get the basics
I don't think you can compare the 2 being different styles. Both are good games just play both, when you get bored of 2d fighting switch from mk1 to tekken 8 and play a 3d one.
Tekken 8 is not only a better game, it's a contender for one of the best fighting games ever made. I would say Street Fighter 6 is a contender for that as well. What do those games have in common? Content/modes, deep mechanics, deep customization, and a AAA presentation. Best of all is both games teach the player how to play their games as well as standard fighting game mechanics as a whole. Both also provide the tools for players to effectively practice what they've learned. MK1 does very little of that. The game has no content outside of story and online (Invasions is trash and not worth the frustration). New mechanics were added at the expense of decent sized move lists for characters. Customization is a step down from previous titles and the overall presentation is less impressive than it's competitors. Then theres the premium store and the fact that a lot is broken or buggy is a whole other can of worms. I wanted MK to succeed but it got a lot wrong.
Like these a lot more than the cartoonish "aimed for 10 year olds" look that most fighting games seem to want to stick to and honestly the developers of Street Fighter, Tekken and Soul Calibur have stuck to for slightly tooo long. Yeah, MK has been stuck there as well, but I definitely applaud their decisions to experiment slightly away from the aesthetics of something aimed at children. Mortal Kombat franchise has been one of only a few fighting game franchises playing which I haven't felt like being similar to middle-aged women playing with barbies and crushing over "Twilight" characters.
I liked MK1's story mode better than Tekken 8's but there isn't alot of offline content after that, other than Towers & Invasions. However, Tekken 8's gameplay is far superior imo, and there is so much offline content to get into after you finish the Story. Can't get enough of playing as Hwoarang & Law. Victor & Azucena are pretty dope additions to the roster & fun to play as well.
I'm glad you actually chose a clear winner by the end. I'm so used to "which is better" videos making sure to give it a tie😂. Also your discussion on the games felt fair and honest about the good and not as good.
Because every character has 200 moves? Who cares no one is using them anyway it’s just a cheap way to deepen the gameplay, the kameo system is much better and the creativity in mk
@@vlad-ut1sz A lot of people care and use many options In tekken you're not limited to one or two combos, in mk everyone knows what combo you'll go for because that's your only option The cameos add variety but they're still waaay less than tekken
@@vlad-ut1szmk1 is soo limited when it comes to combos all you do is spam the same combo repeatedly And let’s not forget story mode when you literally beat the game just by spamming block+uppercut
I hate it when people pit games against each other because then the comments turn into a war zone. Everyone is just too fucking stupid to open their eyes and realise you can like both games. Just because one is better doesn't mean you have to insult the other and refuse to play it. I like T8 and MK1 but I like T8 more. That doesn't mean I won't have a good time playing MK1.
MK1 is way better then Tekken in my opinion. The fighting is more deeper then Tekken, the graphics is x5 better and has more content. Tekken is filled with unlikeable characters which no one will remember and the fighting is too clunky and stiff. Plus no projectile? No fatality? Cmon, MK is miles ahead better
Literally how on earth are you going to argue that MK1 has better graphics than tekken 8, you literal went on an entire argument about how they re-used a lot of aspects for the models but "oh the gore looks nice", even ignoring that have you SEEN just how damn bad a lot of the animations look, that alone should give tekken the edge, especially when the only critisism you gave was that it looks a bit "anime", which barely even counts. Honestly with that and mk1 winning the combat category not because of its combat but just because you like fatalities and "the moves are more iconic" whatever that means, it feels like mk1 only won those to make the comparison artifically closer than it actually is
These are all literally free points because Tekken 8 was gonna destroy in all categories. Plus realistically, Tekken 8 doesn't even look like anime because anime clearly has an entirely different art style and anime isn't the only place where characters are buff.
I tought the exact same... Graphics: Tekken Depth: Tekken Monetization: Tekken (ofc) Combat: Tekken Gamemodes: Tekken Practice tool: Tekken Customization: Tekken Gore for 13yo: MK Story: Tekken (multiverses ruin character investment) Online: sometimes i think MK has delay based netcode...
As a huge Mortal Kombat fan pretty much from day one way back when, and having tons of fandom and nostalgia for it. Tekken 8 is the better game of these two, by a pretty large margin. It kinda pains me to say it, but it is absolutely the case.
Mk1's cinematic sequences in the story mode are better and it maintains a good balance of humour and serious moments. That being said, Tekken 8 is by no means offer a bad story; however, it's mostly a single character focused and quite short. I liked the bromance showed in mk1 and how they treated the characters in the new era. As for Tekken 8, it wins in every other aspect- content, overall fight mechanics, music, customisation. Graphics are great in both games.
good video, personally I don't agree at all with the graphics, MK 1 has a slightly improved version of unreal engine 4 that looks very nice but does not reach the level of detail of tekken 8 that uses unreal engine 5 and It also looks worse than mk 11 in some artistic aspects.
I can agree with this. I've always said that Bandai Namco somehow puts out some of the highest quality cutscenes for a fighting game. That's my two cents on it
@@kingofdragons7 Oh yeah? I doubt it and I doubt it a lot, sometimes things don't go the way you want and this time they bet on a very bad play, playing mk 11 is like going back to the future, you know what I'm saying? I have never played Tekken and it seems that at least it has more gameplay where the combos don't last almost a minute anyway... mk this time it wasn't even close 💔
i make these style of videos if you're unsure on which one you should play/try out - did the same thing with Dead Space and RE4 remake. it is all personal preference though
Here is my take after watching your video: Story: Both are great and newbie friendly yet both are rewarding if you are a long time fan. Gameplay: Depends. Want more flashy ang simple strings - MK, Want something that you can sink in learning - Tekken Content - Tekken wins. MK Invasion is boring and online options is lackluster. Arcade Quest is a fun way to teach a newbie about fighting games, not just Tekken Customization - MK design wise. Both are limited but MK is just good to look at Hotel - Trivago
I own both games and i enjoyed MK1 so much but Tekken 8 is just so much better in every way Its way flashier, more fun and way deeper in its mechanics MK1’s movelists didnt have much else to them so it got old fast
I have a question, I’n Tekken 8 when playing story mode, Is it possible to just skip the cut scenes and just do the battles to complete all the chapters?
MK1 story is a joke. The writers ruined all the characters. No respect. Gameplay is controversial and the game is incomplete and relies on grinding. Tekken is a lot more enjoyable and complete experience and the writers respect the characters and the story.
Tekken for unskilled players mk for skilled players or even adaptive players. Trust me I tried both, when you learn combos in mk it feels very rewarding and you can always create new variations of a combo whether you use amplifier or not, Change the cameo, or change the moves, in Tekken you just really mash buttons even when you miss a little the combo still kinda hits. I Litteraly made a combo 1 hour in playing mk1. Not mentioning the visuals, unlike tekken that feels cheap.
Agreed Tekken 8 is not only the better overall package. Might be amount the best fighters ever. Just feels so good to play and learn, like you said you really feel like you earn your ability. Kinda like the dark souls of fighting games, challenging enough, but super satisfying when you do it.
Tekken 8 all the way!! Especially being a martial artist, the fighting and fighting style is amazing in Tekken 8! I played SF6, Tekken 8, and MK1. And Tekken 8 is the best followed by SF6. Much more interested in playing as each character and learning their combos in Tekken 8 then MK. Also combos and combat is so much different. MK I’d like 1,2, special to pop up, 1, 2 special. Not that shallow but that’s how most combos go. I’m so m Tekken it’s way better and intriguing and harder. Much more satisfying
The slow pace to address quality of life features and basic modes peomised at launch is why MK1 is struggling. The gameplay while fun is too simple bc im sure some executives thought a higher skill ceiling would drive awya casual players. The lack of content, crossplay, poor netcode drove away most of the competitive and hardcore playerbase within a couple of months. Ed Boom is GOAT, but joking about which quality of life festures to inplement next like online practice mode/crossplay in a poll on twitter i cheeky asf. Fate of MK1 is kinda deserved
Tekken is the God of fighting games. I grew up with both these games, Tekken wins hands down mainly because of variety. There is so much more you an do in Tekken. The competitiveness is of the charts in Tekken, you literally sweat when up against a great opponent, it becomes a game of chess. Of all the fighting games, I have never gotten bored with Tekken, when you lose, you make it a mission to get back up, become better until you win. Tekken is the only game where I can say I want a worthy opponent, make my blood rush. Make me a better fighter.
The only thing that makes me hesitant to even play Tekken is the fan base. The amount of salty hatred towards mk in these comments is wiiiillldddd dawg. I’ve gone to 3 review videos and all the comments are just,”mk did….”, “mk doesn’t…”, “mk is so stiff…”. Great mk ad. A dude down below is even talking like he lives in an anime here…. My guy literally said, “the guy who made this video is no doubt a casual that has yet to master…” Wtf are we doing folks??💀 they’re just games… dang, but if all the comments in the last 3 videos I watched are about mk (even in Tekken specific videos), Tekken must truly be a great game, lol. 😭
Mortal Kombat brings new move lists for every character in their every new game. Plus, the graphics of the game improved massively. But what do we have in Tekken? Same move lists that existed almost 10 years ago. Graphics are also almost same. But I do like how Tekken has more in depth customization. But overall, I think MK is a better fighting game.
MK1 is just on overall lazy game. Gameplay is alright but evrything else is terrible. Tekken 8 its honestly hard to find cons that make them game worse. Its damn near perfect. MK1 6/10 Tekken 8 9.5/10
After playing both, something I want to add is that a lot of moves in MK1 don’t feel satisfying or even that hard hitting, which is odd to say about a game that sells itself on its hard hitting violence. It also means that learning a character in MK1 doesn’t feel as fun as it should be. With Tekken 8 on the other hand, so many moves feel great to hit with which helps learning the game a lot more fun. Plus the sound design behind the Tekken 8 hits might as well be its own brand of dopamine injection.
Mk1 just needs to take the handcuffs off the kameoz ..and stop being lazy with the cosmetics....that said these are two different games and can exist in the same space
Tekken 8: A true 3D fighter, requires skills and timing, requires you to be creative, adaptive, intelligent, and open to growth. Incorporates some qualities from realistic fighting styles. MK1: 2D fighter with 3D characters. Requires you to remember combos and fatalities....... Tekken will ALWAYS be a superior game.🫳🏽🎤
Mk1 is sad to say for now more balance than tekken 😂 I’ll take mk1 FOR now but I see where everyone coming from with the lack of content mk1 brings but buddy tekken 8 I don’t want to hear how fair it is with broken grabs that are UNTECHABLE, the amount of mix ain’t compared to mk1 mix at least I got a chance to reset neutral 😂, and honestly i really starting to like tekken but damn can they tone it down just a little bit got damn I been getting cooked by the new characters
The only unbreakable throw is dragunov tackle while in heat and you can break the followup that is where 90% of tge damage of that move comes from, any other unbreakable throw is because it was used as a counter or because it was a low throw that only throws crouching apponents
Well, let's see what happens when Heihachi Mishima gameplay trailer will be revealed tomorrow. Well Tekken has always been about the Mishima's. But you know, I have played Tekken since 2004. T4 to T8. Can't seem to get enough of it.
Bruh WTF Tekken easily beats Mortal Kombat in combat section Mortal Kombat is so janky and has always been and counting fatality is stupid. Tekken doesn't have iconic music? Bruh i can say the same thing about Mortal Kombat and who needs Megan Fox when Tekken has Vincent Cassel. Mortal Kombat won in graphics .... Wow you're trying really hard to let MK win and yes again using Fatality as an excuse. Yoshimitsu and Bryan literally doesn't need character development.
I maybe one of the very few, but I still prefer MK... I just prefer MK's SPECIAL moves over Tekkens' MOVES... And the fact that you can creatively MURDER your opponent that neither SF, Tekken and soul caliber offers... Though they get old once you see them over and over again... I am just waiting for the new season and new skins to unlock for my main Tanya... Just playing Tekken to kill time before that...
I haven’t played tekken but from what I’ve seen it’s more beginner friendly than mortal combat. mortal kombat kombos are harder to hit consistently just because the timing of every combo is so rigid and the speed required for the inputs it’s so fast. I think I’m going to try tekken for a more casual experience. I still want the competitiveness but I don’t want to have to sit in lab practicing one combo for says
@@Jaffack for beginner play it is 100% easier. What are you smoking? I just tried the demo, threw on special controls and could beat a very hard difficulty cpu by mashing
i was a ps1 kid so i loved tekken 3 and later tekken 5 so i'm heavily biased but for me tekken 8 is leagues ahead of the other fighting games. so many features to learn the game and have fun even offline in 8, the graphics are amazing, gameplay slaps, the characters are all cool af and i can't believe i'm saying his but i'm even invested with the story, going as far as to hope for a dlc story in the upcoming years to see what will happen with reina. tekken 8 honestly might be the best fighting game ever made, while mk1 isn't even as good as previous entries.
all great points, as someone who's only just joined the FGC, AND! Picked up both games... I personally lean more towards the Tekken side. I learned a combo and fatality input for Johnny Cage on MK1, and that was all I ever did, with the added combo stops and cameo interactions for extra damage or annoyance, where as Tekken I picked up Jack-8 (yeah I know, whatever, shut up), I then had to find a low starter, pokes, punisher combos, high starter, ground connects, standard punish, whif punishes, low combos, high combos and learn how to see and read lows and grabs from all 32 characters AND THEIR COMBOS! also sidestep heavies and unblockables, the combat in my opinion is Tekkens win from the get go HOWEVER!! Like I said I've only just picked up fighting games, and with around 30-50 hours in each and nothing else to go off of I can't really give a valid opinion, BUT I really enjoyed this video man!! thankyou for putting your opinion out there!! all of them matter!! 😃 subbed btw, great content!! 👌
There are pros and cons of both Tekken 8 and mk1. Tekken 8 has some features which as an mk fan I would love mk to adopt and mk has a better structure to its frame data and some parts of its training modes. Mk1 was technically the most flawless and perfect mk but it is short of content and a soul. A fairer comparison would have been Tekken 8 v/s mk11 which are more evenly matched ! The only thing I don't like about Tekken 8 is that at times it is too bright and sparkly even compared to Tekken 7 and unnecessarily every damn move is a cosmic explosion! That can irritate a bit even if you are not photosensitive. While I am really impressed by Tekken 8s depth if content and options such as advice on your replays, specials mode, AI ghosts, training mode in online lobby with live frame data etc. the sparkliness and distance between characters, and consistency of controls in online play could improve. But yeah Bandai Namco is certainly putting more effort in providing tons of content even a good free demo to attract more players and promptly addressed fan feedback and initial balance issues in Tekken 8. But yeah the unreal 5 graphics weren't much better than MK1 even in ultra. In summary due to depth of content and revolutionary new features Tekken is better in my book, but anyway love the technical fluency and lore of mk.
The biggest advantage Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 have is they're fun to watch in tournaments. Even if you don't know what's going on, you can enjoy all the sick combos and cinematics throughout the fight MK1 while not terrible, feels like watching a faster MK11 with some characters sliding in and out occasionally and is nowhere near as exciting as T8 or SF6
I’ve put 50+hrs into T8 so far and all I’ve been playing is the Arcade story and customization stuff…Still haven’t even touched the Story mode yet…With MK1 I completed the story mode, tried out the “board game” thing for a bit, messed around with OmniMan for a while, and then was pretty much done with the disc until it was time to trade it in for Tekken 🤷🏽
For me, before I go into what I'd pick for each category and why, I'll clarify that I've only played a few TEKKEN games myself (2, 3, 7, & 8 to be exact) and all the mainline 2D MK games. Going into each category: Story (SPOILER WARNING FOR BOTH GAMES and TEKKEN 7): So I definitely would say TEKKEN 8's story is an improvement over TEKKEN 7's. (The narrator from TEKKEN 7's was just so pace breaking imo) And I feel like MK1 is the best NRS MK story. With TEKKEN 8, while there was definitely a bigger focus on the Mishima/Kazama bloodline over other characters, I felt like the story felt more tightly knit and complete overall. I also really like how there can even be story elements weaved in minor ways throughout battles. The final battle between Jin and Kazuya was also, alongside the final battle between Kazuya and Heihachi in TEKKEN 7 peak final battles for fighting games) With MK1, I don't feel the changes bothered me at all with Lui Kang's timeline, and if the story stayed focused on Lui Kang's timeline, I maybe would've given the point to MK1 in this regard, but the moment it decided to delve into a multiverse war, the story lost its sense of focus imo and it started going downhill in terms of quality. Because of that, I would give TEKKEN 8 the point. Combat: This one I will admit is tough imo since I do believe both games have a good combat system. While I appreciate MK1's attempt to add something new to their combat with the Kameo system, I do feel it can be overcentralizing at times and until debatably Tremor, but definitely Khameleon (which would give MK1 an advantage since TEKKEN hasn't had an opportunity yet for DLC characters to come out, where as Tremor and Khameleon were only added as a DLC Kameos), I felt like the Kameos didn't have enough depth to them. That being said, I do also appreciate the fatalities in MK1 as well. It's a very close point and I do feel the Kameo system does have potential, but I'd give the point to TEKKEN 8. Sound Design: I'll give some praise to MK1 for it being better than it's been in previous MK games (like not making me think "Does this game even have a soundtrack after I turn it off?" Already an improvement in that way.), but this one goes to TEKKEN 8 imo and it's not even close. (And I'm saying this while intentionally ignoring the jukebox feature to try and level the playing field) I'm not even into the genre of music that TEKKEN games have (I'm more of a Guilty Gear/BlazBlue guy in that regard), but the music of TEKKEN 8 is so good not only in game, but even at the gym, it feels so good to listen to. I also just find TEKKEN's sound effects so much more satisfying to hear as well during the fights. When it comes to the VAs, MK1 has Megan Fox's performance as Nitara. TEKKEN 8 wins already based off that alone imo. Graphics: This point I definitely believe will come down to personal preference as both games are great graphically. For me, I prefer TEKKEN 8's visual style. Characters: With MK1, I honestly wish that NRS went a little bit further in terms of how much they changed. For example, controversial take incoming, but I didn't mind at all Kuai Liang being Scorpion in this timeline instead of Hanzo Hasashi. I also liked Mileena, Reptile, and Baraka being redeemed in this timeline, but then there's characters that I don't feel were changed at all like General Shao (No. Being nerfed in terms of power doesn't equate to a change in character imo) or Johnny Cage, and then there were others I feel were changed for the worse. (Sub-Zero comes to mind. I feel like it felt way too straight up "One brother is bad. The other one is good." When I feel like having some shades of gray in there would've benefitted it) TEKKEN 8 on the other hand? There's characters I feel were handled perfectly. For example, minus Asuka, everyone in the Mishima/Kazama bloodline were the best handled characters of both games. I also feel characters like Xiaoyu and Leroy were handled well as well. There were characters I feel served their purpose, and then there were some characters I feel were just there. (Paul, Law, the Jack models, Nina, Steve Fox. Even to a lesser extent, Asuka and Lili I'd say) For this, I may be alone on this, but because I honestly liked a lot of the changes MK1 made to their characters, I'd slightly give the point to MK1 here. (With the caveat that I do understand that it would make sense for anyone to go the other way if they didn't like the changes) Shelf Life: MK1 I feel has been a posterchild example of how NOT to handle a game post launch and this is a TEKKEN 8 point to me easily. With Invasions Mode, I feel it could've been good if it was either more varied or if it was half as long per season, but as it is? It sucks. And the microtransactions are awful imo. I also really wish that with the skins, it would change the character and voice direction of the character as well. (It doesn't make sense for Deadly Alliance Scorpion to be Kuai Liang to me or MK3 Sub-Zero to still be Bi-Han) The Microtransactions argument is a bit out of date with the TEKKEN shop announcement, but the prices are still so much more bearable in TEKKEN's favour compared to MK1's. When also factoring in character customization (even if it's not the best in that regard imo as it currently stands even when compared to TEKKEN 7), TEKKEN Arcade & TEKKEN Ball among any potential future modes, I feel like TEKKEN dominates this category. Overall, while I feel MK1 has potential and does have a lot going for it, I just feel like TEKKEN 8 does quite a bit better and MK1 feels way too barebones in comparison. Heck, even if we were comparing MK1 to Street Fighter 6, MK1 I feel is too barebones even compared to that game.
Tekken 8 has a customization mode with free cosmetics you can grind for in game. Tekken 8 is worth a good $60 (not the full 70$) Mortal Kombat 1 has an in-game shop for you to buy currencies to get skins. MK1's base game is probably worth 40$ at most or if they wanted to fully commit to this microtransaction shop, they should've maybe charged 20$ tops. 70$ is ludicrous.
I love all three games tbh. Then again, sf6 and t8 were my first of their series. I do love mk1 the most, but god damn the delay lack of more modes from games like mk9 with their online options.
MK1 had a really dope story mode UNTIL the stupid ass multiverse was introduced.. If they’re just gunna waste a reboot that terribly, they might as well focus on other things like Shaolin Monks or a better Conquest mode for the casual gamers, which MK1 is clearly made for
My brother is the biggest MK fanboy. He thinks the Kameo system is a great addition… meanwhile we’re over here getting blessed by Tekken 8 & Street Fighter 6. Much better games imo.
I rather play MK11 than MK1. I Like the Story in MK11 plus its expansion meanwhile the towers of time are pretty straight forward and fun IMO and the customization is way better plus the fatalities in MK11 are way better and so are the DLC characters plus the Kript is more rewarding than MK1 invasion. Haven't played Tekken 8 yet but i do own its predecessor and yes i have fun with that one too and I'm looking forward to it. As for Street Fighter i will stick with 5 for now on thanks to PS plus and did the Champion Edition upgrade for like 25 bucks or so and got a plethora of great stuff.

Whenever someone says mk is more realistic they only talk about the gore and anatomy. But Tekkens fighting style is much more grounded in realism seeing as they have actual martial arts in their characters, for example jinn his karate is based on kyokushin, my friend practice kyokushin my friend who is already a high belt recognized all the kyokushin moves. For me I’ve never really cared about their bodies, like your telling me their fighting devils robots and they have a “realistic body” I’d say your full of crap.
Tekken has the players learn the moves which is hard but way more rewarding
Nothing more satisfying than nailing a sweet combo

Cheers my dude :) yup they're in my other Tekken 8 video
MK1 kombat is better than Tekken? Bruh I'm done.

Why should fighting games be mainly measured by how many moves the developers decided to cram into the game? I think at times a lot of moves could be beneficial, at other times detrimental.

Biggest thing hurting SF6 is the abysmal cosmetic prices. Like $20 a costume
MK1 costumes look much worse than past entries, these look so simple and plain.
Not wrong dude. Some skins are just from the campaign or color changes
I’m not gonna even start on Rains new design lool oh my 🗑️
That was kinda the point tho.

Tekken is filled with unlikeable characters which no one will remember and the fighting is too clunky and stiff. Plus no projectile? No fatality? Cmon, MK is miles ahead better
No one will ever ever beat me in MK1 by button mashing
Plus realistically, Tekken 8 doesn't even look like anime because anime clearly has an entirely different art style and anime isn't the only place where characters are buff.

how many battles are there in story mode I know they’re in 15 chapters, but like how many battles/fights are there??
Some are 3-4 fights per chapter. Some are 2
Ok got it
Agreed Tekken 8 is not only the better overall package. Might be amount the best fighters ever. Just feels so good to play and learn, like you said you really feel like you earn your ability. Kinda like the dark souls of fighting games, challenging enough, but super satisfying when you do it.
Why not Both? I enjoy both MK1 and Tekken 8. Doesnt always needs to be about whats better. Im just glad we got the games
Glad you enjoy both my dude 🍻
Comparison videos are helpful when these games are $50+
Tekken rewards veterans. MK always changes shit for no reason and I hate that. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!!!!
Much more satisfying
nice one mate! glad you enjoy all fighters to some degree - need to check out SF6
Mortal kombat 1 isn’t like bad, but it’s not even top 5 fighting game released in the last 5 years. Tekken is top 2
What's your #1?
Tekken 8 theres no need to even debate this ..next
I read this like poppy from Seinfeld
The slow pace to address quality of life features and basic modes peomised at launch is why MK1 is struggling. The gameplay while fun is too simple bc im sure some executives thought a higher skill ceiling would drive awya casual players. The lack of content, crossplay, poor netcode drove away most of the competitive and hardcore playerbase within a couple of months.
Ed Boom is GOAT, but joking about which quality of life festures to inplement next like online practice mode/crossplay in a poll on twitter i cheeky asf. Fate of MK1 is kinda deserved
fair points my dude
Not really a fair comparison since Tekken takes forever to come out. They made MK 1 in a few years Tekken 8 took like 5.
That’s exactly why tekken gets shelf life. Tekken 7 had an incredibly long competitive lifespan.
Very good point to add my dude
Mk1 just needs to take the handcuffs off the kameoz ..and stop being lazy with the cosmetics....that said these are two different games and can exist in the same space
The graphics in mk is so nice. But the tekken content was up to par the story and the gameplay can't be touched
Throws are teachable. It becomes unbreakable when it's a punish. But yeah, when you're against a long time Tekken player, ur screwed.
@@nrostova5606 no it’s literally throws that can’t be teched at all
@@Too2Cold Untechable grabs? What are u talking about😂
The only unbreakable throw is dragunov tackle while in heat and you can break the followup that is where 90% of tge damage of that move comes from, any other unbreakable throw is because it was used as a counter or because it was a low throw that only throws crouching apponents
Yoshimitsu and Bryan literally doesn't need character development.
each their own i guess my dude.
I like Both Games Because They Both was Brought Back in My Childhood Days💯
Right on my dude nothing wrong with that
@@DudiReviews 😉💯
I maybe one of the very few, but I still prefer MK... I just prefer MK's SPECIAL moves over Tekkens' MOVES... And the fact that you can creatively MURDER your opponent that neither SF, Tekken and soul caliber offers... Though they get old once you see them over and over again... I am just waiting for the new season and new skins to unlock for my main Tanya... Just playing Tekken to kill time before that...
glad you're enjoying MK1 mate
I haven’t played tekken but from what I’ve seen it’s more beginner friendly than mortal combat. mortal kombat kombos are harder to hit consistently just because the timing of every combo is so rigid and the speed required for the inputs it’s so fast. I think I’m going to try tekken for a more casual experience. I still want the competitiveness but I don’t want to have to sit in lab practicing one combo for says
Let me know what you think of Tekken my dude 🍻
Tekken is 100% harder what are you smoking
@@Jaffack for beginner play it is 100% easier. What are you smoking? I just tried the demo, threw on special controls and could beat a very hard difficulty cpu by mashing
A your tripping tekken is one of the hardest fighting games ever mk is way easier I need some of the weed your smoking 😂
@@Jaffackfacts 😂
i was a ps1 kid so i loved tekken 3 and later tekken 5 so i'm heavily biased but for me tekken 8 is leagues ahead of the other fighting games. so many features to learn the game and have fun even offline in 8, the graphics are amazing, gameplay slaps, the characters are all cool af and i can't believe i'm saying his but i'm even invested with the story, going as far as to hope for a dlc story in the upcoming years to see what will happen with reina. tekken 8 honestly might be the best fighting game ever made, while mk1 isn't even as good as previous entries.
Tekken 8 vs MK1: and the winner is.... SF6!!!
Short and simple answer: It boils down to preference. If you like MK it is what it is. Same thing if you like Tekken. Or if you like both.
all great points, as someone who's only just joined the FGC, AND! Picked up both games... I personally lean more towards the Tekken side. I learned a combo and fatality input for Johnny Cage on MK1, and that was all I ever did, with the added combo stops and cameo interactions for extra damage or annoyance, where as Tekken I picked up Jack-8 (yeah I know, whatever, shut up), I then had to find a low starter, pokes, punisher combos, high starter, ground connects, standard punish, whif punishes, low combos, high combos and learn how to see and read lows and grabs from all 32 characters AND THEIR COMBOS! also sidestep heavies and unblockables, the combat in my opinion is Tekkens win from the get go
HOWEVER!! Like I said I've only just picked up fighting games, and with around 30-50 hours in each and nothing else to go off of I can't really give a valid opinion, BUT I really enjoyed this video man!! thankyou for putting your opinion out there!! all of them matter!! 😃
subbed btw, great content!! 👌
Right on my dude! Nothing wrong with Jack-8 dude is a powerhouse
And cheers mate! Appreciate it kind words and sub 🍻
Tekken 8 > SF6 > MK1
real
wise man
This is my ranking too
There are pros and cons of both Tekken 8 and mk1.
Even if you don't know what's going on, you can enjoy all the sick combos and cinematics throughout the fight
MK1 while not terrible, feels like watching a faster MK11 with some characters sliding in and out occasionally and is nowhere near as exciting as T8 or SF6
Both look like garbage, when I watch a fighting tournament I wanna see fighting not cutscenes.
Going into each category:
Story (SPOILER WARNING FOR BOTH GAMES and TEKKEN 7): So I definitely would say TEKKEN 8's story is an improvement over TEKKEN 7's.
(With the caveat that I do understand that it would make sense for anyone to go the other way if they didn't like the changes)
Shelf Life: MK1 I feel has been a posterchild example of how NOT to handle a game post launch and this is a TEKKEN 8 point to me easily.
Tekken 8 is worth a good $60 (not the full 70$)
Mortal Kombat 1 has an in-game shop for you to buy currencies to get skins.
If they’re just gunna waste a reboot that terribly, they might as well focus on other things like Shaolin Monks or a better Conquest mode for the casual gamers, which MK1 is clearly made for
Is this a real question? 😂. TEKKEN 8 OBVIOUSLY 😂
No it's not even a real question if we're being honest
Tekken has a new theme with every single game. For Tekken 7 it's Solitude and in 8 it's My Last Stand.
My brother is the biggest MK fanboy. He thinks the Kameo system is a great addition… meanwhile we’re over here getting blessed by Tekken 8 & Street Fighter 6. Much better games imo.
Everything you said about Mk 1 about combat. Tekken does it better.
That's fair my dude
Hearing an Aussie make an NFL reference is absolutely life affirming as an American. Also, great fuckin video overall.
Cheers my dude! Really appreciate it 🍻
Glad you liked the reference mate!
*!!-SPOILER-!!* Tekken 8 is a superior game to MK1
at least you provided a spoiler warning mate ha ha
MK1 is better
Mortal Kombat 1 is good but Tekken 8 is the literally the best fighting game to come out this year.
People saying MK1 has slow reaction times to play ??? Is this game worth It I'm a MK fan growing up, getting back Into fighting games on PC and got a new PC so know It can handle It :)
