    I had an internship with a car magazine in 1992 and both photographers used a Pentax 67. The pics were absolutely gorgeous, shot on Fuji Velvia slide film

      Ah, the good old Velvia. Surreal but eye-catching colours. With the death of Kodachrome and the demise of Velvia, we have lost much of the exciting colours that we had access to. Digital is not a good replacement sadly.

    I used to shoot the RZs back in the day for doing cover trys and then use Pentaz 645 for the interior stories in magazines, everyone has covered the slow sync speed of the Pentax 67. I did prefer using the prism on the RZ for shooting people/fashion. The 180mm being my fav lens! Practice with the 67 and 35mm manual focus until you can get it by only turning it one way, (instead of back and forth narrowing it down), one day it wont even be a second thought. The same for metering, look at the light and try to guess your exposure by looking at the light, then check it. Soon you will see the exposure and not need the meter. Glad you have embraced the past! Cheers!

    Thanks for sharing your camera collection with us.
    I started my collection with medium format. I shot TLRs, SLRs, folders, rangefinders, and optical finders. The Mamiya C220 TLR was my personal favorite.
    I owned and used Nikon, Leica, Fuji, Minolta, Argus, Canon, Pentax, and Contax 35mm film cameras. The Nikon F2 with non-metered prism was my personal favorite.
    I also owned and used Graflex and Calumet 4x5 inch large format film cameras.

      Thank you for watching!
      I’ve heard some great things about the Mamiya C220. Before I started shooting film myself that’s one camera that interested me! I also love the look of the Nikon F2 (and other Nikon film cameras), another that I haven’t tried but would love to one day.

    I have a Pentax 67, the MLU variety. Two tips for you. Do not attempt to remove the prism without removing the lens first. There is a very fine chain that engages the aperture coupling hook just in front of the focusing screen, and particulary with a TTL prism, if the lens is still attached, removal of the prism will break the chain. I am talking from experience Sophia. The second tip is that you are resticted to a flash sync speed of 1/30th of a second, so the ambient light can play a part if you use a fast film like Portra 400. Enjoy the Pentax and the new flat. Are you still in the' creative ' area of the city?

    Congrats on the new place! We missed you on here :) GREAT collection! For the studio with 67 question, I find it super intuitive and natural. only thing to look out for is its super slow shutter synch of 1/30, but I mostly prefer shooting continuous light anyway.

      Thank you so much! Hope you’re doing well? And lovely stuff, thanks for the heads up! Do you find there to be much shake when shooting at 1/30 (from the shutter or otherwise)?

    I have a very similar story with the Mamiya RB67 - I've contemplated getting one again simply out of nostalgia. Buying it at the start of 2019 was a game changer. The rest is history!

    Nice Medium format camera collection minus the fuji. I am not a fan of rangefinders. I like the view finder above the lens. I have a rolleichord. I used it twice but still have film in it on my second time using it. I will have it developed once the roll is finished. I have 220 film I want to use but my rolleichord does not take it unfortunately. The cameras you have are a fortune. I hope to get one of the types you have when funds allow. I love my canon EOS series. My favorite is a Canon EOS A2. I am on my 4th one.

    That's a great practical collection you have here! I've been borrowing a Pentax 67II; they're awesome cameras. I have used an RB67 once and wasn't overly happy with it, but I didn't give it the time to get to know the camera well enough. Also, you've inspired me to revisit the idea of a video of my collection, which is a daunting task.

    Canon EOS 500 is a sleeper hit. I use two bodies commercially with EF L glass.
    Hasn’t failed on me over 9 years of shooting for campaigns. Love that I can buy back up bodies for the price of a footlong and cookies.

      Ehhhh... it's a shit consumer camera. Especially since no one wants the "auto" film cameras anymore. You can get pro cameras for not much money. You can get a Contax G1 for 150 dollars. There's better auto SLR cameras out there for not much money.

    • @SophiaCarey
      @SophiaCarey  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, of course there are much better cameras available, but it's cheap and cheerful. You can easily pick one up for less than 20/30 quid and that's much more budget friendly for someone who's new to photography/film than 150 is. No denying that it's not the best camera ever made, but it is a solid, affordable option, especially for beginners

    • @urwholefamilydied
      @urwholefamilydied หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SophiaCarey You have a lot of nice medium format cameras. And film and processing isn't cheap. So, no... owning a 15 dollar camera as your main go to for 35mm doesn't make sense. Just get a Nikon FM2 or Olympus OM1 for like 120 bucks. Instead of shooting on a 15 quid plastic Canon. You're not making any sense with your logic. Not trying to talk you out of or into anything. That's the one camera that stood out as "huh, what's the point?"

    Hey Sophie, your videos are super cool and inspiring!!.
    I have a boring techy question if that’s cool …. I recently purchased a mamiya 645. 1000s was just checking in case you had the same when you first started with mamiyas … I have no ISO setting on mine does this mean I’m just metering for everything? It freaked me out a bit … how does the camera know what film speed I’m shooting ?!
    Can you help ..
    keep on shooting on !
    Very cool.
    Thanks
    Tommy.

    • @SophiaCarey
      @SophiaCarey  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Tommy! Thanks so much! Unfortunately I’ve never used a Mamiya 645 so I might not be able to help you on this one! Does it have a built in light meter? You could optionally just meter yourself and put in the correct aperture/shutter speed accordingly?

    • @tommymonolo
      @tommymonolo 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey Sophie, I have the waste level view finder which has no meter so like you say I’ll have to meter then adjust aperture shutter speed manually ! It just freaked me out a bit as I have a rollei 35mm which is very cool and it’s older than then the mamiya but has ISI setting on it.
      Thanks so much for getting back !
      Sunny 16 it is then haha or meter.
      Cool cool.
      Keep on shooting on.

    Just interested to know the issue with the rollfilm back on the RB, did it gap incorrectly after you wound it on?

    • @SophiaCarey
      @SophiaCarey  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t fully understand the issue but, from what I do understand, I think it was something to do with the firing pins. If I took a photo, the advance/shutter cocking lever would get stuck afterwards and so I couldn’t advance the film without manually overriding it using the flag on the back of the camera, but because the film wasn’t actually being exposed, I was manually advancing the film without actually having taken a photo and ending up with a blank roll, but it was the only way to make the advance lever work.

    • @siypic
      @siypic หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SophiaCarey AAh right!....... I have a couple of RBs and RZ's (still have them) which I used back in the day for my work..... I mainly used the RZs as it was one motion cocking and film advance and when under the stress of people firing questions at you and one the flash heads not firing etc you could forget to wind the back on with the RB sp i used it for copying etc.....
      The Pentax 67 is a great camera and a friend of mine used his ones for many year.... you can get a lense which has a built in shutter for the pentax to overcome the focal plane shutters sync speed if using flash........... I'm really glad to see younger photographers using and enjoying these cameras...
