I agree 100% about the cast crank. I’ve had guys turn their noses up at the cast crank I had in my 347. The motor was NA and wasn’t making over 500hp. I didn’t plan to boost it, so why pay for a forged crank? Just because you don’t build a motor to handle 1000hp doesn’t mean it’s garbage. Love this build. Didn’t even know it was a thing.
Yep, its why i made that point in the video. THese rods will bend or pistons will melt before that cast crank falls apart. Maybe? Maybe not but im guessing its close
Stock F4TE cranks have been taken to 800hp. I’ll be honest it’s probably a wet noodle at that level bending and twisting. 3” mains and beefy 2.312 journals give it some strength.
Man I'm loving this content nothings more satisfying than watching a fresh motor go together, can't wait for the announcement of what it's going in and to hear it fire up!
Did the same build basically for my 71 f100 shortbed 4x4. The 387 stroker is a Perfect engine for a 1/2 ton 4x4 . Plenty of torque and hp . But not so radical that drive ability suffers. Im running afr 185s , a comp 268 h cam . A Airgap intake , Sniper 2 efi and summit racing ceramic coated headers and msd ignition and distributor. Its a ton of fun to drive because the throttle response is so crisp and it just keeps pulling hard from just off idle to 5500. Im leaving some hp on the table with my cam choice and the Sniper 2 efi . But i wanted good reliable driveability . Fun truck
Man love this content, nothing like like budget build of a small block pushrod Ford motor, this thing will be awesome. Kick the the crap out of those bowties for sure.
I learned that when you’re doing main caps, it’s good to oil up the threads in the block a little bit to help with install even tho you would use ARP lubricant
Getting ready to do this to the Windsor in my Bronco, .030 forged speed pro pistons with coated skirts, the same crank you used is $400 bidenomic bucks now, using 185cc AFR heads, F cam since it's free.98 and induction is a Edelbrock pro flo 4 sequential efi. Should be a torquey 393 around 450-460 hp
My grandpa gave me a 351w last year after he got it machined on and gave me everything with it, i’m gonna buy a fox body soon and put it in there. I’m also gonna put a different cam in it before i do though
Heck yea! I believe I will start saving for a similar build very soon. I cant wait to hear this one run. And if I know you Id bet we will get to see how it runs down the strip as well!
Nice build. I did a sbf 427. Other than notching the block. I had to clearance the oil pump and the oil pan to clear. I had to gently rotate the crank after I put the cam in so I could put the chain on. Before i got it in time the crank would hit the cam. Had to go slow and easy. This build answered one of questions about using 302 pistons in a 351. I have heard of Cleveland pistons used in a 400.
You're content is the best you and what you do is very relatable to what my friends and I do and have done for years. This is so cool. I hope you end up doing a N/A dyno video with this engine. I find this build very intriguing & wondering what kind of numbers it will do. I imagine it'll have super good torque with that loooonnnggg stroke!. 2👍 brotha
Love this build thanks for sharing what the parts are and the tips for assembly. What oil do you plan to use? What bearing clearance do you target? What is the application for this engine? Do you build engine’s different for different applications? (Clearance/ring gap) excellent work I’ve been watching your track and build videos for some time.

Thought about doing it myself for a long while but I just picked up a 1997 cobra 4.6 4v with a vortec that needs attention. Long runner intake and conservative intake valve duration would make a great stump puller.
