Well, I learned something today. When I was in high school, I pulled the heads off a ‘72 351W for a valve job. When I reassembled the top end, it had a small external coolant leak between the block and head on the passenger side. The heads were milled and pressure tested, so I just assumed I had a bad gasket. I replaced the passenger side head gasket again, and it still had the exact same leak. I never figured out what the problem was and sold the engine to a friend. And yes, I told him about the leak. Now, 30+ years later, thanks to this video, I think I know what the problem was. Funny thing is, he never did anything with that engine. Still sitting in his garage. Thanks for the solid content.👌🏻
I am not a serious Ford guy, but I don't hate them either. As long as it is American-made, and V-8, I am good. I have owned them all. But this is a wicked budget build and I have freaked out building engines that the valves did not locate inside the valve releifs. Thanks for the education and great build.
Love your new combo l have a 384 cubic inch wins awesome engine mine has the 375 stroke with 6 2 rod love to put it back together everything is so high now good luck l know yours is going to be a killer Ford powered forever baby keep on pulling the knot out of them boties and the horns off them mopars l love it
Had 2 do the exact same thing with my 331 stroker build, mine has trick flo twisted wedge 170 heads too but the pistons are ICON, this was my 1st build, most frustrating thing was waiting weeks and weeks on 2 different machine shops, 1st shop cleaned and bored and honed my 302 - 30 over but they didn't have a guy to balance my new scat crank so i had to pass the crank off to a different shop to do the balancing
As always thanks for all your help, I'm thinking i have a 351W out of a 96 F250 and I have new .30 over pistons, so hopefully this winter I'll be building me a engine
on the cometic gaskets theirs a way to fix that you have to use a paint roller and a really good black silicone like the right stuff you roll the roller in silicone and roll the roller over the gasket on both sides then install for final assy ,dont let head gasket dry installl right away

@neomustangs are you still going to deck the block and do .30 pistons? Or do you feel comfortable with the gaskets and clearance you have? Ever 351W I find has the same condition, I’m guessing from the stock gaskets?
Never caught the follow up, you'd mentioned one time there were some issues getting the pistons and rods together. Idk what issues that was. That made me think a set of dss pistons for under 4 bucks would be ideal for this type of build. I want to do one myself now.
Quick questions, can a stock 4R100 handle a decently built 351W? and how can i start to build a decent 351W i just bought a 93’ Lightning and i would like to know how i can make decent hp and and how to build the engine in order.
Hope your lightning has a roller block. Some 93’s did and some didn’t. The 94 and 95 Lightnings had roller blocks. I had 3 lightnings and know a lot about them.
@@Neomustangs another reason I asked I'm doing one myself. And with the flat top 302 piston zero deck. With 58cc heads and the 42 on the head gasket the number said static compression 14.8. Did the numbers with the corrected compression with the cam that I have compression was 12.1. To get it to 10, I had to order a set of Hypertech Pistons from Summit with 22 cc

I just found you on here and I can't find the rest of the videos on this build is there any way you could give me the parts list for the build I'd like to do one for my 65 Comet I would really appreciate it if you would do this for me so I can build one
You can stroke a stock block Windsor 4" bore to 427 cu. i. Around that point you go with an aftermarket block, like Dart...4.125 bore and you can stroke larger than 427.
You telling me that if you take a bone stock 351w and put bone stock 302 pistons in it, it changes the cubes to 387? I guess you saying "or get some .030 over pistons has me confused. Because that would make the stock motor 357ci not 387ci
Your missing the crankshaft. I put th stock 302 forged TRW pistons from foxbody 87-92 302 motor, matched them with the stock Windsor rods and added 3.85 aftermarket stroker crank. The 30 over version of this is a 393 .
@@Neomustangswhich way was the notch installed. Have heard reversing the pistons picked up horses. Will only work with flat tops. But good for 10-12 horses.

On a different video I meant ask if this is a good combo to use on a F100 Short bed
What about Cooper gaskets?
Nice! I haven't done this type of stuff in years. Great technical info! This video ALONE is worth the price of membership!
Glad it was helpful!
My 65 has a stroked 351w baddest meanest sounding thing I've ever owned 🐎🚗🔧👊💪🇺🇸
What have you use to upgrade the 351 w? Looking to do the same

Thx!

Awesome content man you always get the thumbs up
Thanks for the visit
Hell yea brother. Reuse what you can. Why buy new when you don't have to. Those studs are great.
I can’t wait to hear this engine! It’s gonna sound good with some compression!

Always been a Cleveland guy but that is impressive.
what piston rings you go with?
Gotta love the American 🇺🇸 flag waving in the intro! FJB

I need a parts list, Im currently doing the same except I want to build an NA motor.
Whole playlist on the engine thus far in channel
So that means a Cometic head gasket will leak coolant in the middle ?
Awesome content as always
Hi Dan, enjoyed it very much. Are you going carb or injection? Thanks, Brent
The carb intake with injectors yes

Just curious with those Pistons the compression going to be around 14 to 1
It wont be 14-1 and we are running E85

Where the block was corroded and may have leak - would brazing the block then decking flat have worked?
Nah you just deck it flat
Whats the name of the machine shop you use?
Damn DANNO that #1 piston took an L huh 😮
With that much clearance why not deck the block again and run MLS head gaskets? You can afford to take 10 thousand off
Thank you from Bangkok,,,,,
How long are 351W cylinder sleeves? They must be 6.5" to 7" to enable you to stroke it that much.

I'd have to fly cut and do solid rollers😊
Not in the budget.
Listen to ol, an wise😂🎉
Copper coat gasket that area.
If you know a guy why not mill the pistons down afew thou??
Didn’t need to use that favor and didn’t want to do that
