    Hi Vera and Christian,
    Please just stay making your beautiful and wonderfully informative videos about Land Rovers. The Disco 3&4 section of our Australian LR owners site; AULRO has an endless amount of fascinating topics that you could explore. Your original, unique style complements the quirky Land Rover owners world so perfectly! I am unable to see that transitioning to a Grenadier, nor to a new Defender.
    I love your work! Please keep it going. You’re just the best. With very best wishes, Jeffrey.

      I bought a ‘Defender’ Land Rover 110 in 1984, the first year of build but one of the first with wind-up windows and the 2.5 diesel. Ran it for 22 years before it simply wore out. Same goes for the Land Cruiser 100 diese. Bought one of the first off the boat in September 1998 and it is still on my yard, admittedly not moved for the last three years due to necessary repairs being unviable. Nevertheless it served me well for over 200,000 miles with excellent reliability. Also my father bought a brand new model in 1993, a Isuzu Trooper 3.1 Citation. Again this was run for 18 years with very few problems, then scrapped. No regrets buying any of them and several more.

      @@hedydd2 Yes, I use to do that too - buy brand new and run them to the ground whilst maintaining them correctly. Not now though. I save a large percentage of the new purchase price buying used and run them to the ground. Cars from the last 30 years or so last a long time if looked after.

    Fantastic! Just what I was thinking, and my pre-order is about to arrive at my US dealer so this is sooo timely. Short answer (after 2d guessing a lot since my “off-roading” will be of the light variety for which a number of other cars could do) I’m IN! Given the solid quality of known top component suppliers and the Magna Styr design team, I have great confidence. Long warranty and a 61 billion $ company name on it, they’re not going to collapse. Now to pay for it…..

    Land Rover had a real opportunity to make a 4wd for all people, but then they blew it by going upmarket. If they followed the recipe of the Landcruiser 70 series or even the Suzuki Jimny they would have a best seller. All they had to do is right all the wrongs of the old Defender. Like not being squashed up against the driver's door or having the window down to steer it.

    • @hedydd2
      @hedydd2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They have done all of that but having decided to abandon the traditional farmer’s and utility’s workhorse type vehicle in favour of ‘private transport’ SUV type vehicles, what do you expect? They do offer the ‘Hardtop’ van version but it is grossly overpriced compared to the passenger version and as a result will only sell in very low volumes. Business buyers are not generally easily taken for mugs.

    • @vs6300

      True, though they would have trouble meeting emission requirements. A good trade off would have been PSA's DW12 blown up to bigger power. It would have run rings round the Land Rover reliability-wisely and lighter and cheaper costwisely and the rest electricals be done by Suzuki.

    I ordered one on the first day possible in UK. I now have it, and it's all I wished for - superb off road and makes me smile every time I get into it - just like all my many Defenders for the last 30 years. Just a shame that LR do not make a "Defender" anymore. Ineos kept to their quoted price at the time of my deposit, so I am happy with that. I love LR, but they do not make a car I want anymore, this is my modern alternative and I am more than happy.

    You make some interesting points in this video, especially about the cost to own one of these. Personally I couldn't go for a new unproven vehicle from job 1, and especially from an organisation with no apparent service or support infrastructure. Having said this I can see your argument and how this could be interesting for the channel.
    As someone who recently bought a Toyota after disappointing experiences with German cars that have become over-complicated and unreliable IMO. In the context of my last BMW masterpiece of Chinesium and plastic, Land Rover are starting to appear as not that bad. I hope the Grenadier designers have kept it as simple as possible and not buried it in junk quality parts.
    So, you have my vote to get one and educate/entertain us. Given your honesty and no nonsense options they should provide you with a Grenadier FOC.
    Whatever you decide to do, good luck and thank you both.

    Great discussion! The high enviro concerns are crucifying the cost of this vehicle in Ireland. Vat & VRT tax (highest bracket) is putting out over €115k+ for the Belstaff model. Road tax will be couple of grand no doubt per year. If you have the money to buy it and wrap it in plastic and leave it on the driveway, it might make sense as an investment🤷🏼‍♂️ to buy it as any everyday driver, you need very deep pockets. I have ordered one. I think the level of research and development that has gone into the creation of the Grenadier specifically relevant to what the use intention was at the core. I loaded up the options to pretty much everything I know I will use even periodically. I have quite a bit of confidence in the final product first run for a few reasons. First of all, the facility they ended up with to manufacture this vehicle was set up initially buy the manufacturing engineers at Mercedes. These folks spared no expense in that facility and the crew that went along with the deal has tremendous experience building high quality vehicles. Next, the inspiration for the vehicle was a highly specific to its intended use, not how to make a profitable car or truck. The question was “can we make a use specific vehicle in a financially sustainable way?”. That’s the way every successful product ever made had long term survival. Lastly, they selected all the core components to be of the best quality from companies with proven track records of long term strength. I’m all good with my decision. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

    The problem with ‘self service’ on a new car is the diagnostics lag many years behind especially with a new manufacturer, unless Ineos use a generic diagnostic device you will struggle to do so much and most early problems are software, firmware or electrical in nature, the stuff you can do at home is mechanical but this should be many years away from being a problem.

      I bought a Land Rover 110 in 1994, barely within 12 months of initial production. Well two actually, both with the new 2.5 belt-timing Diesel engines. The station wagon had the sliding windows while the 110 pickup [high capacity pickup] was one of the first with the wind-up windows. Kept the Hi-Cap working extremely hard for 22 years up to 2006 where it wore out and was scrapped. Have many other examples of early production vehicles that have worked very well indeed for me.

    Super enjoyable video Vera and Christian. I have a preorder with a projected build of October 22.
    I live in Tasmania and I reckon there are about 4-5 Grenadiers headed this way of the first build models.
    I have enjoyed your videos so much, always fun and I just admire your positive attitudes to life.
    I have an LR4 which is a great car with all the problems we all know but some incredible features that I don’t know will ever be replicated again in a newer car. The Grenadier could have learnt from the true flat floor, the brilliant tailgate opening, the 2 rear seats that fold into nothing, the classic rugged dash and dials. Other than that it looks incredible
    I for one, would be absolutely thrilled to see you guys get a Grenadier. You would become such a valuable research and support tool for us all and a great community hub for Grenadier owners.
    Keep up the great work you and I must say sometimes the videos of fixing or changing the little things are often the very best

    My build date is 12/22 here in Australia. I excluded the bullbar winch and roof rack which I can do cheaper when ready but did include 80% of the available options. I also ordered a 1/18 scale model of the grenadier which should be here by the end of the week.

    I would go for Grenadier as buying a Land Rover new would mean 90% of parts are tied to the UK , meaning massive export tax on any parts. Especially if your looking at all of the work staying in house. The BMW engine would be a good German investment. Love the channel 😃

    A fascinating video 😀 It's good to see you discussing the future of the channel. I thing that your head is saying buy the Defender, but your heart is going for the INEOS. Personally the emissions and mpg figures for the Ineos would put me off (not that any of them are good). Will Ineos still be around in 5 to 10 years, probably not. Making a profit on low volume cars like this is practically impossible, IMHO. If only Land Rover weren't so expensive. I agree with your view that car makers charge what people can afford and Land Rover buyers have to be rich. Maybe you should buy a used Toyota What Cruiser. That would be amusing! Good Luck!

    Your "washing machine" experience on the Grenadier test drive is a good reminder of the "advantages" of beam axles. But if your really want that sort of experience why not save 40,000 euros or so and just buy an old-style Defender? (I'd be happy to sell you mine!)

  • @raymondlogister6828

    My tip for you is: Stay away from the new Defender and also the Ineos granadier. Just look at a review of a german/australian youtube channel about the Granadier. th-cam.com/video/cTDVWaLJfM8/w-d-xo.html
    Stay with the discovery's , and if you want a project car get an old defender. That's much more interesting for us viewers, if you convert it into an overland vehicle.
    Good luck with your choice

      Most Grenadiers will be sold to commercial vehicle operators such as farmers, engineering companies and utility companies such as water work repairers and electricity distribution companies not as playthings, which is what that video concentrates upon. He does however make some good points, one being the fuel capacity and possible extra tank fitting. Secondly the foot-room in the right hand drive models. THAT will be a deciding factor for me when it comes to deciding whether to go through with a purchase. If I’m not comfortable driving it, I will not buy it, having suffered the terribly cramped driving position of the Defender for 22 years. I’m not about to go through with that again and would rather buy yet another Ford Ranger pickup.

  • @frglee
    @frglee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would say, just choose the new vehicle you want based on the characteristics and ignore delivery issues, because both have these problems right now. If delivery of what you chose takes longer, well you are still getting just what you really wanted, and that would be worth waiting for.

    You have obviously carried out a great deal of research into the Grenadier and are happy to highlight your concerns, despite appearing to have already made up your minds that this is the car for you. I thought it was interesting that you were honest enough to show that in some categories, the Land Rover Defender excelled, most would not mention this. I suppose the big question has to be why you want to purchase this vehicle? If it is for TH-cam content will it give you what you want? For example, as a new vehicle it is unlikely to need major repair/maintenance so this may limit your output. You will also be in a sea of TH-cam content that will be offering advice/upgrades to the Grenadier once it has launched and some of these will be from professional outfits that offer products for sale. As things stand for me, I am and will remain a subscriber to this regardless what you decide as I find not just the content but the interaction between you both an absolute pleasure to watch. I'm sure that whatever direction you go in, assuming the Grenadier ever gets in to mass production, you will continue to have a loyal audience here every week. 😃

    Great viewpoints, thank you. I had a pre order and was put off by the final price, mainly due to tax's (not Ineos' fault), but the add ons and taxation just made the vehicle too risky for the financial investment. I will wait and resist the fear of missing out for a safer investment.

    I ordered a new Defender 110 D300 HSE. Its 6 month lead time and paid deposite for a 23 model year. Now they changed to a 23.5 model year, REMOVED air suspension as a standard and UP the base price!! Also hidden feature like soft close rear door, USB charging ports on the back of front seats, even the Overhead Sunglass Storage are REMOVED. However for a similar speced Defender vs Grenadier, its over 10,000 GBP difference. I only want the BMW engine from Grenadier for my forthcoming Defender in the next 2 month..

    Interesting and helpful hearing your opinion on the Grenadier … Looking forward to showing this to my wife… (Perhaps having the two of you there, will help to convince her of the benefits of the Grenadier!)
    Over here in North America, (Canada), we’re at least 1 year behind… in some respects, that may be helpful, as we can get a front row seat to Ineos’ release of the vehicle and the initial impressions in Europe… On the other hand, it will be interesting to see whether inflation drives up the North American price above what was initially offered.

    With regard to the manufacture voiding your warranty if you do your own maintenance; what does German law say about that? In United States and manufacturer absolutely cannot do that. The only time they can void a warranty is if you did something that caused the problem. And even then it doesn't void the warranty on the whole vehicle

    • @Vera_and_Christian
      @Vera_and_Christian  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would assume that it is the same here. I think they can only void the warranty if it is directly related. Like wrong oil and then engine failure, etc. Christian

    • @hedydd2
      @hedydd2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they are anything like Land Rover, they can turn stupid and try to evade their warranty obligations. Believe me I have had it several times over the decades with Land and Range Rovers at less than six months old in one case where they would not repair a dangerous imbalance in the brakes. Thank goodness for a good dealer at the time who made a claim against another vehicles until they finally sorted it. It came from the factory with the brake issue, a slipping clutch and weak rear coil springs from the factory. They did the clutch, refused the other two. Dealer sorted the brakes which they acknowledged to be dangerously faulty [although LR Service Manager claimed it was fine]. I had to pay for uprated rear brakes myself. After these were sorted I had very few issues for the next 100,000 miles when I sold it for a Land Cruiser. It left a very bitter taste in the mouth about Land Rover and not for the first time. I did eventually buy a Discovery and a Range Rover after that but my loyalty for the brand was totally gone. Believe me JLR’s loyalty only works one way and if your V6 engine breaks a crank out of warranty expect no more than a token gesture that costs them absolutely nothing but leaves you with a massive bill which they will pretend would be far higher if not for their ‘generosity’.

    I would go for the new Land Rover Defender. It will probably keep its value much longer and is drop dead gorgeous. You also have to pay way above retail to get one in a reasonable time. The risk you are taking is that the INEOS has no inherent design or build issues. The first version of almost anything is a risk.
