      i'm going through the begging stages of gaskets needing replacing. 2011 135i n55 60k miles. if you are going to have a mechanic do it. oil filter housing gaskets - $500. valve cover gasket $500. dct pan gasket and housing - $900. some places quoted about $100 more for each. oil filter gaskets is the game stopper if you don't fix it in time and the belt goes.

    • @christopherteran4911
      @christopherteran4911 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Robert Purvis I paid $1,900 to replace my gaskets, oil change, filter, spark plugs and ignition coil and a radiator hose.

    • @robertpurvis6106
      @robertpurvis6106 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christopherteran4911 that's very reasonable if it was all the gaskets i was talking about. my quote was $1,800ish for just the gaskets all over. spark plugs about $300 with labor, including the gaping for the tune i have. he would do the ignition coils for free if i handed it to him at the same time. you take them off anyway to do the spark plugs. did you do the new eldor ignition coils or delphi/bosch ones? those are about $200 without the bmw logo on them. $500 if you are the type that needs the logo.

    Hey what a coincidence!
    It's been a year since I acquired my 135i, and after an inspection the valve cover and oil pan gaskets were leaking so I just got it fixed today!
    The oil filter housing gaskets went late last year so that should be the end of the major oil leaking for me. For now at least.
    I'm sad that they all went just shy of 60k miles but I guess we have a pretty harsh climate for cars here in Japan.
    Ever since I got the car I've been trying my best to keep the engine healthy and it seems to be paying off for now!
    Seeing today's video it was surprising how even you can miss out on some cues on what might be going wrong in the car.
    I really love the honesty in your content and how you're not just showing off what went well but also things you're struggling with.
    It's been helping me with confronting the issues in my car especially knowing that I'm not the only one.
    Anyways, I'm super excited about the updates to your fleet! I'm kind of shied away from commenting on videos other than the 335i ones because I don't know too much about them in general but I'm watching and learning!

    • @VehicleVirals
      @VehicleVirals  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you took care of all of that. 60K miles sounds about right for those gaskets to start failing, sadly that's just how it is with our engines. Thank you for being around and supporting the channel 👊🏼

    I agree with maintenance first. The only add on I had was cone air intake for my SHO. I change oil, brake pads and rotors as long as I have the correct tools. Spark plugs can be difficult but worth while taking care of as well. While your cars are under warranty I suggest making sure you get everything checked out so if things are not okay you only pay a small surcharge to makes things right that are covered. Thanks for sharing Christian and looking forward to the next video! Best wishes and Peace out brother!

    Great breakdown of why to maintain your N54. This video was great because I saw your engine out of the car, allowing me to see where on the engine things go and are physically located. I am doing a TON of maintenance before I add all the cool parts for power (and if I showed you the list, I am sure I missed something important, but it's a start). Your gaskets top and bottom were just trashed... I am surprised you weren't leaking more oil. Very fortunate you did all of this work at one time. Thanks for posting this. BTW, oilpan bolt sets are sold with the oil pan (pls see FCPEuro). Glad I sub to your channel! --Steve

    I been through all this before with my E93 but I would recommend getting your engine rebuilt as well because they were a few issues found inside the engine as well. In the end I went with a fully built race modded type engine fully forged.. putting about 2.5 bar boost it’s making 870bhp...I have also upgraded to gearbox and replaced the rear diff from a m3 custom fitted..You have the same craze i did and still do with my car thats why I offer advise because you can get the engine rebored to have bigger pistons and thats when the cars exhaust tone really wake up sounds like a F1 engine..

    What’s going on with the rod bearings? The engine is already out and the guys have a plenty of room, oil pan is off so why they didn’t even inspect/measure one of them? Maybe on 5th or 6th cylinder where usually marks are more visible? In your shoes I’d think about it and spend a few extra $ on top of the labour and parts just to make sure that everything will stay healthy on the engine bottom.
    Especially if you are going to add some extra power and torque, it will affect rod bearings even more. Talk to your mechanic about it, stay safe, best luck with the project 👍

    That nipple broke off on me on the upper radiator hose while I was checking something after just driving the car. I got second degree burns on my wrist from the boiling coolant.

    Bro, didn't you just get the valve cover gasket replaced by that other shop? They also installed the charge pipe that was leaking too, right? Man a good shop is hard to find, too many Bush League mechs out there.
