And yes - you can totally make this with a full pie by blending it up whole pie and all with the whipped cream or coolwhip. Or you can make a crustless pumpkin pie (the custard only). I do intend on doing this with only pumpkin puree (or even powder) plus spices in the future. Harvest Right is offering up to $500 off their machines through December 15, 2023! You are too much fun!! I dehydrated mini marshmallows yesterday and my husband won’t stay out of them….so I asked him to get another bag so he can have it for snacking…..using the ones I already did for hot chocolate Christmas gifting…..He came home with 2 bags….He LOVES the apple slices…..now he’s in love with mini marshmallows….Darcy, we’ve created a monster and I haven’t even started cranberries yet! Do you think he’d go for a freeze dryer next? Bahahahahahaha!! ❤❤❤
HAHAHA! Well, I can say, if you're not using the freeze dryer for long-term storage, for a business, or for a large garden preservation method, I might not recommend it. It's a lot of money for snacks :D But I'm glad you're both having fun with dehdyrating!
@@ThePurposefulPantry Honey, I’m 74….how long do I need to store….I just love freeze dried fruit and so does Hubs! I think I’ll keep buying it instead of investing but what you’re doing looks so fun!! What do marshmallows do in the freeze dryer? I don’t see that you save on space, but the flavors are ALL THERE! I’m stocking up on freeze dried eggs, milk, cheese….the necessities….need more milk and eggs but fruit is #1 on our list….I’m amazed at the banana slices though…..and the strawberries….I need to get more! LOL. I’m old but I’m having SO much fun!!!
I likely won't waste a load on the FB for marshmallows. I just dehydrate those once a year and always have more than enough. So that being said, I don't know. I haven't tested them, yet...maybe I will when I do ice cream sandwiches and use an extra tray since we won't need to store that many ice cream treats.
I only use Mylar bags for meals I send to my kids or my husband takes as he travels for work. Everything else is stored in jars. I have tried using a grinder/blender for “powdering” my FD broth and have returned to doing just what you did using my hands. I will say I dehydrate my broth more than FD as it takes up less space and isn’t affected by the moisture in the air as readily. I found with FD broth it was affected by the moisture in the air too easily as it was being used. I am not the only cook in the house and the others are not as diligent at reseal ing the jars. Also I live in the Great Lakes Basin area so humidity is a factor.
I haven't tried it myself (yet) but I've seen other people in videos putting freeze-dried stuff in freezer bags and then using a rolling pin to break it up into a powder. You might want to try that.
The pumpkin Oie Puffs we’re introduced to the FD’ing community in Kim Kane’s group (HarvestRight Freeze Drying Adventures) and Betty Stills Group ( Betty’s Harvest Right Group) by Rebecca Horvath in August of 2021. Trivia. These 2 groups were the very first freeze drying groups on Facebook. 😃
Thanks - I did a quick search - I did this one a little different, but that's where the inspiration came from when I saw it originally! I'll go back and credit it!
@@ThePurposefulPantry , Oh, I’m not expecting you to do that. I just always give the backstory on home FD’ing history and it’s creations and creators. 😃💕
That's great that you're having so much fun with the freeze dryer! I appreciate you sharing your FD adventures with us. Looking forward to future updates. Happy preserving! 😊💖
I used your idea of dehydrating the chunks of cranberry jelly sauce 3 days to make gummies and I realize they make outstanding cough drops. Those pumpkin cream drops would be great for coffee.
I look forward to more freeze-drying content from you. Your approach is more like my own - I don't have a garden or homestead. I have given up on dehydrating any fruit or stock/broth. I'm hoping freeze-drying works out better, but will wait to see you try it first. 😄
Why did you give up on dehydrating fruit? There are going to be a lot of fruit varieties that are better dehydrated than freeze dried -- mango being one. I dislike the freeze dried one a lot. But everyone's personal taste is going to be difference. Once I settle into it and quit playing, I'll be doing lots of protein and dairy, etc. That's my main goal with it!
@@ThePurposefulPantry I probably made mistakes that I haven't figured out yet. I tried canned pineapple chunks for days and days, gave up and threw them away. The vegetable stock I tried (after days and days) just came out like fruit leather, so I tried to break it up and put it in a jar in the freezer. It's still good, just not as easily used as the ground up granules I envisioned using 😄 I live in a dry desert climate in the Southwestern U.S., so did not expect everything to take so long as if I still lived in the humid central and south Texas areas I've lived in before. So I blame that on my lack of patience😆
@@ThePurposefulPantry Also, I'm not a fan of fruit, unless it's red or green chile . . . I had planned on turning the dehydrated pineapple chunks into granules to use in some sort of creative fashion. Therefore, my decision to trash it was not a painful one.
@@ThePurposefulPantry I've revisited your videos on dehydrating pasta and rice, I have plans to make the most out of camping meals. I'm just not sure about the purchase of a freeze-dryer, yet. So will be reviewing your videos. Thank you so much for all of your hard work to bring us these videos! 💖
I finally able to buy your book. I'm so excited to get it. I'm using my mixed veggies that dehydrated to make a beef soup. Thank you and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
With the fruit leather sheets that many of those manufacturers have to do it with (lipped plastic) or purchase a round lipped silicone tray that fits it. I collected a few of them here in my Amazon store: amzn.to/4afxfaK
If your broth has even a speck of fat in it, it’ll go rancid without an OA. Vacuum sealing (even with a commercial vacuum sealer) will not remove 💯 of the oxygen. That tiny bit of oxygen can and will turn even the smallest amnt of fat rancid. You need an OA to scavenge the remaining oxygen. Sorry - I'm not going to be doing a second channel - this will integrate into my content which is still mostly dehydrating, and occasional freeze drying.

Don’t know why you haven’t been showing up on my feed, so I went looking for you & checked to make sure the notifications were on.
It's TH-cam for ya!
Thanks for the tip about using parchment paper for the broth!
I mash up my broth in the jar using the end of my French roller.

Yep - that would have been easy to do it all at once if I wasn't doing it in pieces for the video - thanks for the tip!
I just packaged my freeze dried turkey stock yesterday.

What a good idea for the pumpkin puffs!
Thanks! I adapted it from a Facebook freeze drying group that I saw, but can't pin down the original person -- they used the whole pie!
Rolling pin works for me
No leftovers 😂

Yep the fat has been triple skimmed out of this - it's the part that I lost in footage ;) ANd I did mention the O2 absorbers ;)
Would you mind sharing what model freezer you use to pre freeze your trays?
It's a Frigidaire. I don't have the model number handy.
How do you make persimmon fruit leather
Puree permissions with apples, spread out onto fruit leather sheets and dry.

If I’m gonna use the broth within like a year can u just vac seal or do I need the absorbers?
Vacuum sealing = O2 absorbers. Same process. Do whichever you prefer.
