Whatever you do make sure you get a good discount as NCL ain't what it use to be. The Encore is a smooth sailing ship but that's where the positives end. We returned from an Encore AK cruise and we're so glad to be off that ship. It was overcrowded, elevators kept you waiting as they skipped past your floor, the bed mattress was hard, food was low quality, the salmon was inedible, the deserts looked nice but had no flavor, the fitness room was packed, smokers everywhere, unlimited wifi randomly worked, debarkation was chaotic to say the least, and NCL's version of reservations was much like the Seinfeld episode - the most important thing about reservations is holding the reservation.
You dont say what's included and what isnt. You do mention to make reservations but does that mean there is extra charges for those activities? Is the buffet included?
Hello can you give me advice we’re going on encore to Alaska in a club balcony suite mid ship and we have the choice between deck 12 or 14 any recommendations would be helpful. Thank you so much!
I absolutely hated this ship. The cruise was nice because of the destination, but I'm not booking with NCL after that experience. Here are some things that bothered me. 1. The staff was out and about taking up space meant for passengers. I remember a Kinky Boots actor making a huge mess in the buffet and not doing anything to try to fix it. 2. The free food was sub-par at best. The best thing I ate was the Caesar salad in the MDR. 3. On the first day of the cruise while exploring, the crew were rude about things not being open. We walked around the VR room before being told to get out. 4. The balcony was very small. We paid for a Club Balcony Suite, but we couldn't sit in the chairs comfortably because the balcony was SO short. 5. The Vibe Beach Club was a scam. We paid for it day 1 of the cruise. We'd gone up there the whole week, but the bar was never open and nothing was taken care of. On the last day (even with the wristband to prove we paid for it), they tried to tell us to leave. That was $250 per person for something that was never available for use. 6. We paid for breakfast to be delivered to our room daily, but we could only get basic food that you could grab at a cheap motel (anything heated besides coffee/tea added the typical room service fee). 7. Our priority boarding and check-in wasn't honored even though it was on our cruise cards. Tldr; NCL disappointed me severely, and I'll never give them more of my money.
@cruisesit firstly, I would like to apologize if i came across as combative/agressive in my original comment. Sppecialty dining! While costly, the food WAS good (just not at Onda for me, and it could just be a me problem). My partner was obsessed with the chicken in the MDR (I'm picky, so again a me problem, but I thought sharing all my feelings was good at the time). My room steward, waiters, and bartenders were absolutely lovely! I gave my room steward at $50 tip because he was always so nice and all-around great. The wifi was fast (even in alaska), and using a VPN like I always do, I could watch HD TH-cam. I think if the price was right, I would try a different ship OR the Encore. I have my excellent memories of the trip, so I definitely think it was worth it (Alaska is my favorite place ever, and it was the first time I'd been since my sister passed).
I have never had bed bug bites in my entire 52 years of life until I went on a cruise on Norwegian Encore 5/28/2023 I found all these nasty looking bug bites on my body on the third day of cruise and when I went to the Guest Service Desk, they sent a Pest Control Director to my room. He found a male bug after conducting some search. I was disgusted to hear from one of the staff that they now have to find a female bug so they don't lay hundreds of eggs! I am still dealing with these marks long after the cruise and probably will for many years. Half of my cruise was wasted because I was dealing with mental anguish, physical suffering and pain. And this is the part where I felt like I was insulted. They offered me a $100 credit on onboard expenses. After I elevated the issue, they offered me $400 credit towards future cruise which I will never take. Not with them again. This is hardly any compensation. Beware, these bed bug bites are a serious matter. They are like cancer, once found in a room, there is no telling how wide or deep they have spread or migrated to other rooms, you can only hope. I never thought I would be this unlucky one. Getting bitten is one thing but the lack of any real compensation from Norwegian is pretty shameful. I am sharing my experience to raise awareness and hopefully help others avoid this traumatic experience.
Sadly, it was likely a previous guest who brought those bed bug eggs in on their shoes or suitcases (from a pre boarding hotel). The laundry’s water and sterilization process would have killed any eggs or bugs on the linens prior to the bed being made, they were likely in the carpet or on the bottom side of the mattress. There’s a spray that you can get and use while traveling. I personally have been on 11 cruises with no problems. Hopefully you’ll get past this and enjoy NCL again.
No senior should take the Encore! It’s too big, walking the huge ship tires you out. Top deck games are for the young. Lounge acts sadly lacking, beds uncomfortable, walkers will not fit through the room doors and must be folded and carried through the door. Once into the hallway, cleaning carts block passage of walkers. Incidentally , the Encore has the ugliest chandelier ever created. Most off-ship excursions require better mobility than the average senior has. On the positive side, the food was good, but in 7 days, we never managed to get a satisfactory breakfast as they took it away too early. the room Steward was kind and helpful and the dinner service people service excellent. Pleasant Staff, however, could not make up for the fact that the Encore is just a poor choice of ship for seniors.
Don't think that NCL is going to be a good cruise. The food is bad, the service is worse! The drink package was very expensive and not worth the money. We were on the fence on which cruise line to use. and the fact is Royal Caribbean is far superior in all but one thing. NCL's bathrooms are bigger than even some of the suites in RC. That being said the rest of the check boxes go to RC hands down. Even NCL's Cagney's premier steak house falls flat on its face in both serve and food quality and understanding how to cook a fillet Mignon . The fillet was bland had no taste and it was served overcooked. When we requested to get a replacement, they could not do it. They were so slammed with tables, we had to leave without eating. our main course. They only make up the rooms once a day now, and with that they could take the whole day, We waited till 4 :30 pm most days. one of the pillows we got smelled like perfume!. Come on! get it together NCL. !!. Goeas from boarding! till the end with disappointments about food and service. The shows are dated and low budget. Stay AWAY!!!
It’s late rainy night and instead of falling to sleep I can’t stop watching this!

Is it best to book on the website or use a travel consultant?
If I book in the Haven, do I have free access to the spa area with the salt room and thermal pools?
You must get a Haven spa suite. I have not booked in a while, but I think it is H9.

I wonder if My Heart Wil Go On ever sung by the live band? :)

@@dorianlaumann2049what is the spray that you can get called. I am going on a cruise soon and would like to have it just in case.
I think target carries it. Google bed bug spray. Comes in ksrger bottle, so for carry-on only Downsize into travel sprayer
