Hi Richard - Taurus practices "lean" manufacturing. The frame for the 605, 856, and the 942 is the same, sans the barrel and the cylinder. It is fascinating how they do this. I'm not going to claim Taurus is the best, but they put out decent guns these days at a reduced price.
I picked up a Taurus 905 in 9mm a few years ago and I have no regrets. The recoil is close to a 38 snubby. The moon clips actually makes reloading easier. Great pocket carry pistol.
Taurus seems to lack in quality control. With that being said if you get one of their guns as long as you run a few boxes of ammo threw them to make sure that you didnt get a lemon you're probably good to go. They have def stepped their game up over the past few years and make a decent product for an affordable price. I would much rather take a Taurus g2c or one of their revolvers over a highpoint Jennings or raven.
I paused this video and did a search trying to find that exact revolver, no luck. 22wmr is my favorite rimfire. 40 years ago on this month, I was given a Marlin bolt action 22wmr for my birthday. It was a gift from my grandmother. It was stolen once but recovered. I no longer use that rifle, I "retired it" to the gun safe, but about once a year I bring it out and shoot it for old time sake. I think that little 942 would be a great replacement for my 6 shot Roughrider in 22wmr as my yard/fence building/working on the deer lease gun. This is the first video of yours I have seen and I liked it very much, just subbed you. Good video and content, thank you! And as I always say in any TH-cam comment I make, Greetings from GODS country, Arkansas.
Glad to hear you got the rifle back, many times that doesn't happen. They are hard to find, especially during these times. I've only ever seen two of them on the shelf, the first one was a 2" barrel and after several months, this 3" barrel version was available so I jumped on it. Thank you very much for the comment and thanks for the sub!
I have the stainless snub nose 942M, been shooting it for about 2yrs no problems. Have found modern 22WMR ammo is very reliable, have fire about 1500 rounds, bang every time.
Nice review, subbing. If I was to carry 22 mag for self defense a wheel gun would be my choice. Misfires just take a fraction of a second to recover from, unlike autos that would require racking or fixing a feed issue.
I bought the Taurus 942 in .22LR a few months ago and am really impressed with fit and finish. I've only fired 42 rounds- saving my stash- but seems OK so far.

I only have one Taurus pistol that I have issues with, the Spectrum. This 942M has what I would consider a typical trigger pull, really no different than any other revolver I own. Thanks for watching!
The rim fire rounds need a very heavy hammer so of course the trigger pull is always heavier with these. Better to get a .32 long or .32 magnum for someone who needs a lighter trigger pull as well as less recoil.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I would recommend the Ruger LCR in .327 Magnum for your mom. Has a great trigger and you can fire regular .32 out of it for less recoil. Yes, the ammo situation is terrible right now.
Thanks for showing this one. My wife carries but is one that has weak hands and recoil sensitive. She can't rack the slide of any and if she can the recoil gets her. She doesn't like the recoil of her 38 snubbie. So this 22 mag revolver will fit nicely. She carries a MP 22 compact with 4 mags. But she like wheel guns. So thanks for showing.👍👍👍
I’ve been watching a lot of these videos for the 3" 942 22WMR so that’s how I found your channel. This was a nice quick review for the gun. The one thing I like most about this little revolver is the sights are windage adjustable and they allow for changing the front to a fiberoptic or Tritium big dot. I’m really looking forward to getting one of these. I also want the 856 Defender. I’m looking forward to both of these. I’ve spent the last three or four years buying pocket 9s that I don’t even like once I started shooting them. My hands are just too big to hold one well enough to not have problems. I’m 6’5" and I wear a XXL glove. So I’m going to focus on getting some of the new Taurus revolvers and hopefully since I shoot the 85 just fine I should have no troubles with these. Taurus really has made some nice new additions to their revolver line up. I was very happy with the Taurus 85 ultralight I bought for $300 bucks when they first came out. It’s a fun gun to just pop off a few rounds in the backyard. But I’ve never felt comfortable with a five round 38 special as my daily carry. That said, I really do have my eye on 3 or 4 of the new Taurus models. The 3" 856 will be the second one I get providing this shoots as well as my 85. Then I’m interested in the 3" 692 7 shot .38/.357/9mm, I also would like the 6.5" 608 8 shot .357, and then maybe the 380 5 shot mini revolver just because it’s cute. But I’ll be done with the Taurus line up after that. I’ll be living in my retirement then, and I unfortunately didn’t plan for buying a new every 4 to 6 months. I’ve had several Taurus revolvers but I have always traded them off to try other guns. They once were the affordable choice for a S&W knockoff, but they have now moved to the middle bracket, but the reputation seems to allow for that increase. Well good luck with the reviews, maybe I’ll see more of your reviews as I’m shopping around for ideas. Be safe and stay ready.
Now you went and put a bunch of ideas in my head! I have always liked wheel guns and I agree that Taurus has stepped up their game. Hopefully I'll be able to take a look at some of the revolvers you mentioned in the future. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
I’ve got this gun with a 4In barrel (don’t know the model number). It’s hefty but feels solid in the hand and super accurate. I carry it OWB sometimes but it would be heavy for a back up on the ankle or something. Speed Beez makes speed loaders for it. CCI makes reliable ammo that can be used for self defense. 8 rounds on target in a couple seconds with nearly 0 recoil? I don’t know anyone who would volunteer to get hit by that!
That's a cool revolver. 22 magnum is nothing to laugh at for sure. I am looking for a small caliber revolver for carry so I'll take a closer look at this one. Thanks for the video.
I recently bought a HHR and I haven’t shot the magnum cylinder but I have a box of Hornady polymer tipped and 4 boxes of Winchester hollow points and next Saturday I believe that I will shoot it thanks for sharing the content.
great review 👍 love wheel guns. .22 mag seems plenty good enough, easy to aim, get an extra few rounds for revolver. in cali limit is 10 so 8 is only 2 down from max, makes these a more appealing option for some
A good "speedloader" to use at the range for the Taurus 942 would be a fully loaded Kel-Tec PMR30 with its thirty round magazine. The frame of this 942 resembles Taurus' 905 9mm revolver ("lean" manufacturing per Lionquest Fitness below) which is an A-W-E-S-O-M-E wheelgun to accompany one's warm weather EDC 9mm pistol. Also, do conceal carry here a NAA Sidewinder in .22 Magnum with the folding boot grip and it's no slouch in the Winter. Good video here!
I've heard a few people suggest using a semi-auto magazine for a revolver speedloader, I have never tried it though. I hope to do a video on the 2" barrel version of this little revolver, I'm interested in seeing if there's any bullet tumbling. I also want to see how much velocity difference there is in the two barrel lengths. Lean manufacturing has my vote, I just wish the shelves weren't so lean! Thanks for watching!
I watch a lot of gun reviewers, this is the first one I've seen from you. I have never even considers a Taurus, but you may have changed my mind here! Have subbed and will check out more, thank you.
Awesome! Tell all your friends to subscribe too! Lol. I really like the little 942 and the Taurus 605 too. (same frame, different caliber) They're affordable, reliable and fun to shoot. Thanks for the sub and thanks for watching too!
There are a few guns that used to be everywhere that have been sold out for months now. I'm even seeing Black Powder firearms being sold out everywhere too. Gun shops and shelves that have bare spots that were once full of anything you could want. Hopefully it will get better soon! Thanks for watching!
I have been thinking about a smaller revolver for EDC. Taurus is a decent choice, 3 inch barrel is a good choice, I have seen some videos about the higher speeds of 22 magnum ammo. All things considered , well worth consideration. Good video ,Thanks.
The first time I saw it on the shelf, I waited and it was gone the next day. The next time I saw it, I set my ID on the counter and said "I'm taking that one!" Strike when you see it because I know a lot of people are looking for one! I actually bought mine several months ago. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video. You shared a lot of good information. I am making a change from semi autos to revolvers due to arthirits in my hands (and gout in my hands) It has become nearly impossible for me to load a magazine of a semi auto. But I have no trouble loading a revolver. I bought myself a Heritage Rough Rider with a 4.75" barrel for Christmas. It will be used just for plinking in the back yard and will replace my S&W 22lr compact. Next I'm looking at Taurus 856 to replcae my Ruger lc9s. But I am also interested in the 942 which could be used as a self defense round or varmit shooting out of the garden, but usually I use my Marlin model 60. I think if I buy these three revolvers I'll be done. Thanks again for this video.
I've got a couple Heritage revolvers and they're great for plinking. I have used the 856 and it's a pretty good revolver too. The 942M is one of my favorites! Easy to shoot, reliable and small enough to carry all the time. I think you've got it all figured out. Thanks for watching!
I have the two-inch 942 and bounce pop cans around at 50 yards all day long. I am confident that in self-defense mode I could put a cylinder full into a perp's head and it would be just as lethal as a44 mag.
Hi Richard, suggestion: try some Winchester Silvertip 22 winmag , it is optimized for handguns. Hard to find usually but I just received some from MidwayUSA. Five Star Firearms [5 Star] has speedloaders for the 942M (really cool company and products), I have them - with docks - for a handful of different calibers. I have a couple of Taurus m327 - 2" and 3" - for over a decade, in .327 fedmag, built on the 605 frame , they are 100% sweet , smooth and accurate. See you in the saloon soon.
I've tried the Silvertip .22lr in a couple semi-autos with varying success, I'm sure they're great in a revolver! I did eventually pick up a couple speed loaders for the 942, I just haven't done a video on them. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching too!
There are a lot of guns that are out of stock, I've been checking my computer! It may take some time but hopefully they'll get back to normal inventory some day. Thanks for watching!
It started out as just a covered area to shoot from in case of unpleasant weather then developed into the "Shootin' Saloon". I blame it, and my fondness of Cowboy guns on Santee @Arizona Ghostriders! Thank you for watching!
Many thanks for your great review on your Taurus 942M!. Actually I have a couple, (Older models, made in Brazil), one is .22WMR, Ti alloy frame, 2.125" bbl, other is .22lr steel frame, 4" bbl. Frame size is similar to S&W's model 63 ('J' frame). I also have an S&W mod 17 - 2 / .22lr, pinned 6" bbl (Old classic), and a mod 48 'no dash', 6" pinned bbl (Old classic, too). NONE of the above is for sale. If anyone wishes to 'dry fire' / practice with a rimfire gun, nowadays anyone can find polymer snap caps, searching in the Web, to minimize damage. However, as you wisely explain, make sure to check your gun's Owner's Manual first.
I have an older Taurus in 9mm, the PT-92. It’s identical to the Beretta model and is a dream to shoot. I own S&Ws, CZ’s, and Rugers, as well as Tauruses. Taurus is underrated in my opinion. They perform excellent for the money. If they had quality issues, it hasn’t been in the last twenty years from what I’ve seen.
This one might not be the right choice for someone that has trouble pulling a trigger. I'm not sure what the pull weight is but it is very heavy in DA and although the hammer is very smooth, it's also pretty heavy.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview Trigger pull on any DA .22 rimfire is inherently heavy, as is cocking the hammer, and maybe the top main complaint with them. I've had a Taurus 94 in 5" for over twenty years, small hammer spur, and will eat the meat off your thumb with long repeated use. One exception for me is a S&W 63-5.
Have smith and wesson pro series 9 mm , and have Taurus g2c and G3 stainless, and Raging Hunter 5 1/2 inch barrel 357 magnum 7 shot, and some other guns and Taurus has stepped up , trust them all anymore , price are great, this is a nice looking 22 magnum would carry it, love all guns if had Ammo, gun shop tried to sell my son 380 ammo for his Ruger lcp for 90 dollars 50 rounds he ask him if he was on crack. There's a few videos available showing .22wmr out of the Ruger LCR. The cartridge does just fine, even out of a snub. This gun looks really good. I wish Ruger made the .22wmr LCRx in 8 shot. I said I'd never own a Taurus again, but this has me thinking twice.
There's such a big price difference in the Ruger and Taurus and honestly, the Taurus feels nice, looks nice and functions great! If you get lucky enough to find one of these in a store, check it out, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview Very true on price. I've had a few of the Taurus revolvers. I can attest to how fantastic they are with warranty work. They take really good care of you. That was kind of my issue. I was too familiar with their warranty dept. That's almost 20 years ago now. Thanks for the input. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out. BTW, I have that LCR in my pocket holster right now. .22wmr gets it done. 👌

I don't have any influence over Taurus, but I've mentioned that they need to bump up production on this little revolver. There are a lot of people looking for one! Keep your eyes peeled, hopefully they'll return to the store shelves soon. Thanks for watching!
Great video! I have the 605 in mat black, love it. I also enjoy shooting my Heritage Rough Rider which has two cylinders, .22 LR and .22 wmr, fun to shoot but with a six in barrel, not for EDC, now the 942 for EDC is right on. Question, what’s it retail for? Thanks fir the cool video.
Both the 605 and the 942 both retail about $350-360. Both are great guns and fun to shoot, but not as inexpensive as the Heritage. Thanks for watching!
Great review. I have been looking for this gun for almost a year now, I'm on 4 waiting lists and no luck yet, and because I've been looking for so long I'm not sure that it's imported in Oregon
That's be a good choice. One of these days I'm going to check out the Taurus Tracker 17, it's not a pocket gun but it's my favorite caliber! Thanks for watching!
Most people shot by a pistol end up living through it, no matter the caliber... you just need something you’re comfortable with that’ll make the perp “squeak and leak” and stop what they’re doing.
Unfortunately there's a shortage of all kinds of guns, all I can say is keep checking with your local dealers. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Thanks for watching!
Nice review of the gun and the 22 magnum round. 22mag is a really good self defense round; and as a bonus they are fun to shoot. Never heard of or read an article where someone came back the next day to finish a robbery, home invasion, physical assault because they only took a few rounds of 22 magnum to the chest.
Self defense shootings require the shooter to be aware of background. You can expect to get sued by anyone injured from missed shots. A 22 lr or even wmr can reduce the liklihood of missed shots and the possibility of striking an unintended target.
Right now I'm in the market for a .22 handgun so your video is right on time. I've been a Taurus fan long before they were as popular as they are now. That looks like a nice little revolver. Stay warm brother.

Keep your eyes peeled, I see them pop up from time to time. Thanks for watching!
Good luck I don't see it popup.
It'd be a good choice Hillbilly! Thanks for watching!
For some reason, this comment keeps showing up as "I haven't responded" to it. I'll try again!
"She carries ... with 4 mags." My kind of lady!!
As far as "self defense", I've never heard anyone say, "I wish I'd been shot with a .22 Mag." Nice vid! Thanks.
Lol! I can't recall a comment like that either. Thanks for watching!
I did pick up a couple speed loaders for mine from Taurus. This has got to be one of my favorite little revolvers. Thanks for watching!
941 look where the cylinder opens in the front
Great channel Richard, Appreciate you
Thank you very much!
That's a cool revolver. 22 magnum is nothing to laugh at for sure. I am looking for a small caliber revolver for carry so I'll take a closer look at this one. Thanks for the video.
Good luck in your search, the Taurus 942 has been a really Hard-to-find Revolver! Thanks for watching!
Nice little snubbie, there. It's a good little shooter rapid fire!
Comfortable and smooth too! Thanks Santee!
Still waiting for this in a 2 inch ultra lite model to be available again.
I've seen the 605 in an ultra lite, I don't recall the .22mag version.
I enjoyed watching your video review, keep it up man 👍🏻
Thanks, will do!
I recently bought a HHR and I haven’t shot the magnum cylinder but I have a box of Hornady polymer tipped and 4 boxes of Winchester hollow points and next Saturday I believe that I will shoot it thanks for sharing the content.

Very Nice job-review of this firearm, Thanks !
Thank you for watching!
great review 👍 love wheel guns. .22 mag seems plenty good enough, easy to aim, get an extra few rounds for revolver. in cali limit is 10 so 8 is only 2 down from max, makes these a more appealing option for some
Thanks! Revolvers are usually pretty reliable too. Thanks for watching!
Nice video. All version of 942 WMR are out stock in every online shop for a long time now, also I could not find it locally.
Taurus is a decent choice, 3 inch barrel is a good choice, I have seen some videos about the
higher speeds of 22 magnum ammo. All things considered , well worth consideration.
Good video ,Thanks.
I don't think this one would be a ad choice! Thanks for watching!
That's a nice little revolver. Thanks for sharing.

I have the same gun in 22 lr. Couldn't get a mag so I took what I could get. Definitely love the little fella, thanks for the video.

Nice review! 22wmr is a fun round.

I have my eye on that gun at my local gun shop and I can't wait to go get it thanks for the review 👍🇺🇸

Good video nice little pistol definitely better than nothing for self defense thanks man
A lot of fun to shoot too! Thank you for watching!

This would be the perfect ankle gun, if it was a 2'" barrel. So close. And yet, so far. Thanks for the share!!
They are available with a 2" barrel! They are a great little revolver. Thank you for watching!
Great information, excellent video examples. Overall fantastic review. Thanks. Keep up the Great work 👍
Much appreciated! Thanks for watching!
My favorite caliber and a tad on the pricey side. Good review, thanks
Yes, they are but they sure are fun. Thanks for watching!
I have the two-inch 942 and bounce pop cans around at 50 yards all day long. I am confident that in self-defense mode I could put a cylinder full into a perp's head and it would be just as lethal as a44 mag.
It's accurate and a great shooter. Shot placement is everything! Thanks for watching!
I have been looking for one of these guns for ever, all my dealers say that everything is out of stock without even checking their computer.
There are a lot of guns that are out of stock, I've been checking my computer! It may take some time but hopefully they'll get back to normal inventory some day. Thanks for watching!
Good review Richard. Shooting out the back door of your saloon; how cool is that! Thanks.
Sounds like a pretty nice collection you got there. I like wheel guns! Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching too!
I totally agree that a senior citizen and people with medical issues or weak hands will do very well with this type of revolver for Personal Defense.

Thanks for the awesome video. Looks like a good little gun. I have never owned a ♉️ Taurus. One day that may change.
It's one of my favorites. I haven't had any issues with a Taurus revolver. The only real issues I've had with a Taurus, was the Spectrum .380 pistol.
I just purchased the Taurus 605 .357 magnum and love it!!!!

Hello Richard - have you made a new holster for the 3 inch. If so would you be willing to make another?
I have not. I'm not currently making holsters to sell, maybe in the near future though.
Most people shot by a pistol end up living through it, no matter the caliber... you just need something you’re comfortable with that’ll make the perp “squeak and leak” and stop what they’re doing.
The intent is to "Stop" the threat, "squeak and leak" should do the trick. Thanks for watching!
I’ve been looking to buy can’t find it. Any advice? Nice job on the review. Thanks.
I couldn't agree more, especially about the robber coming back! Lol! Thanks for watching!
Self defense shootings require the shooter to be aware of background. You can expect to get sued by anyone injured from missed shots. A 22 lr or even wmr can reduce the liklihood of missed shots and the possibility of striking an unintended target.
I agree! Thanks for watching!
