Don't even need to watch this. .22 mag for distance is good from a five-inch minimum barrel. Anything less it doesn't have time to burn the powder. Anything less than a five-inch barrel is .22lr for close or point-blank fire is good. You can do better with a three inch nine-millimeter. I don't care about your tests. You buy the ammo that you can find at that time. It is entertaining to watch what you do. Thanks for sharing.

compression due to mass of block is less near edges, like lighter water pressure but in a gel... so a shot near the edge of the block has lower density gel on one side and higher on the other, causing it to curve very slightly towards the lower density side, which is the edge... and then it's gone.
Thanks Jeff. The scammers are out in full force. I’ve blocked, deleted and reported but like you say they just create new accounts and there they are again. I don’t stay logged in and usually only get to log in once a day in the evening so if they spam me in the morning it stays up there all day before I can remove it. Some people work harder trying to steal off folks than they would if they’d just get a job.

Love that revolver. Good comparison. I shot the Punch into a gallon jug of solid frozen water at 10ft out of a RR 4.75in barrel & it flattened all the petals even with the base. But came up 1/2inch short exiting the back. Either it or Gold Dot are great but the Punch is about $25.99 before shipping. For carry might alternate with both if accurate in Your firearm. Thanks. 👍

Thanks for doing this video. I’ve been testing federal punch 22 LR a lot lately on my channel. Mostly from rifles though. I thought these 22 mag loads did great from that revolver. Punch did a little better than gold dot. Keep up the great content.

Man this is some great info and presentation. I worry about over penetration with things like 9mm and recently have been looking into .22LR for a carry gun. These .22Magnum rounds look awesome thanks for sharing.

@@tombrown8829 based on my limited knowledge on the topic I would say slightly more hard on the firearm just like + p or +p plus with centerfire handgun calibers. Probably much less than higher powered centerfire caliber rounds. Additionally based on the fact that most shooters will buy a box of this, go through a couple of magazines or cylinders to confirm functionality and accuracy in their firearm, and then by the grace of God not ever have to use it in a defensive scenario, but be confident in its capability should evil come their way. I plan to purchase some for my 22 mag backup and proceed with the steps described above.

Bought a box WMR punch just for two NAA revolvers. I'll probably never carry either, but at least if I do, I know what it's capable of. ...and it's pretty impressive really.

I've come to the point in my life that I look at the bookmarks for Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney, and HBOMax, then ponder my options. After a few seconds of reflection, I will invariably end up deciding upon: "Nah. Screw that crap. I'ma go watch some more Buffalo." Should probably just get rid of all that other garbage.

I used to be very dogmatic about .22 mag not being a good choice for a defense round, but this has made me think a little on my beliefs. The Federal Punch is impressive for a .22 mag.
22 wmr self defense rounds are hard to find here in Lubbock Texas. There’s plenty of 22 CCI . I have a Taurus 942 M. 8 shot magnum and I love it. I love the Punch in 22 , 380 and 9mm. God Bless and thanks for all you do
Great job showing the punch. It really surprised me cause we all know how good the Gold dot has worked. But the punch really held its own. I got a 22 mag revolver for Margaret on law a way. So this has worked out really in good timing. I need to find some now😁. Take care

great video .. these velocities are approx what these rounds would be at 100 yards, out of a rifle, give or take a few yards. Not unreasonable to assume as they both have fast burning powder. so that said the results of this test would indicate expansion at that distance, besting some of the other popular 40gr jhp such as CCI, Remington, and Winchester.
Took me a week to get back to watch this, but I am watching with curiosity as I have a 22WMR LCR and I carry it often. Ironically, I haven't found either of those rounds locally... I usually carry a CCI Maxi Mag hollowpoint, or a winchester Super X semi jacketed soft point (1800 and change from rifle barrel). That speer looks like an awesome round at a glance. with the extra velocity and weight of the punch, it may be better option... Both seem pretty good to me.
Thanks for the video. I had been neglecting my 22lr and 22mag revolvers for a few years, but I have been getting reacquainted with them lately. I have had students in recent years that will never shoot anything bigger, so I might as well set them up with the best choice for self defense.

Awesome as always! Any chance you could do a rifle test and the hundred yard ballistic gel like you did with the gold Dot? I'd like to see how these would work on coyotes at that range I bought the gold dots based off your other review out of a rifle and gelatin at 100.
Enjoyed the video. Your camera work wasn't as bad as you think. You kept on target and didn't let the camera veer away; good job there. I also have an unfired Smith 352pd seven shot 22mag as a carry gun along with two other larger caliber pistols. I wanted to keep the 22mag unfired, mint. So glad I found your comprehensive and very informative video, it removed any doubt I had about my very lightweight revolver. I find myself choosing the lightweight 22mag as a primary carry piece over my Glock 48 or Smith 640. Anyway, good work, great clarification and excellent video.
Thanks for the comparison. My "carry it anywhere" gun is a NAA 22 WMR with the folding handle and I've been carrying Gold Dot. Just ordered a Taurus 942 22 WMR and now I'll be on the lookout for Punch.
Good video...! we currently load Hornady in a Taurus 942, have one box of Gold Dots, and haven't seen the Punch...i think any of the three do just fine, we don't lose sleep over an inch or two...i will note we often have our cci target ammo cases stick in the cylinder after firing, i believe they simply swell a fraction, and will not have our cylinders reamed out .001 just to ease the issue...as the cases cool they do eject much easier...fresh, cold ammo always loads easily...

Great video and I just locked up a S&W 351 PD and bought some Federal Punch 45 grain and I use it as my primary EDC now, my hands are not what they use to be and I should be fine with the 351 PD.
Not sure why, but the wavyness of the gel surface seems to make it easier to see the projectiles. I think it's because it breaks up the light, so you can get a nice, clear view inside without reflections.
Both gave good performance from a 2" barrel. Thanks Buffalo. 👍 The scammers seem to be everywhere lately. some channels I watch have even turned off their comments because of them.

I got slammed with emails from folks letting me know about it, I only get to actually log in to YT once a day due to my work schedule and line of work so if a scammer spams my videos in the mornings I can't even start removing their comments until that night.... it's aggravating to have to do that. I block, delete, report but they just create new accounts faster than I can ban them. Take care my friend!

Every test I’ve seen of the punch has shown it to be a very impressive and consistent performer. I’ve been trying to get my hands on a couple boxes but they’re really hard to find right now.
That .22lr Punch penetrates great! I done a video on it but I can’t remember if I compared it with Velocitors or not. I can’t remember what I’ve done and what I haven’t lol, I’ll have to go back and watch my own video.
Very nice test. That ballistic gel is clearer than the windows in my hotel room! Not sure how you do that but it is awesome. I am glad manufacturers are making ammo improvements in the 22 mag.

1960s they used to have 45 grain 1400 ft per second on up a 22 magnum usually for 1400 to 1800 ft a second it was high velocity 332 ft lb they've reduced

I wonder if the advertised velocities were with a 2" barrel in an automatic, so that 1" of that was really the chamber. That might explain why they outperform their specs. One thing detractors of 22 WMR will often say is that the light 40-50 gr. bullet of a 22 WMR probably won't be as good when it hits bone. Might not do the job. You probably have seen Paul Harrell's channel; have you seen his testing media that he makes up instead of ballistic gel? He's got clothes, then a rack of ribs, then a bunch of oranges, then more ribs, then a bunch of fleece. to catch it on the back. Using that type of media, he can speak with authority on how effective it would likely be on a human attacker, even when it hits bone. Really well-done video, as usual. G

Interesting differences, and decent performance considering those velocity/weight pairings are about on par with .22lr from a rifle.

I used to be very dogmatic about .22 mag not being a good choice for a defense round, but this has made me think a little on my beliefs. The Federal Punch is impressive for a .22 mag.
22 wmr self defense rounds are hard to find here in Lubbock Texas. There’s plenty of 22 CCI . I have a Taurus 942 M. 8 shot magnum and I love it. I love the Punch in 22 , 380 and 9mm. God Bless and thanks for all you do
We own a 942, also...currently loaded with Hornady, but we do have a box of gold dots on hand...it is a good little gun, carried often...

Great job showing the punch. It really surprised me cause we all know how good the Gold dot has worked. But the punch really held its own. I got a 22 mag revolver for Margaret on law a way. So this has worked out really in good timing. I need to find some now😁. Take care

great video .. these velocities are approx what these rounds would be at 100 yards, out of a rifle, give or take a few yards. Not unreasonable to assume as they both have fast burning powder. so that said the results of this test would indicate expansion at that distance, besting some of the other popular 40gr jhp such as CCI, Remington, and Winchester.
Took me a week to get back to watch this, but I am watching with curiosity as I have a 22WMR LCR and I carry it often. Ironically, I haven't found either of those rounds locally... I usually carry a CCI Maxi Mag hollowpoint, or a winchester Super X semi jacketed soft point (1800 and change from rifle barrel). That speer looks like an awesome round at a glance.
with the extra velocity and weight of the punch, it may be better option... Both seem pretty good to me.
Interesting difference between the Punch .22lr and the .22wmr. I would use this, but I''m not sure the Punch is the best of the .22lr.
Thanks for the video. I had been neglecting my 22lr and 22mag revolvers for a few years, but I have been getting reacquainted with them lately. I have had students in recent years that will never shoot anything bigger, so I might as well set them up with the best choice for self defense.
Great comment Sean. So many people sound off on how this is better than that but you're actually looking at the situation and adapting for the sake of helping others instead of discouraging them. I like that.

Awesome as always! Any chance you could do a rifle test and the hundred yard ballistic gel like you did with the gold Dot? I'd like to see how these would work on coyotes at that range I bought the gold dots based off your other review out of a rifle and gelatin at 100.
Enjoyed the video. Your camera work wasn't as bad as you think. You kept on target and didn't let the camera veer away; good job there.
I also have an unfired Smith 352pd seven shot 22mag as a carry gun along with two other larger caliber pistols. I wanted to keep the 22mag unfired, mint. So glad I found your comprehensive and very informative video, it removed any doubt I had about my very lightweight revolver. I find myself choosing the lightweight 22mag as a primary carry piece over my Glock 48 or Smith 640. Anyway, good work, great clarification and excellent video.

Thanks for the comparison. My "carry it anywhere" gun is a NAA 22 WMR with the folding handle and I've been carrying Gold Dot. Just ordered a Taurus 942 22 WMR and now I'll be on the lookout for Punch.

Good video...! we currently load Hornady in a Taurus 942, have one box of Gold Dots, and haven't seen the Punch...i think any of the three do just fine, we don't lose sleep over an inch or two...i will note we often have our cci target ammo cases stick in the cylinder after firing, i believe they simply swell a fraction, and will not have our cylinders reamed out .001 just to ease the issue...as the cases cool they do eject much easier...fresh, cold ammo always loads easily...

Great video and I just locked up a S&W 351 PD and bought some Federal Punch 45 grain and I use it as my primary EDC now, my hands are not what they use to be and I should be fine with the 351 PD.
The gold dot has always been excellent and the punch looks even better. I'll try to find some. Thanks!
Not sure why, but the wavyness of the gel surface seems to make it easier to see the projectiles. I think it's because it breaks up the light, so you can get a nice, clear view inside without reflections.

The scammers seem to be everywhere lately. some channels I watch have even turned off their comments because of them.
Thanks Gary! I can understand why. I got slammed with emails from folks letting me know about it, I only get to actually log in to YT once a day due to my work schedule and line of work so if a scammer spams my videos in the mornings I can't even start removing their comments until that night.... it's aggravating to have to do that. I block, delete, report but they just create new accounts faster than I can ban them. Take care my friend!

You should do the same with velocitor and punch 22lr. Although there is no hollow point the penetration is impressive.
That .22lr Punch penetrates great! I done a video on it but I can’t remember if I compared it with Velocitors or not. I can’t remember what I’ve done and what I haven’t lol, I’ll have to go back and watch my own video.
Very nice test. That ballistic gel is clearer than the windows in my hotel room! Not sure how you do that but it is awesome. I am glad manufacturers are making ammo improvements in the 22 mag.
I don’t know why but I am fascinated by the 22 magnum. Don’t have one but looking for suggestions in pistol and rifle.

1960s they used to have 45 grain 1400 ft per second on up a 22 magnum usually for 1400 to 1800 ft a second it was high velocity 332 ft lb they've reduced

Really timely for me. I'm waiting on delivery of a Ruger "Super Wrangler" combination revolver, ( .22 LR/.22 WMR ). I use "punch" in my .22LR backup pistol. Now I'll have to get some for the Ruger !

I wonder if the advertised velocities were with a 2" barrel in an automatic, so that 1" of that was really the chamber. That might explain why they outperform their specs.
One thing detractors of 22 WMR will often say is that the light 40-50 gr. bullet of a 22 WMR probably won't be as good when it hits bone. Might not do the job.
You probably have seen Paul Harrell's channel; have you seen his testing media that he makes up instead of ballistic gel? He's got clothes, then a rack of ribs, then a bunch of oranges, then more ribs, then a bunch of fleece. to catch it on the back. Using that type of media, he can speak with authority on how effective it would likely be on a human attacker, even when it hits bone.
