I rode my very first bike ever a 2019 CB500X from Phoenix up to Montana and back. They are very capable both on road and off-road. Someone with the right skill could literally take this bike anywhere. However I am happier on my Africa twin with all the highway riding I do.
Agreed! I wish the CB500X had a bit more poke, but its efficiency makes up for the lack of power. If Honda would ever bring the NT1100 here, then I think my CB500X would be replaced... and the Rebel 1100 as well. That AT 1100 engine is just about perfect, and the NT platform is almost identical to the CB500X in terms of size and road manners. Too bad we're not worthy here in the States. 😒 --QM
Love watching these commutes but Jeez I wish I could work out your road regulations! I’ve driven in the US in the past but watching a skilled “native” do it rattles my brain at times. Another class video incidentally. I agree with other comments, you earned it, you spend it. Your family aren’t suffering and your priorities are spot on.
Succesful city riding/commuting is a very different skillet compared to touring. Strategic lane usage and aggressively-predictive/defensive riding habits are crucial to survival on our streets. Our cagers are not observant toward anything smaller than their giant trucks and SUV's, and their aggressive nature toward bullying people is outright dangerous. The struggle is real! 😉👍 --QM
FJR1300, 654lbs..I know, because i have it..and yes it is heavy, but no problem with wind gusts or pushed around by trailer winds, small twist of throttle and I get away of anyone and anything, it is beautiful...being that said, I am looking for a cb500 x or f or a Svartpilen 401, because small bikes rule too!
Ouch... you're correct... I thought they weighed in the high 500's. I've always wanted to add an FJR to my stable. I owned an FJ1100 and a FJ1200 long ago and put over 80K miles on each of them. I've ridden the FJR several times, and it's a buttery smooth bullet train... steam catapult acceleration. Unfortunately, it's a bit too wide for my short legs, so I'd need to carve the seat and drop the suspension just a bit to reach the ground comfortably. 😉👍 --QM
I'm with you ,I prefer a 17" front,/ rear tire for highway riding. The 19" on the newer 500x is the reason why I probably not get a 500x & get the equivalent to a 500f . 17F 17R & under 32" seat height for my 31" inseam legs. Under 425 lbs for my 66 year age. My next bike would be a Honda 500 or a 300-350 Scooter
I feel like 500-700cc on a bike is like the sweet spot for you riders in America. Good balance between highway power, fuel consumption and weight for city/leisure riding.

I'll tell you the secret to having a Beautiful Lush green lawn over the Summer in your case when it's Extremely Hot. Walk over to your grass and, stick your finger straight down into it and if it reaches your knuckles it's the right length and should not be any shorter than that. Most people I've told this to when they leave their grass longer they screw things up by watering it too much because the more water, the faster it grows. The Secret to not having to cut it so often is to water it Sparingly less water equals slower growth. In the case of your front lawn. I would not water it anymore and then a few minutes But cover it all. You won't even need to water it anymore than two or three times a week just as long as it looks Healthy, your good. 2014 Honda Ctx700n. I averaged 14,000 miles at 67.07 mpg. Yes, I log every gallon of fuel. I enjoy boasting to Harley riders about mpg and how smooth the motor is.
You can't beat this bike.I had 2 of them a manual and a DCT. I'm not complaining, but I wanted to add that I didn't like the forward footrests. I am more comfortable riding with my feet underneath me. Also It would be nice to have a shaft drive to keep the maintenance down. The suspension needs to be beefed up for 2 up riding. The seat was uncomfortable, and to change the air filter was a nightmare. I know you can put a custom seat on it and add a nice rear shock. With that said, this is ultimately the most reliable, dependable, fuel, efficient long-lasting motorcycle you can buy. You can pick these up for 3k all day. These motorcycles will go 100,000 miles with regular maintenance, bulletproof engines, smooth as silk the horsepower and torque are perfect this is all you need to and basically half of a honda fit engine. I am shocked how these are not more popular.Unfortunately, most people buy harleys by name only they do not realize that there are a lot of other bikes out there that are super dependable and fun to ride. I'm hoping one day honda will bring out something with this engine that checks all of the boxes. Oh, did I mention that the center of gravity is so low that most anybody could ride this bike and be comfortable.
Agreed! I've mentioned that shaft drive issue a few times. If Honda would release the NC750X DCT with shaft drive, it would be the ultimate long-haul tourer and commuter... efficient and nearly ZERO maintenance. The NT700 Deauville ("dullville") was a shaftie, but it wasn't a big seller here in the States. 😒 --QM

I regret selling it to this day. I'm looking for an NC in good condition now, and I'd probably do the 2.5L swap for more torque. 😉👍 --QM
Great video as always. throttle therapy even if vicariously is always a treat for me here. so BTW isn't that the same 471cc engine as in the Rebel 500, The CB500F, CBR500R, CB500R etc.? Also I heard "Carl Peterson" or something close to that.
Yessir... it's the same parallel-twin across all of those bikes (CBR500R, CB500F/X, Rebel 500, and SCL500 Scrambler). Honda has made incremental tweaks and improvements to that powerplant over the years since the first gen (2013-2015). The upgrades have mostly been in the transmission with revised shift forks and drum, slipper clutch, and other minor tweaks. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
We're relatively fortunate to enjoy those "low" prices. However, we are sensitive to rises in fuel costs (particularly above $4.00/gal) because our commute distances are so long. The average person commutes over 40 miles/day for work here, so fuel costs add up quickly. I work with people who commute 150-200 miles DAILY for work... that's a lot of $$$! 🤯👍 --QM

Ls swap the Miata
I've thought about going that route, but that completely destroys the weight balance of the Miata. I'm interested in the 2.5L swap because it's a no-cut, no-mod upgrade (aside from minimal stuff like the ECU). If I had the time and money, I'd rather build a Factory Five 818... that would be 👌 --QM
