About people thinking you can get better performance with a high refresh rate display at 1080p. The PS5 will display only up to 120hz, regardless if your display can go above that. If it has VRR then it will use that too. The implementation will depend on each game as PS5 doesn't have low framerate compensation so if the framerate drops below 48 (let's say 47 fps) instead of using 94 fps to keep the motion smooth it will have screen tearing. The games will be rendered in the same base resolution but displayed in 1080 or if they are rendered on a lower resolution they will be upscaled to your display resolution. A game will have the same performance when shown on a 4k TV than on a 1080 monitor as the rendered resolution is the same. It's not like a pc where you can drop resolution and get better FPS. You are not changing the render resolution just the display resolution.
Actually it changes both. If you change it to performance it will literally change the upscaled 2k to 1080. It also isn't putting out the game as you said it tries to but it can't do it all the time. Especially in newer games or games not optimized because they only thought about remastered game

DF just does not get it with console players. They will never chose 30fps quality mode even with RT. 60 fps smoother game play comes above all else and 60fps performance mode does not use RT in newer games. 30fps with RT is ok if you stand still and do not move in the game .

Thinking that nobody uses fidelity modes is delusional. PS3 barely played games above 20fps a lot of the time. PS4 wasn't an extremely stable 30fps at 1080p until the Pro. People who want their games to look their best will deal with a steady 30fps framerate.
The reflection are ridiculously bad without RT and the water, I've literally just played half like 2 and the water/reflections looks better on that 20year old game than is does on this game.
I don't get why they aren't using THOSE methods today instead of this awful SSR and RTX performance killing tech. Is it like, impossible to do what valve did in GD 2004 ? ? ?
maaan, I can't really see a difference between these versions. And honestly, sometimes it actually looks much better on the base PS5... Like at 3:06 with this distracting instability of added reflections to the matt wooden wall... Such a miniscule upgrade. Def. not worth it for me.
@@c523jw7 this is why I love my PC. 1600p max settings, max ray tracing, DLSS quality, 60fps or custom 4K high RT off 60fps when playing Spiderman. 30fps RT on PS5 pro is just sad, and then I hear 120hz mode is 1080p locked while I can turn off RT at 1440p max and get 120fps. Maybe I should look at a full 4K gpu next 😂
We need an industry standard to aim for 60fps these days. 30fps is not cinematic. Thats a myth. It is Sh1te on a large TV. Imagine paying £830 for the console and drive and stand and to still be getting the dogs dirt of 30fps. 😂
Hardware unboxed did a whole video on ray tracing and found only like 5 gamew really benefits from the tech. Even global illumination that alex likes so much completely breaks lighting in scenery. I wouldnt make up my decision for a game that was made for nobody. If nobody can run these "modern" game releases then wtf is the point of buying new hardware? The fact that I can't get 60fps on these "modern" titles in native resolution, without using DLSS is a joke. When I ran monster hunter wilds beta it is insane to me that a machine with a ryzen 5950x and an rtx 4070 ti oc could not get 60fps at 4k or 1440p natively. The highest i ever got was in the 40fps range from a +$2,000 PC. The PS5 pro does not fix the problem, its an industry problem.
Kinda funny when stuff like this comes from people that in the next comment will say ps5pro is useless and garbage when these games run pretty well compared to PC and usually at higher resolutions. Maybe stop being dumb hypocrites and people will start listening to whiny PC fanboys. It's not the ps5pro's fault it runs better than a PC that costs more than twice. @fhf17 you have an overpriced PC that is 2 generations ahead uh? That is more than twice the price of a ps5pro... Then why are you here, crying that it runs like shit? 😂 Cuz mh ran really well on a base PS5. So are you an idiot or just justifying the money you spent? Nobody is poor shaming you. I'm idiot shaming you 😆 That's the issue is PC fanboys. All they can do is poor shaming when they get NOTHING out of their overpriced PC. All they can do is lower everything so they can AT LEAST say their fps is higher. Playing at 720p upscaled via DLSS and then going online to poor shame ps5pro 🤣 You never said those things, on that particular comment, sure. Until now. Every PC fanboy will justify their overpriced PC. Then go online to beg for ports, cry and whine about bad ports and how their 15000$ PC can't run a game 1440p 60fps. And once they get those ports, they won't buy them and just use them to PC masturbate race. Justify them not buying the ports after begging, because they are bad ports because their PC can't run them. Then go buy the latest overpriced PC part, just to show off and then use it to play valorant, farming simulator, Fortnite, warzone, Minecraft or some other crap from a decade ago like CSGO, lol or something, alongside people that brag about their PC and use a 200$ laptop or their parents PC for sending emails that has a 1070 or some other crap AMD GPU. Maybe you are not one of those toxic PC fanboy losers. I don't really care. You deserve the bad ports and the lack of optimization. I love how you have to spend twice to get the same performance (no, tinkering with settings to make it run at higher fps doesn't mean it runs "better". For 1:1 settings, just the GPU alone would cost like a console. Unless you go dumpster diving online, looking for used parts. For some reason that is always the fault for PC price comparisons. Console must be MSR pricing for a brand new console that has a controller, but PC is dumpster diving on ebay pricing, with some fundamental parts not included in the price, as well as no keyboard and mouse, Ethernet and hdmi cables that aren't included anywhere etc...funny how the PC ends up at a similar price like that)
PS5 Pro makes a cigarette ash tray that I will never see in the game have this unbelievable Ray Tracing reflections for the 1 second it will be on my tv screen... Ray Tracing is a Cancer to console, Since the launch of the new generation of consoles, they have tried to put Ray Tracing and reduce the resolutions, the result is these blurry games with poor resolution and poor quality ray tracing. We don't want ray tracing, we want a sharp image and resolution at 60fps,
Ah bullshit, Ray Tracing is a new tech to elevate consoles, look at GT7. It's still in the early stage like the RTX 2080 is to PC back then. Get with the times.
@@WheeledHamsterThat's still not an argument for its implementation in the present moment on consoles. Alan Wake is an anomaly being used to justify people not upgrading. Even still, I noticed better image quality on my Pro in Alan Wake 2 than the base PS5 (I’ve seen both side by side on a 85” TV). If Alan Wake is the worst case scenario on the Pro, so be it. The base PS5’s muddy graphics in performance mode was not how I want to play my games. As a former PC gamer of 20+ years, the Pro is the first console that delivers native looking imagery I was used to on my rigs. Nitpick all you guys want, I’m very satisfied with the vast improvement to image quality across patched and unpatched games thus far….even Alan Wake.
Dude it's not a third party game and a good test for this console. Your getting below low rt even in hogwarts legacy. More and more gsmes will come like this. Cyberpunk will also expose this console..wukong broken down will do the same, anything rt will show this is struggling.
Alan Wake 2 is the most advanced game released on the PS5 so it is indeed the best possible test to see what the PS5 Pro is capable of. These are the type of games where you want and expect the PS5 Pro to have a significant impact on the overall experience. But all this highlights is just how weak of an "upgrade" the PS5 Pro truly is. PSSR also seems disappointing in situations where you need it the most. Trading blows with FSR2 is not what we sold by Sony and various media outlets.
Then just have fun with it, nobody forbids your enjoyment of the hardware. For me the biggest reason to not upgrade (i bought the PS4 Pro) is the 1000+ Euros it costs in europe with disc drive. For that price the nice little upgrade isn't enough for me as i already own a still stronger middle class PC. Imo the upgrade in itself is ok for a Pro, a little less aditional rasterization power compared to the PS4 Pro upgrade, but better Upscaling and some more RT, but the price is imo too premium for that relative mild upgrade.
@@c523jw7 Hogwarts in its performance mode is now a native looking image. It was a blurry mess @ 60fps on the base PS5. Hogwarts is probably the most drastic game I’ve played in the Pro yet. It turned a game I switched to quality mode due to muddy graphics on the performance mode for the PS5, to a near flawless 4K image on the Pro. It’s a massive difference in fidelity. Don’t need glasses to see it. Spider-Man runs at a 4K image with all the RT of quality mode. This is what was advertised. 3rd party games will be varied depending on the dev. Some will do a great job (Square). Others will struggle (Remedy). Also, let’s give the devs a bit of time to see if a patch cleans this stuff up. The Pro has been out for a little over a week. There will be growing pains with new hardware. Let us take a look at DLSS comments when it was released, shall we?
PS5 Pro is how they are keeping us playing the same games over and over for half a decade now so we don't realize there's no major Original Sony IP games this current generation... The Last Of Us remastered of a remastered of a remastered of a remaster... Horizon remastered... Until Dawn remastered...Uncharted 4 and 5 remastered... Death Stranding Director's Cut aka remastered and that exclusive now shared with Xbox... Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut aka remastered... Original PS 4 Spiderman remastered... Meanwhile Cyberpunk keeps getting nominated every year for all the awards because 3rd party development of Original IP is also dead... They really think the fans are dumb or blind or all the above ...I have enough storage for 100 games and I have only installed 33 games this current generation since 2020 and maybe 4 of them are original IP for this current generation all other 25-27 games just cosmetic upgrades of PS4 or Xbox one original games.... This is the worst game generation for Sony since they joined the business with PS1
I want the video on my table, saying which nvidia graphics card is compatible with the PS5 PRO... Because from the looks of it, it doesn't have the power of an RTX 4070
I love rt lighting etc in games. Pt and rt are the future of gaming The problem is in trying to convince ppl it's better 😂 It's such a 'you gotta see to know' type of deal that I find describing it only pushes people further away. RT just needs to be baked into games without players knowing until later on so they say 'oh wow, rt made a difference'
It's always like this with new tech. I remember when HD TVs first started becoming regularly available. And tons of people claimed they couldn't see a difference in SD and HD.
As long as it is RT is at 30fps nobody will ever care . 30fps gaming should be long dead. 1080p/60fps without Rt is better than 4k/30 with all the RT in the world. You can ignore a widow or floor not being shiny in a game You can't ignore a shuttering 30fps for a entire game .
RT is good, but not at the expense of frames. How can you enjoy the image if it looks like a powerpoint? The improvement of RT over traditional reflections and lighting just isn't all that. What IS worth it though is Path Tracing. Now THAT's the future.
@@Sp3cialk304 I think that's due to the fact that the first 16:9 720p TVs were much larger than the previous 4:3 480p TVs, so the difference in pixel density was negligible. Not to mention most content during that switch looked better on CRTs than LCDs and plasma tvs. It wasn't until 1080p TVs and content made for it were people making the jump. People are also hesitant to jump on RT because they started experiencing 60fps at maxed out settings and aren't willing to step down to 30fps on lower settings just for slightly better lighting.
@@Crashed131963 This is the fault of console manufacturers thinking people care about 4K. We just barely jumped to 1080p last generation and are already thinking of jumping to 4x the pixel count. We should've pushed for 1440p60 and 1080p120, but noooooo.
5:13 this is why i bought the ps5pro. I tired of all games looking like blurry ass full of artifacts. FSR needs to go. The extra power is just an extra fir me. The 100-110fps average without ray tracing and 90-100fps average with ray tracing and strand hair vs 55fps average without ray tracing, is just an extra. Cant wait to not play mgs3 delta at 1080p 60fps on a base ps5. Cant wait to play mh wilds at 60fps and not looking like mh world at like 900p like the blurry beta. The ps5pro is future proofing for future games that already showcased that the base consoles have trouble running cuz nobody optimizes anything anymore. They just make a trash pc version and port to consoles that garbage, while they rely entirely on DLSS for pc and the AWFUL FSR for consoles., They need to go back to optimizing games for consoles first, as pc is usually 5 to 10% of total sales. Until then, PSSR should do the trick. Everyone against the pro and even a next gen consoles coming out in the next 2/3 years, are fkn IDIOTS.

Maybe he can use less commas, maybe he can use less complex sentences. It's really tiring trying to follow what he says and i'm a translator, i earn my living by translating English texts to my native language. My English is not as advanved as Digital Foundry guys but i'm above average, near advanced level. And i really struggle to understand some stuff, mostly when Oliver speaks. :D So maybe Oliver can take my suggestion into consideration. Well, maybe i can accept this fact as a challenge to improve my English. :D Anyways, i will keep on watching Digital Foundry videos regardless, cause the things they talk about are of my interest. :D Maybe in time i can attune myself to Oliver's style of English. :D

You know. DF started out way back in the seventh generation as a written segment of Eurogamer by Tom and Rich. It existed out of necessity to compare and contrast ports so that consumers could avoid bad ones, in a generation where a PS3 port could be utterly broken. These days however, Digital Foundry has become a beast which no longer serves a purpose. It's simply a bloated wing of the parent company which owns IGN - and it's endless click-bait videos of pretentious men with lisps (and unearned egos), droning on and on about the same exact pointless minor effect differences, week after week.... Often in the same games they cover week after week. At some point, enough is enough. You could literally construct a drinking around how many times they say "RT Reflections" and "RTGI" in nearly every video. The audience has gotten the point already, yet each video is essentially the same conversation repeated to nauseum every bloody week. What purpose do many of these videos serve? Perhaps sponsors and advertisers - but not the actual gaming community as a whole. The small but vocal Fanboys can harvest each repeated point as nuggets for ammo, and the even fewer who care about rendering effects and 1% differences will praise the modern "content" - but it's purpose at this point is simply to sustain DF nothing more of usefulness the majority of the time. While they do console or port comparisons infrequently, it's not lost that weekly you have people naturally concerned that they have yet missed more AAA releases, to instead drone on about a patch or update that move a light source in a 3 year old game, few people are playing. Or a segment to repeat talking points about the PS5 Pro or Johns snobby upper 10% issues with his expensive displays or some obscure indie games he spend more time staring at (and writing Haikus about) than actually playing. I don't know what the point of DF is anymore, than to create a new toxic atmosphere and feed console war fanboys and elitists in the PCMR and Retro gaming community (and I say this as a PC guy and 40 year old who plays my old games). This has gone so far past the actual games, or providing people with the actual useful service informing purchases on mass products. I'm not sure they really just want to review old $50,000 SIkicon Graphics Workstation and $5,000 Halo Product OLEDs - then wax on for twenty-five minutes straight about a shadow cascade from lamp being slightly softer in a puzzle platformer on switch than a RTX 4090 PC.... Seriously. Just review CG movies and rendering software and be done with the games. This has essentially become a channel where you repeatedly harp about th same few games, spout the same contrived talking points like catch phrases (infact: "bespoke" is one), and ignore actual requests to cover useful data in helping people with their real world purchases... That is unless it's a $800 mid Gen refresh console or a $2200 (street value) Halo Product GPU. DF of 2024 is so far removed from any usefulness to the casual gamers, that the only thing more out of touch - are, indeed, the very people who made it this way. Which brings me back to the forward of this comment (if I had wrote one). What purpose does the DF of 2024 serve to the common consumer, who works all week, and just wants to quickly find valuable purchasing information they cannot get elsewhere before they pull the trigger on a game? Because it seems too me this has become a exercise in how far material can be stretched weekly while stroking the egos of only those who have the most premium hardware, and a small community of toxic console psychophants who live on social media to worship billion dollar corporations who do not know they exists. SMH 🙂↔️🤦♂️🤷♂️
I see your points though I don’t think the casual gamer is as involved to go watch a DF video. At least judging from the people I know. They provide extremely detailed tech videos that I still can’t find elsewhere to this level caliber. And anyone who even attempts, they just reference Digital Foundry and their videos! Channels grow and evolve and I understand it may not be the same you once recognized though as they’ve grown; they’ve had to cater to a larger audience.
You are right in some parts. I also find it ridiculous to dwell on some really very minor details at 300% zoom. It's pointless, serves no purpose at all for me and 90% of the people. Recently I thought to myself that if I was a part of DF crew, I would simply just say that many of the discussed details simply does not matter 🤣 I would probably be fired. I really like the crew of Digital Foundry, I think they are funny, smart and passionate about what they do (and you can clearly see their passion in most of the videos). Their analyses have always been targeting a very small fraction of gamers - I really find it interesting how games are built, what tech has been used etc, and here the DF delivers. But I absolutely don't care whether shadow resolution on 300% zoom is better on PS5 than XSX. And I think your point here is valid.
Wow really? Why do we need another pro video for this game after you guys spent over a whole 40 minutes on the first video? Necessary or just pushing the ps5 pro thing.

While its a nifty addition, its not for me.
I'll choose framerate over graphics every time.
The fact that a consoles can have RT should be impressive enough, there's too many whiners here. It's not for casuals.

We need an industry standard to aim for 60fps these days. 30fps is not cinematic. Thats a myth. It is Sh1te on a large TV. Imagine paying £830 for the console and drive and stand and to still be getting the dogs dirt of 30fps. 😂

It's a specific oc problem that trickled down to consoles.
So I'm gonna be just as smug and say "hahaha loser 😂 just get a ps5pro if you wanna play monster hunter wilds"

Not trying yo sound like a PC elitist but the fact is when it comes to PC gaming we are always a GENERATION or TWO ahead of the consoles. I find it funny 🤣that somehow you think you can poor shame me because I have a $2,000+ Gaming PC over a $700 PS5 Pro. I am waiting to get my new Sony Bravia 7 65inch TV for my bedroom for my PS5.
@fhf17 you have an overpriced PC that is 2 generations ahead uh? That is more than twice the price of a ps5pro...
Then why are you here, crying that it runs like shit? 😂
Cuz mh ran really well on a base PS5.
So are you an idiot or just justifying the money you spent? Nobody is poor shaming you. I'm idiot shaming you 😆
That's the issue is PC fanboys. All they can do is poor shaming when they get NOTHING out of their overpriced PC. All they can do is lower everything so they can AT LEAST say their fps is higher.
Playing at 720p upscaled via DLSS and then going online to poor shame ps5pro 🤣
You never said those things, on that particular comment, sure.

30 fps is like a shite sandwich no amount of RT mustard will make it taste good .
Did not the Ps1, ps2 ps3 and Ps4 play at 30fps? It almost 2025 time to 30fps to lay beside the VCR in the grave.
PS2 ran at 60fps. The push for increased quality forced games back down to 30fps on future systems
Ayo I’m dead af a shit sandwich 😂 100 percent agree that’s why I built a gaming PC
Even trying few games at 40FPS modes, I'm missing that bit of fluidity from 60.
Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm not sure. I'm sold on the visuals of RT, but I'm not going to be using RT until I can get a smooth experience.
@@Granpire max RT literally changes the way games look for the better, but I will agree the consoles still suck at it, but they needed to start somewhere
Alan wake 2 is so graphically demanding
I want the video on my table, saying which nvidia graphics card is compatible with the PS5 PRO... Because from the looks of it, it doesn't have the power of an RTX 4070

I love rt lighting etc in games. Pt and rt are the future of gaming
The problem is in trying to convince ppl it's better 😂
It's such a 'you gotta see to know' type of deal that I find describing it only pushes people further away.
You can ignore a widow or floor not being shiny in a game
You can't ignore a shuttering 30fps for a entire game .
Being able to play re4 without that trash all over the screen all the time is good enough.
They just make a trash pc version and port to consoles that garbage, while they rely entirely on DLSS for pc and the AWFUL FSR for consoles.,
They need to go back to optimizing games for consoles first, as pc is usually 5 to 10% of total sales. Until then, PSSR should do the trick. Everyone against the pro and even a next gen consoles coming out in the next 2/3 years, are fkn IDIOTS.

They can keep the Ps5 Pro why ? I have a Ps5 and a Pc with top specs.
Wow really? Why do we need another pro video for this game after you guys spent over a whole 40 minutes on the first video? Necessary or just pushing the ps5 pro thing.
