There is no way PS5 Pro Ray Tracing can compare to a 4070 in terms of Ray Tracing. Why not have the PS5 Pro just focus on providing a 4K 60 with PSSR, instead of a blurry image with Low RT.
All these stupid videos are because pc owners feel threatened so they make up stuff to feel better about, like comparing a 700 dollar console to a top of the line 4000 dollar PC build.
@@provisionalhypothesis I don't think you need 4000$ to build a PC with a 4070. More like 1000$. Still quite more expensive, but nowhere near as much you claim it is.
@@bariscyilmaz the plus is: with a good pc you automatically have a free switch (and maybe a switch 2 when it launches), a free ps3 (and soon a ps4 too!), ps2, wii, gamecube, and all other consoles prior. with ps5 you just have the ps5. AND when the ps6 launches you won't need to buy a new pc, just upgrade your GPU and this will be so much cheaper than a new console!
I just got my first big boy PC like a few weeks ago and I’m still blown away by how much I was missing out. Just a few months ago I was hyped for the pro. Got a big bonus from work, spent about 1500 on a mid-high level pc and I’m floored. Still have my PS5 slim and switch, and will keep playing them but yeah, I feel so late to the game 😂
Tbh.. you have to zoom and / or stay still to see these differences. People here act like there are world differences, but in reality if you are actutally playing... no, it is not a big deal. It is same like PS5 vs PS5 Pro. PC may have a bit better details, but not like in the past. You really have to look for it. I think people need channels like this to justify there choice or to make them feel better about the money they spend. Focus should be more on gameplay and creative ideas... instead of some pixels.

Also YT's compression will take a crisp capture and muddy it up so that differences are even harder to spot, though DF does their best.
Actually, there is a mod called Control RT on Nexus mode that enables the PS5 Pro’s Ray Tracing, denoising and shadow filtering options. The rest is just matching the console on resolution.

Alan Wake 2 isn’t poorly optimized. It’s just that some of the rendering techniques being used here (mesh shading) are THAT expensive and things need to be tweaked and/or disabled to run on lower end hardware. That is optimization by definition.

Sony Fanboy here, yea theres a few kinks to work out. We see good results in some games and strange results in others. Im sure DLSS and FSR had a few growing pains as well. Lets see how PSSR improves over the next three years.
I have 3080ti, 1620p dlss quality and high preset with few on ultra for a locked 60 is the best you can do. If you want to play with ray tracing even 1440p dlss balanced won't get you a rock solid 60 fps but I suggest you to use lossless scaling frame generation and play at 1440p dlss quality, that's the best way to play it on RTX 3080ti or use DLSS to fsr mod for getting fsr frame generation.
That noise and shimmering is so disturbing and a clear disadvantage compared to DLSS. The entire point of upscaling and making it lookalike a higer resolution is...well...to have all the benefits of that higher resolution, right? So shimmering, aliasing, flickering noise has to go. PSSR is not close to DLSS, not at all if i look at those comparisions. The worst thing is, you cannot turn them off. If a developer implemented PSSR in a bad way, you got to take the punch...or get a PS5 standard as backup.
We were well on our way to every game being 4K 60 on console, until someone decided that we needed ray tracing in everything. It's just not worth the hit in performance.
@@DragonOfTheMortalKombat No. The PS5 is not equivalent to a 4070 or 3080. Nvidia cards are capable of better raytracing than AMD cards, which is what is in the Pro. Also, DLSS is (right now at least) a superior upscaling technology than PSSR, which is still in its infancy. The GPU the most similar to the one in the PS5 is the 7700 XT. Any person knowledgeable about tech will agree with this.
It's currently impossible to get a fairly accurate comparison GPU on PC. Although the 7700XT is probably is in the same ballpark on rasterization performance, it'll fall short on RT performance since the Pro uses next gen RDNA 4 RT cores. The Pro also has AI hardware acceleration, where the 7700XT doesn't. Where as say choosing a 4070 is just a bad choice, since it's just an alround better GPU. Although it has AI hardware acceleration, DLSS is just better than PSSR. It also put's out far more rasturization performance, has better quality and higher performance RT and has AI Frame Gen to boot, which the Pro doesn't have. Whatever GPU you pick on PC to compare to the Pro there's always at least a couple of disparities and mismatches here and there, which you have to take into account. Be it rasturization performance, RT quality or performance, AI hardware acceleration, Frame Gen, VRAM amount or memory bandwidth. Personally, I'd say the current best fits are either: 1. A 16GB 4060Ti, if the game is using RT & AI upscaling, but isn't too bandwidth heavy. It might also fall slightly short of the Pro on rasturization performance 2. A 3070 or 3070Ti, if using RT & AI, but only when the game is not using a lot of VRAM. 3. A 7700XT as long as the game is only using rasturization and not heavily using RT & AI upscaling.
There is a lot of testers That says using PSSR on GOW reduce the FPS counter from 115 to 90 when PSSR is active... Maybe That is the differences That you are seeing
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The base ps5 should aim for solid 1440p experience( at most). (Unless it's an older game and the game can be pushed to 4k 60 with the highest graphical settings). The ps5 pro is entry level 4k gaming. I would not even try to implement Ray tracing on it as it doesn't have the true horse power to do so for 4k 60 fps. Instead, take all that horse power and give us better shadow maps, textures, global illumination lighting, etc. Leave Ray tracing for the ps6 when the horse power will be there! If the ps5 pro can't handle 4k, obviously use pssr to upscale it from 1080p or 2k. But don't go native unless it's an easy to run game. And hold off on the tracing, it's too taxing!(I'd rather have 0 RT than RT and a mediocre looking game)

Building a PC with an RTX 4070 can cost between $1,400 and $1,600, depending on the exact components you choose. Here’s a breakdown based on current market pricing: • GPU (RTX 4070): Around $550-$600. • CPU: Options like the Intel Core i5-14600K cost about $250-$340. AMD alternatives like the Ryzen 5 7600 are slightly cheaper, at around $220-$270. • Motherboard: A mid-range option (DDR5-compatible) costs $150-$200. • RAM: 32GB DDR5 memory is about $85-$100. • Storage: A 1TB NVMe SSD can be found for $50-$70. • Case: Good airflow cases like Lian Li or Montech models are around $80-$100. • Power Supply: A 650W or 750W Gold-rated PSU is approximately $80. • Cooling: Air coolers are $30-$60, while AIO liquid coolers may add $80-$120. • Operating System: Windows 11 (Home) costs $120-$140 if bought separately. For a build optimized for 1440p gaming with future-proofing for 4K, this setup would provide excellent performance. Building it yourself saves some cost compared to prebuilt options, which usually start at $1,800 for similar specs .

For a console PS5 Pro is good overall, regardless of it's shortcomings..... My unique reason for not wanting a Pro is the reliance on VRR to get the best performance. I have a LG C3 so running that feature is no problem, however..... If you run VRR....all modern TV's will disable all extra features on the TV that make it dynamic. Not being able to use the TV's interpolation/frame gen, which is amazing on the C3 and has no artifacts or noticeable input lag is a deal breaker. On my PC i can lock it to 60fps using Riva Tuner (amazing) and Vsync if the game has tearing. It works perfect and I'm still be able to use all the amazing picture settings and frame gen from the TV
@@danloki78 More chances of tearing though. Also, with modern games (UE especially) that's no guarantee for 60fps. It's been shown already where games are fluctuating quite often. Just gonna say the 2080Ti is still a monster GPU. It has aged VERY well in every way except RT performance and power consumption. DLSS upscaling image quality has improved massively since 2018 and 11gb VRAM is great for 4K. If you kept your 2080Ti you are validated. Turing is good.

I kinda feel like if your going to severly limit ray tracing, you are better off not using it, and using better rasterized effects, performance should be way higher, and it might even look better. If your cutting corners with ray tracing like only using it on reflections and cutting down the bvh, its not really correct ray tracing.
the more coverage I watch on the PS5 Pro I feel like Sony really shouldn't have made it at all. Honestly, these comparisons with a higher-mid range GPUs on the PC side are not very flattering for Sony. I understand that PSSR is not there yet and DLSS has had years of head-start. I get it all. But you can expect better ray-tracing on a 750-isch $ brand new, PRO console. These rough reflections in many scenes look crazy bad. Distracting as hell. I feel like PS6 will be really great once Sony gets enough time to iron out stuff.. but as of right now PS5 Pro isn't looking very hot.
One thing to make note of is that digital foundry will almost never upload anything that will make ps5 look good. They are a pc centric channel, and their parent company is pc centric. Just maybe you are the one that is biased… maybe do a little introspection… also Spider-Man games are made as PS5 exclusives so it isn’t shocking it has basically zero raytracing going on … compared to games made for PC,Xbox, and Sony … Digital foundry is giving the PS5 pro more love than they should honestly it’s embarrassing it can’t use PSSR and hit 4k60 even at extremely low settings it’s basically as strong as a 2080ti hahaha that card is 6 years old that’s insane for $700 today you could build a 3080 Pc for $800 if you know how to shop a little bit especially in this market it’s best time ever to build a PC with last gen hardware and you will have a PS6 level performance 2 years before PS6 is even announced
So your saying that they shouldn't compare image quality on different systems. I have a regular Ps5 and a amazing pc. I play some games on PC and some on Ps5. I feel the PS5 Pro is more an experiment around pricing as it’s full of compromises on relatively old hardware. Sony need to look at dedicated AI chip in next Gen, and not on exisiting tech built into existing APUs. Sony also need to look at the newer cpus, the latest Ryzen are really pushing ahead at the moment. The biggest question to ask is what will they try to charge for the PS6 and as a result what hardware will go into it. They also need to up their game catalog and review game prices, they are simply getting to high. If these are not addressed I can see more and more people moving over to a PC.
ok, so the PS5 Pro Quality Mode is still ugly and show nothing more than the LOW RT PC LOL. WHAT A 800$ SCAM 😂. I made some tests on an a 2017 GPU GTX 1660 Super, it displays the lights and shadows better with ambient occlusion. The RT on console is just marketing because you have a shitty AMD Zen 2 processor inside. Stop comparing a 2019 console with 2024 PC GPu, that's a nonsense. The PS6 will be far more powerful with Zen4 or 5 and will help the AI graphics capabilities of the consoles. Trust me.
I’m honestly getting sick of digital foundry covering this. It’s misleading people into thinking that the pro is offering a hampered experience. Alan wake 2 is a terribly optimized game. Not only is it the least visually impressive pro game, It also runs very poorly. It’s an anomaly, just like the also poorly optimized Jedi survivor. We should place blame on the developer and not the console. Plenty of pro patch games look and run fantastically with all the bells and whistles. Sony can’t fix shotty developing the same way an overpriced $2000 PC can.
Also is 2000 pc overpriced compared to a console that can't run low pc rt settings? You paid almost double for this console for 50 games and 4 of which are worse than the base...you got ripped off really bad dude.
@@c523jw7 Interesting because most of my games in my PS5 library looks significantly better not just the pro enhanced ones. I sold my PS5 for $300 and paid $400 for the upgrade. How can the pro be a ripoff if you can’t build a PC for the same price with similar performance? Again, low ray tracing on a terribly optimized game. Let’s pull out Horizon and see how that looks, buddy.
I think it's time to acknowledge that Sony played their fans again. They do this every time with hardware. It's time to accept that Sony lie through their teeth about hardware performance, they always do.

Except it is on capable hardware like rtx 4070 and above or 3080 12gb and above.
Personally, I'd say the current best fits are either:
1. A 16GB 4060Ti, if the game is using RT & AI upscaling, but isn't too bandwidth heavy. It might also fall slightly short of the Pro on rasturization performance
2. A 3070 or 3070Ti, if using RT & AI, but only when the game is not using a lot of VRAM.
3. A 7700XT as long as the game is only using rasturization and not heavily using RT & AI upscaling.

Here’s a breakdown based on current market pricing:
• GPU (RTX 4070): Around $550-$600.

It's much worse, it looks bad its a glorified mid end PC without the ability to let you do anything but game. So bad. Here they come. Wait for the Ponys..
lol. Totally
Agree
@@alfredoalejandro87 you got ponies now trying to rewrite history and say no one said that it would out perform a 4090. They took the 4070 claim because DF said it could be around a downclocked 4070.
They praised DF for that now they are trying to say DF doesn’t post anything positive about the Sony.
PSSR is still in development
You didn't get lynched. There may have been 2 people who actually thought pssr would be better than dlss. Comparing that to a lynching is a joke
@@turrican4d599 they could have just added it to the base and work off of that. To charge a premium for something that is still in development is kind of scummy.
The performance of the PS5 Pro was much lower than expected.
Before its release, it was expected to have the same performance as a more expensive PC, but in reality, the performance of the PS5 Pro was the same as a PC of the same price as the Pro. The Pro also has many image quality problems, including noise. There are many problems that need to be solved.
it's not, my theory is that they just attached an ai upscaling tech to the initial apu and call it a day, by upscaling half and sometimes 1/3 res ray tracing and upscaling harder from even lower rest into 2K and 4K to safe on performance. Methinks they just use 2 upscaling gimmicks ontop of each other and sometimes framegen in other resolution modes. those are all bandaids around a gpu that is barely the equivalent of an rtx 3060 / rx 6700 xt
Consoles will never give you "the more expensive PC" settings. Unless it was a more expensive PC from 5 years ago. This thing is basically on par with an rtx 3060 ti
So AMD finally was able to catch with Nvidia RT ! 2080Ti.. so impressive 🙈
Amd has gpus on par with the 4080, at least in rasterisation, and the 3090 in rt. The one on the ps5 pro is a power efficient, cost effective low-midrange option
I was thinking the same thing for the power draw what the ps5 pro is doing is super impressive. Even the efficient gpus like 4060 ti are pulling 2/3 the power and that’s only the gpu.
@@urmomma2688 LMFAO no AMD GPU is matching 3090 in RT.
@@majicalpandatech And who cares about power efficiency in a home console powered by wall ? Like why does it matter ?If you want portability, there are laptops out there with more performance and better efficiency than PS5 pro.
@@DragonOfTheMortalKombat ah yes. Its actually between the 3080ti and the 3090. My point has been destroyed nooooo /s
At this rate, Sony will drop the price of their professional console to 550 max
I dont understand people who think "one side is winning" my pc cost me like 3000 usd, my 4090 was about 1300 usd alone. It clearly and easily beats the PS5 pro, but i had to use frame gen though for 4k, DLLS quality Ray tracing ultra and path tracing.... But I still bought a PS5 and I like what they are doing for some titles... Alan Wake 2.. I dunno seems to hard to run. But FF7 rebirth looks amazing :) they are both completely different platforms
I don't get coverage for this boring game!
RT is the most overrated thing in the last 5 years.
Yeah if your on a ps5 pro..totally over rated.
Whats a 4070? How much that cost?
Like 400 dollars, maybe less on Christmas when the 5090 is announced
We’ve had Ray Tracing since 2018 and it still feels like a beta test technology after 6 years…….6 years for goodness sake. It’s still so niche of a technology surely that means the mass market doesn’t want it. People saying it’s great on a 3080ti or 4070. Great less than 1% of the overall market have those class of GPU’s 🤦♂️. Just give us games with the well thought out baked lighting and good Screen Space reflections and leave us to our 4k60. Or at least give us the option to drop RT all together in favour of performance. I haven’t got time to stand around looking at reflections in a puddle when I’m engrossed in actually playing a game.

Is ray tracing on ps5 pro really worth it considering how distracting these effects are?
No. And wouldn’t it be nice if this fixation with an overpriced most can’t afford product could stop for awhile?
Ray tracing is rarely worth it
well i do think PS should 1st make the games 60 fps steady and then think about RT and btw Consoles do not use full RT like PC's cause that will kill the system
@@christonchev9762 not many pc use Ray tracing to its full extent unless you've got a 4090 ect. The ps pro is a decent gaming pc for £700 you couldn't build a pc to that spec
@@roberttitchener1821 BUT you pay to play online. That PS plus money could instead go into a better PC
well lets see here. PSSR is a new technology, while dlss has been out since 2019, so if you do the math thats 5 years. nvidia had 5 years to tweak their AI upscaler. Do you think when dlss when it came out, it didnt have problems? This is common sense. Bunch of ignorant people on the internet, not surprised.

Who is this video for? It just makes people who paid 800 bucks for a really nice console feel terrible. Again, leave it to DF to make gamers feel like crap.
You talk like it was not expected to be a bad investment...
@DonJuanitito there are a ton of games that this console makes look great and DF wants to ignore. I hope you enjoy watching 10 more videos on Alan Wake and Jedi survivor and ill be sitting here drooling over Resident Evil 4 and Village, The Crew Motorfest, Lords of the Fallen and The Calisto Protocol just to name a few.
The video points out how Sony just keeps on lying.. at one point, there were rumors stating the pro would trump an rtx3080 😂, welcome back to reality where the ps5 pro trade blows with a 3060ti
@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 so a rumor makes Sony liars? Wild...
@@ctestdummy83 He's not very bright
The trade offs are good value for the pro.
Alex, are you really trying yo make people belive that the PS5 Pro is weaker than an RTX 2080 TI ?!
When you have visuals like Spiderman 2 with top noch Raytracing on that and its open world ?!
Or Callisto Protocol with 4K/60FPS/RT or 8K/RT/30FPS ?!
spiderman 2 is not on pc yet and anyways sony doesn't like too scale games beyond their console ports, no one cares about Calisto protocol game was ass when released, Alan wake 2 like it or not has the best RT implementation so far.
@@brokeashellgaming999 It has the worst RT implementation on the PS5 Pro, and it's not the platform's fault since there are games out there that look WAY better than AW2 on the PS5 Pro with way better RT implementation.
So it CANNOT be the console's fault.
Not that AW2 runs good on the PC.
It's the worst optimized game this generation after Black Myth Wukong.
It doesn't matter if Callisto Protocol is popular or not.
I am simply talking about how the F it looks and runs and the Pro.
Such a stupid logic you have.
"The game is not popular so it doesn't matter how it looks and tuns vs AW2"
It perfectly matter in this context cause it's the main subject.
By your logic we should also discard AW2 because it sold so poorly that Remrdy barely got 55% of their AW2 production $$$ back. It will never break even. Not to mention making a profit.
AW2 should NOT be a reference point on how games should look and/or run on any console.because that game is pure garbage when it comes to optimization.
@CrashBashL What I meant is the optimization for calisto protocal was trash. On PC Alan wake 2 is a tech showcase, It has RT that is top of the line. Consoles haven't been able to match it, so it makes sense that DF would want to see if the pro was able to bridge that gap.
@CrashBashL Want to add that as far as optimization goes, I played through Alan wake 2 on ultra settings with path tracing enabled, and it was a very smooth experience, and it is the best looking game I've ever played.
@@CrashBashL2080Ti can easily to do that, compare the ps5 pro with the 2080Ti on the same exact console settings and the 2080Ti will play on higher fps
Not worth it the 700
@ That too. 500 was expensive already.
Hmmmm not another case of everybody hyping up a console to be the most amazing PC like powerful machine that falls short of even mid range GPUs on PC. I feel like I’ve seen this before.😂
i could care less about raytracing. I just care about my fps being 60+ and the story of the game. thats the only reason i got the ps5 pro, only for the performance boost on the gpu.
Its always raining on the Pro☔😢
DF has recently been focused on the games that have issues like AW2, Silent Hill 2 and Jedi Survivor, but lots of games have impressive PS5 Pro upgrades like FF7 Rebirth, F1 24, Last of Us 2, Spider-Man 2, Crew Motorsport and Ratchet Rift Apart.
Feel the power of that Zen 2 processor, it's totally radical dude!
Who cares about this game?
It's so bad it hasn't even broken even after 1 year.
Who cares about reflection of a game no one plays?
Now this IS the excuse? 😂😂😂
It's an Epic Store exclusive outside of mainstream appeal that obviously cost a whole lot to develop and has really high hardware requirements. The potential amount of costumers is just really low, this has nothing to do with the games quality. Equating game sales to quality is stupid in any situation, even more so in situations like this where the odds are stacked against the game
@ ok. Let's waste our times with Concord, skull and bones, unknown 9, etc. All the flops nobody plays just to test "reflections". They should make videos on games people are playing even if they have worst "reflections".
Most gamers would rather see details of physics improvements in certain new games than "reflection", dlss, fsr, etc on Alan wake 2.
I was hoping it’d match the 4070 at least. I guess not.
Not even matching the 3070.
Wait but remedy has uploaded some patch focused for the ps5 pro for this game or is running on the same version???
We need more Alan Wake 2 videos
I love my ps5 pro. Sell your older ps5 version. If you have a LG C3, G4 oled version are amazing .Samsung oled also. Im really enjoying it
Amazing video, thank you Digital Foundry.
PS5pro version looks rubbish compared to Microsoft PC and Xbox Series I thought ponies said PS5pro got pssr and all this other bs doesn't look like it at all
I kinda feel like if your going to severly limit ray tracing, you are better off not using it, and using better rasterized effects, performance should be way higher, and it might even look better. If your cutting corners with ray tracing like only using it on reflections and cutting down the bvh, its not really correct ray tracing.
A 4070 can run Alan Wake 2 with pathtraching...
And the 5000 Series is on the corner, how can sony charge 800 euros for this?
It's called "cashing in on outdated tech before the new stuff arrives"
A Pleb Station is a pleb station no matter how “pro” they make it sound.
...all this for game that didn't sell enough to cover its expenses. I personally liked it, but still too much fuss about Alan Wake 2.
As expected, RDNA4 ray tracing is disappointing once again.
What a joke ps5 pro quality mode is everything you want except quality... this is crap
ps5 pro graphics looks like crap when compare to pc graphics
the more coverage I watch on the PS5 Pro I feel like Sony really shouldn't have made it at all.
Hopefully RDNA 4 will be better than this
One thing to make note of is that digital foundry will almost never upload anything that will make ps5 look good. They are a pc centric channel, and their parent company is pc centric. Its not in their best interest to take you out of the pc economy and not on to ps. Like why not compare spidermans raytracing on ps5 to pc. Because the difference isnt as huge i wager.
DF coverage of PS5 and Xbox Series S|X were both very positive against PC at launch in 2020.
Nah. You might see a little bit of PC biased from Alex but John is also very biased towards consoles so it evens out.
Just maybe you are the one that is biased… maybe do a little introspection… also Spider-Man games are made as PS5 exclusives so it isn’t shocking it has basically zero raytracing going on … compared to games made for PC,Xbox, and Sony …
Digital foundry is giving the PS5 pro more love than they should honestly it’s embarrassing it can’t use PSSR and hit 4k60 even at extremely low settings it’s basically as strong as a 2080ti hahaha that card is 6 years old that’s insane for $700 today you could build a 3080 Pc for $800 if you know how to shop a little bit especially in this market it’s best time ever to build a PC with last gen hardware and you will have a PS6 level performance 2 years before PS6 is even announced
So your saying that they shouldn't compare image quality on different systems. I have a regular Ps5 and a amazing pc. I play some games on PC and some on Ps5. I love my Ps5 but I didn't upgrade to a Ps5 pro mainly because it's a bullshit upgrade. Ps5 players were sold a dream and it's nonsense. The cpu is too slow
@@JoeWayne84 im not biased, is digital foundry not a pc centric channel? Is their parent and sibling companies not pc centric? Is that not having a vested interest of ppl staying or going to pc? Spiderman has raytracing? And i think it would have been a better comparison because obviously puts more work into its games.
Zero point in buying a ps5 pro
Trust me.
My 4070 super destroys the xbox
Jeez the graphics look horrible on ps5 pro
ALAN GO TO SLEEP...SO WE NEVER HAVE TO HEAR ABOUT THIS POS EVER...AGAIN!! LOL
Amd can't do rt they should focus on increasing the resolution

I'll go ahead and stick with my PC, i don't care if it costs more.
Quality mode?? Wgaf
Yeah , RE4 Is very good optimized, but Capcom devs aré pros , not like the creators of Alan wake
I most certainly did not get ripped off. It’s about the same money I used to pay when upgrading my GPU on my old rigs and is giving the similar performance boost.
@@_Refurbished_ becuase you got really 50 games properly updated and 4 are worse.
