    Thank you very much for this video. It helped immensely. I might add that you do not have to take the hand grip off, but rather you can lift it up with a knife or other flat object to get to the screws -- now that you have shown us where they are!

    This is amazing and works perfect on my 20x80 skymasters. I didn't take off the grip I just used a small flat head screw driver to lift up the grip where the screw is. The grip isn't glued where the screws are and lifts up pretty easy. I was surprised at how easy this actually was. By doing this you are not damaging the grip or binoculars in any way. The screws have some sort of clear silicon type of covering that can be just dug out with the screw driver. Luckily I didn't have to do much playing around turning the screws to stop seeing double vision. I just had to turn both screws clockwise just a small fraction and the image was perfect. Thanks for this video it appears to be the only one around

      Glad it could help mate! I couldn't find anything online and I took a shot in the dark. I have NO IDEA why manufacturers don't make this common knowledge. It is actually a positive feature to be able to adjust the collimation.

      +robmurray2005 they probably don't want you to know where the screws are so they can charge you for the service. Damn celestron!! again thanks for the video mate, up until yesterday I was experiencing bad double image and I really didn't want to send these off in the post anywhere, hassle etc. oh yeah and by the way where ever you live is beautiful!

    Thank you, Now with my Skymaster 20x80 all is ok. I wonder why the supplier does not provide this information to the binoculars. Then he would not get so many negative comments and angry customers. Now I can enjoy the mountains without squinting. The Zugspitze is only once and not twice as before the adjustment.Greetings from Bavaria in Germany.

    Will give this a try, thanks for posting. Celestron used to have a lifetime warranty with these. However when I sent mine in because of the same issue they asked for receipt which I sent. When I got the new pair. No receipt sent with the new ones and they did the same thing. When I tried sending those in they said "no receipt, no warranty". They have been sitting in the case for several years now. Will try this, and if i cant fix it will put them in the garbage. Thanks for posting

I recomend start with the screws in the same posicion with a small adjust in the right and the left and repeat, you will see a better unique image. after continue with the others 2 screws in the other same posicion. this video really help me to fix my binoculars. in amazon's forum many persons purchase celestron's binoculars this this problem and don't have idea how to fix it

    What I'm wondering is - Which screw adjusts the vertical alignment? You say you can do both, but you don't say what screw does what. I know that the top screw near the eye piece adjusted the horizontal, by my BIG problem is vertical misalignment. Since there are two other screws (one that is harder to get to) it would be nice to know the correct one that I need to adjust.

  • @kaje01

    Thank you for this. I am considering buying this binocular and discovered this issue. People say it's very difficult to fix but it looks like they're just too intimidated to get into it. I'll definitely be getting this pair. If you've still got your hand grip I'm sure you can find a good glue to stick it back on with. I would avoid anything really permanent... might be cool to drill some holes in the rubber so you don't have to remove them again?

    • @robmurray2005
      @robmurray2005  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a good idea now that we know where they are. Might be able to probe around and find the indent and then lift up that tiny little flap. I was about to throw them out however so it was last resort stuff to rip the whole grip off

Oddly enough after purchasing a couple of other brands of 15X70 binoculars and finding them terribly out of collimation, I bought a pair of Celestrons which are the lowest price of the group, and when the arrived they were perfect in optical alignment. I think I'll wait until I drop them a couple of times and misalign them before I peel the covers off. :)

      Pretty much! They never shut up. Particularly in the morning and afternoon. we get magpies, cockatoos and kookaburras demanding food and dive bombing us when we eat on the deck. We have a winter for about 3 months, gets down to about 5c - about 40f but because we are on the coast it never gets too cold. Fireplace goes on about a dozen times a year. But even in winter the birds are always there

    I think if we just cut the rubber half in circle over the screw would be better because we can cover that screw and if needed again you can just lift that small piece of rubber and play with the screw.
    Do not cut rubber completely in circle just half of circle (round shape the size of screw head but half) so it stay back on screw.

    Hey mate, cheers for the video! Ive been looking at getting a pair of these for a while but was hesitant because of the collimation issues I've read about on the cheaper celestrons, but if it's as simple as a few screws and reseating the housing thats really no dramas! If you were looking for name brand scopes in the future for a decent price but Aussie seller to avoid those exorbitant postage fees try Ozscopes, they're pretty friendly and have a great customer service rep.
    BTW what tripod is that? Looks stable enough and a hell of a lot more portable than my steel azimuth telescope tripod I was going to adapt to binos! +1

    I have just bought from Amazon Spain a pair of Celestron SkyMaster 15x70 binoculars and, although I have no remark about the external conditions of the binoculars, which were perfect, I am not as sure about its optical performance. Terrestrial observations seem reasonable, but I bought them for astronomical observing and I see stars not as point light sources (as, for instance, with a pair of 10x50 binoculars that I also have), but as little globes with a small lateral light shadow, like little comets. I tried to focus but I couldn't achive a better image. Should I complain to the supplier and exchange it for binoculars in better conditions? Or that is the optical performance just expected for a model with an affordable price?
