I've never failed to see the Galilean moons in any pair of binoculars that were 7x35 or bigger! I have an old pair of 8x50 Zeiss binos I love, as well as 8x56 and 7x50 glasses which I was fortunate enough to be able to use into my fifties (haven't tried them for a while), and my go-to 10x50's. And of course the 15x70 Skymasters you mention.

Good choice. I've been stargazing for a while through both binoculars and telescopes and in all honesty, I prefer binoculars most of the time. Easier to transport, set up, and operate. Sure, there's certain things you can't see, but I personally am not bothered by that

Thankyou for sharing this video. I didn't realize about the adjustment for each viewing side, other then the focuser. I have the celestron 15 x 70 bins on an orion tripod, and the set up seems good. I also have an 8" apertura dob, and celestron omni xlt 102 mm refractor. I find that the bins are just as good as my omni. The Dob is very heavy, but I get great views of the sky. Are there binoculars out there that exceed the ones I have for quality? I wish we had an astronomy club near us, but we do not, and I cannot find anyone interested in forming one so far. I appreciate all I can learn. kicking back in a hammock? ooooohhhhhh, yea!
a couple of years ago i joined an astronomy club in a large city.
it was well established and it had a storage unit of 'scopes you could rent for $5/month.
many were donated when a member upgraded. from beginner to medium experience.
      no binoculars, though.
still, i bought a pair of used nikon action 8x40 binoculars off ebay for US$50 + US$15 shipping.
the seller packed them very well.
i'm now moving up to 12x50. keep in mind the stronger the magnification and more weight, the harder it is to hold steady. get a tripod and adapter like the man says.
also look into binocular chairs (think aluminum lawn chair with a shelf to rest your arms on).
i have neck problems and am shopping around.

Thank you for this video. A few months ago I purchased Celestron 25x70 binoculars and unfortunately, I have a double image, when star gazing at night. When I test them in the daylight, they are fine. I can't figure out this problem (or is it my eyes!!)? So alas, when I use them at night, I keep one eye closed. On the positive side, I have seen Jupiter (including the 4 primary moons) and Saturn - both for the first time in my life!

    • @LateNightAstronomy

I'm glad you've enjoyed the channel. Astronomy is such an interesting hobby with a lot of ways to get started. The 10x50 you are looking at will work well for studying the constellations and Moon especially. You will be able to make out the 4 Galileo Moons of Jupiter but any surface details of that planet, Saturn or Mars won't come through on binoculars. I always suggest a solid 50 to 100 dollar pair of binoculars as a great starting point is astronomy. You can use them now and still use them later if you decide to more up to your first telescope. @@graou_paou Sorry for responding late. I didn’t get a notification.
I’ve since bought a telescope and yet, these binoculars are my go to for star clusters and occasionally the moon.
As for what I could see, Jupiter and its 4 Galilean moons were clear (but small), Saturn (looks like a hat) and the Orion nebula as a smudge, but a lovely one at that. I live in a heavily light polluted city and even from here, I could split Alberio, theta-Tauri and many other double stars quite easily. The pleiades , the Hyades, the Beehive and NGC2451 cluster in Puppis are a delight.I also scanned the winter triangle and could locate the clusters that make up the Rosetta nebula, the Fox Fur nebula etc within/around Monoceros. I once spent 45 minutes mapping the moon and I could clearly identify the many oceans, craters and even the ranges on occasion.
In short this is an amazing pair of binoculars with a great field of view and great optics that has kept me engaged. Even now I carry this along every night along with my scope and at times, spend more time with these. If you invest in a decent tripod, it will multiply the joy - the 15x70 is quite bulky
I am sure from a dark site, these binoculars would open up the skies a lot more.
      Clear skies!

@@LateNightAstronomy The adaptor that comes with the Skymasters is awful, and wobbles all over the place. It is ok to mount the bins with on a monopod, for casual viewing, but if you want to get the best out of them buy a metal adaptor, even an ebay five quid model will be better than the plastic rubbish that comes with it. There's lots on the astro forums about it- some fill the supplied bracket with epoxy to stiffen it. I bought the Celestron RSR bracket which is really sturdy, and on a dark night enjoy good views of deep space objects. I do use a professional camera tripod though, very sturdy and heavy mount. If you use a cheaper lightweight one be sure to hang weights off it, and steady the feet, without doing so it will be unuseable.

I'm thinking the extra magnification of the 25x70's would be better for viewing Saturn for example, but I hear such good things about the 15x70's. I'm also going to buy a metal tripod adapter, as I've heard the supplied plastic one isn't quite up to the task.
