You’re absolutely right. I can’t imagine the amount of energy it must take. You know when you see one eating a fish outside of its nest? I’ve read that they only do that when they’re absolutely drained of energy because they’ll hunt in 12-hour shifts if they need to.

hello..there is a gland, near the tail that provides oil, that the birds use to seal their feathers against the water..they use their beaks to disperse (they rub it on) it where needed..almost all of the water beads right off as the bird surfaces.. sometimes they hesitate briefly to launch..😉..love..

Great video Mark! I spent many hours seeking and observing Ospreys in Southern California Nature Preserves and Back bays. I watched an Osprey at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve dive and pull out a sea bass nearly twice its size, fly up to a tree top right above me, and feed for nearly 2 hours. I took over 100 shots of this incredible display of almost unbelievable action. The Osprey landed in the tree top about 50 feet above me and the tree maybe 15 feet away. My photos were the best and closest to any bird of prey I ever experienced. My heart pounded in my excitement and I used my monopod because I was shaking from this awesome experience. That was almost 20 years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. My hard drives still hold all my old wildlife photography adventures. Birds were my main subjects, especially birds of prey. Thanks for displaying your incredible work!

Absolutely amazing footage. Mark all of your videos are phenomenal. The way that bird takes a nose dive head. first. Then come out with that huge catfish. And then the music to go along with it. Better than national geographic in my opinion.
If you pay attention, the Osprey could not get airborne up and out of the water from the overweight of its catch, so the Osprey waited for an incoming wave and as the wave started to reach its position, the Osprey used the swell (LIFT) of the wave to assist its momentum upwards, so it could get airborne with its meal in tow. This means the Osprey knows enough about physics from riding up and down while flying on the winds, to transfer that knowledge to riding up on a wave to get out of the water when it as a larger fish in its claws. This is a sign of sentients. To be aware of one's situation, understand the need to change the situation and use one kind of knowledge with another kind of knowledge, then triangulate the reasoning to arrive at a solution and execute the solution in a timed manner to alter the outcome of the situation, thus resolving the threat. Wonderfully executed Risk / Threat management and using understanding of the physics of the air to perceive how the physics of the water might be the same. As a former diver and swimmer in the ocean, I know the waves are timed and some waves are smaller, but other waves are larger and if I wait for the right set of waives and get a large wave. I can then dive into a shallow area and reduce the threat of hitting the rocks or bottom. The Osprey displayed the same kind of understanding, because we see the first smaller wave the Osprey tried to use to get out of the water and airborne was not large enough, but the one coming in was taller and so it knew it could use that extra wave swell to have a better chance and to take it. The folks is True Knowledge, not Human Knowledge, but True Knowledge. Honeybees also use True Knowledge. Did you know the Honeybees that collect water for the hive must EARN that job? They make Jelly, Bread and the Honey Comb and Honey and regulate heat in the hive and also have a language t communicate time, distance and angle from the sun (a sun that changes locations from their perspective) to tell other bees how to get to sources of pollen, nectar and water from the hive location. True Knowledge

Вот она хищная птица, какая скорость нападения, точность, захват под водой, и взлет, при взлёте крылья конечно ещё мокрыеи взлетать удаётся с трудом, но пара раза размахнувшийся крылями ей уже легче подниматься. Сом с весом примерно 3кг для неё не так тяжелая.
