I always thought the Nightglow was really underrated. It's consistent, it has high damage, it decimates crowds and most enemies in one or two shots, it does good damage against bosses, and it looks cool. I feel like the only reason people don't use it as much as they should is because Razorblade Typhoon is technically available at the start of hardmode, while Empress is post-Plantera and (arguably) harder than Duke, so people tend to overlook Nightglow.
Gonna be honest, I really struggle with Empress. Duke is significantly easier IMHO because its attack patterns are a bit simpler and it isn’t so much of a bullet hell.
@@JordanMetroidManiac well empress is easy if you just run on concrete, you dodge everything and even have the chance to turn around when she dashes. In the second phase you occasionally have to jump in order to get no damage at day time but at night she is easy af
Personally, I find Duke Fishron rather difficult and not as rewarding as Empress (after having to farm both of them for trophies on Zenith seed). Duke is a high-damage, fast creature that, for me, is difficult to deal with using my normal setup, whereas I can somewhat tank most of Empress's attacks with my usual arena and setup. The only high-damage attack she does is the dash. Although I'm not sure about daytime EoL.
As a person who always go for Duke pre mechs, i still take the Nightglow for single target situation even though i already had the Razorblade. Its dps is just way better at single target than the Razorblade, but worse aoe performance.
I think there’s a very simple reason why nobody uses this weapon, and that’s that most of the time you fight empress of light right before pillars, at which point the stuff that empress drops are most of the time obsolete compared to whatever the pillars give you (or at least most players just would rather use what the pillars give you) so realistically you’re only really using this weapons to fight lunatic cultist (who many people consider one of the easier bosses in the game) and probably just one pillar. All of that combined makes it so that no one really sees the value of going out of their way to get this, and because of that few people actually use it.
I mean me personally I fight empress right after plantera, but even still, the weapon is gained way too late into the game and there are better options.
this sums it up. she’s not really easier than cultist, and the reward for beating cultist (pillar gear) is just so good that i don’t really know when you’re supposed to fight her. only the terraprisma really outcompetes it’s equivalent pillar weapons but if you’re going for that then difficulty likely isn’t an issue i suppose.
If you have a character named Serenity, the night glow changes between a pale pink and white light, As well as the last prism. I discovered that when I made a Sailor Moon based character.

I know you usually do weapons, but have you ever considered doing armor sets like the Forbidden Set? It’s one of my favorites because of its unique set bonus, but nobody seems to know about it.
I love Forbidden Armor. You can be mage, but with the summon boosts you can have minions that actually do stuff as well! Also, coolest looking in the game imo.
It is, but premech, it's really hard to get, even post much sometimes, as sand elemental only spawn in sandstorm with high wind speed dependent on luck
I have played terraria for years and I was doing a master mode run with my friend, got the core I forgot what it was called from the desert elemental and took it to the guide, made the armor. It's gotta be one of the coolest armor sets along with the stardust armor and chlorophyte armor
This thing isn't really a spirit flame upgrade so much as it is the mage equivalent of a xenopopper with chlorophyte bullets. Only major difference is its ability to pierce.
The Nightglow is actually among my favorite mage weapons, so seeing you review this is just amazing! Though the high mana cost can be quite the killer sometimes
To be honest, I did used this to beat the Cultist, since it has a homing projectile that chase enemies and I think this is the fastest to react, and also yess, this is very good for events as well! overall it is a good weapon up until to end-game although its DPS isn't suitable for Moonlord no longer....

It's definitely a good weapon, but it suffers from post-Plantera progression curve, meaning you either skip Empress entirely or fight her after Moon Lord, which defeats the purpose of it's existence. Out of all homing projectile mage weapons I'd put it somewhere behind the Stellar Tune or Nebula Blaze, as Tune can shoot through blocks a lot faster and is better for single target, while Blaze has crazy high crit chance and damage multiplier.

As soon as this weapon got introduced, I immediately fell in love with it. It might not be as powerful as Last Prism, but boy is it 10x as flashy. Nightglow is and always will be my ultimate favourite Terraria weapon of them all.
Ngl. I'v always found this weapon to be proven so effective until Moonlord. It's homing capabilities when going high-speeds while fighting a quick boss like Moonlord(always sticks to you) or EoL helps so much that i can focus on dodging. Yes the Razorblade Typhoon is a better option and is also usually overshadowed by the progression, but it's still a very solid pick for such a unique weapon. Highly recommend.
Its Pretty Underrated When Your Playing Offline But On Dark Gaming That's Pretty Popular And Everybody Fights Over It Lol They Even Trade Terrablade for Nightglow lol
Honestly thought hr was talking about the prismatic rod, which in my opinion is easy to get, needed for an achievement and is actually really good when I used it in 1.3
Most of the Empress weapons are roughly equal to Duke Fishron’s, just having different purposes, (Ignoring the Stellar Tune being more powerful than the pillar weapons, like Aerial bane and Betsy’s Wrath... I’m seeing a pattern with Betsy’s stuff) It’s roughly Eventide-Tsunami Razorblade Typhoon-Nightglow Starlight-Flairon Bubble gun-Stellar Tune In terms of damage and performance it’s different, as an example, Starlight-Bubble Gun
I found the night glow to have slightly lower dps than than the razor blade typhoon, which already has the advantage of dropping from a much earlier boss. The only exception seemed to be when using the Spectre armour, specifically with the mask rather than the hood. At the time you fight empress this armour will be available to you (and honestly you should have it anyway if using magic) and it’s set bonus makes the night glow easily outdps the razor blade typhoon, along with most other weapons until pillars.
I love the Nightglow! I use it as a handheld light whenever i'm starting a new character, and as a secondary weapon. My only pet peeve with it is just how long it takes for the lights to home into targets.
I think the last prism needs a design overhaul. Sure it makes sense that a prism would “shoot” rainbows or whatever, but the way it does that could be made more interesting and slightly less difficult to handle in a battle. Maybe it could even incorporate moonlike elements to it so as to resemble the Moon Lord just as Nightglow resembles the Empress of Light.
Get rid of the 1/4th of a second delay before the projectiles seek enemies. Increase the projectile speed. Drop the cost down to around the 12 mana range. Change it to average knockback. Then it would get more use.
I think that part of the reason that it's so underrated is that it has a lot of overlap in functionality with the Razorblade Typhoon with its homing and piercing capabilities. As a result, people tend to stick with the Razorblade Typhoon which is already well-known for being very powerful instead of trying to figure out the pros and cons of each.
On the topic of spirit flame, I recently started a master mode world with a friend. while he was offline I decided to test how good I truly am at terraria, I ended up beating pre-plantera duke fishron with spirit flame and hallowed armor. Ended up getting bubble gun first try which then allowed me to fight him a few more times alot more easily and I ended up getting the razorblade for myself and tsunami for him. made life alot easier
Looking at the stats. Nightglow has the same amount of damage as rainbow rod, same pierce count, and same mana use per shot. Both of them has rainbow theme. Still, Nightglow's projectile can't be controlled, can't explode, and can't last as long.
Nightglow is my favorite magic weapon glad to see you cover this OP underrated weapon, its basically a multishot rainbow rod minus the constant clicking and the follow mouse that is worse than its homing.
When I first got the nightglow, I didn't think to test it around enemies, so I was very underwhelmed by its short range and lifespan. I didn't even know the spirit flame _existed_ at this point.
I absolutely love this weapon, and I use it every time I play Mage. It's one of my favorite mage weapons because of how fun it is, and how powerful it is.
This weapon’s seriously underrated imo. The Empress isn’t that hard once you learn her patterns or have friends to play with, and I was able to beat daytime empress twice using this weapon on my first mage playthrough
good to see you got your sponser however due to the nature of the video and its length it would be significantly better if you put it at the start or the end instead of the middle
This weapon is a must have for all my magic playthroughs, direct upgrade to my rainbow rod it's SO crazy it wipes the pillars low-key this weapon and the razorblade typhoon are my go tos for pillars until I get nebula weapons
I've seen the Nightglow be used quite a lot if I'm being honest. That high DPS is definitely something. Only downside is the projectile startup. It can kinda kill the weapon because the projectiles actually take a while to go home in on enemies

It's one of my favorite mage weapons because of how fun it is, and how powerful it is.
i feel the nightglow more of an upgrade to the rainbow rod, piercing and all that, just more projectiles that heatseek instead of one controllable one
babe wake up sockrteez uploaded another video
This weapon is what I firstly aimed for this hardmode! I love this weapon a lot especially that I am a mage guy.
And at the same time it works like a torch by emitting light when you hold it!
Bruh he gained 400 subs after 2 hours that’s insane
I haven't watched you in so long and I come back to your channel and so many memories hit me
This weapon’s seriously underrated imo. The Empress isn’t that hard once you learn her patterns or have friends to play with, and I was able to beat daytime empress twice using this weapon on my first mage playthrough
Even your refrigerator
This is probably my favorite magic weapon. It carried me against moonlord in my first 1.4 expert playthrough.
good to see you got your sponser however due to the nature of the video and its length it would be significantly better if you put it at the start or the end instead of the middle
This weapon is a must have for all my magic playthroughs, direct upgrade to my rainbow rod it's SO crazy it wipes the pillars low-key this weapon and the razorblade typhoon are my go tos for pillars until I get nebula weapons
you truly deserve 100k subs. if not more.
Would it be possible if you did a video on the Tempest staff? I was really curious on how good it is now since it’s ai changes and buffs.
its kind of like the xenopopper but mage
I've seen the Nightglow be used quite a lot if I'm being honest. That high DPS is definitely something.
Only downside is the projectile startup. It can kinda kill the weapon because the projectiles actually take a while to go home in on enemies
that transition to the ad damn im amazed and im happy you got sponsored keep up the good work
Yess, Finally talking about this weapon. This thing carried me to post moon-lord
I use it for events and such, but once I get that Last Prism, I just can’t say no to a big ass laser
the nightglow is amazing, i have it on all of my mage worlds, its the best for crowd control
I loved using the nightglow and spirit flame ever since they came out, eye candy.
